I am profoundly sea sick on small vehicles and very suggestable around nausea in general. I had a patch but was hesitant to use it because of side-effects I had heard about. I used the bonine tablets supplied on the ship (and I bought some at the airport as they aren't available in Canada). They worked great. I found that I was only a little nauseous on the first night, but after that was absolutely fine, even with the ship rocking and rolling.

Must see if we can get Bonine in Oz, My naturopath said she'll make me a concoction, but they can be scarier than getting sick! Sometimes you just need the heavy duty stuff, I'll check out the chemist.:thumbsup2
Also will see the doc before we leave so might even grab some prescription stuff just in case it's bad. :thumbsup2

For all that travels west Good Morning . It a Big day for me. for I am being introduce to a piece of modern machinery, the wife sewing machine. I have accomplished the mandatory body parts inventory, all fingers -check, no holes in fingers-check.beer in refrigerator-check.:confused3

Wish me luck and a good after project inventory. For I am working on the FE.:woohoo:

Good Luck! They're not nearly as scary as they sound, :rotfl:

In October 2007 we followed a TS down to St. Thomas and followed a hurricane back up to Castaway, which became Nassau on the Magic. I tried the green apple and ginger-ale, remedy and I did o.k. I was wobbly but not sick.

Goofy's always has green apples. If Goofy's is closed but the topsider is open for dinner just ask the host at the stand if you can have a couple of green apples from over at Goofy's. They were very eager to assist when I asked.

Pj

I have tried the ginger-ale before, which is ok for a little nausea. I haven't tried the green apples, but will remember that one, anythings worth a try! :)

Ginger tabs work great! I bought them for Hadley when they were going on the cruise here in the states. She swears by them. I know the patch has made my dad act "weird" and out-of-it on the cruise.

When he had bad weather during the TA in '07, I was actually on deck, all bundled up reading. It is quiet, nobody on deck, you have the run of everything, but it is raining. The worst place to be is in your room - makes you more sick. Get out, be with people, even if it is the Promenade Lounge. Laughing sometimes is the best medicine.

I love the idea of grabbing a chair on deck, the loungers on deck 4 are my favorite for keeping the wobblies away. Seeing the horizon is the big trick, if your mind knows the body is going to be going up and down, it does better.

Pj

I just went and bought some Bonine. My DD was driving, so I was able to check it out. Stopped the nausea pretty quick. I'll be bringing a box or two.

I get sea sick, air sick, car sick. Motion bothers me. The last time I cruised during September I vowed to stop celebrating my birthdays with a cruise.

During that hurricane (I think it was Erika, but won't swear to it) I sat on the deck wrapped up in a blanket and watched the horizon and the waiters brought me a drink everytime they saw my glass was empty. I was actually okay. Dinner was fun. The boat was at an angle (Celebrity) and we had to keep catching our drinks. After dinner, I went to my room, put on my pjs, and brought up my pillow. I was going to sleep there on deck. About 2:00am they made me go inside. :sad2::sad2:

Since that cruise, I've been cruising April, May and December. They have all been really calm cruises. Now they say this is going to be the worse hurricane seaon in decades. YAY me.:rolleyes:

I'm bringing Dramimene, Bonine, sea bands, ginger tabs and the patch. My cabin is pretty much midship. And I have a balcony, so I'll have air and can watch the horizon from my bed if necesary.

Two questions. One.. if the waves are 30 foot, do they allow you to go out on your balcony? Would YOU go out on your balcony? Is the balcony safe?

Two.. can anyone give me any other items I should bring to help me?

We call each other our "TWIN" but I am glad I do not get sick. Of course who knows how this Vertigo will affect me on the cruise. :confused3:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

The Bonine contains Meclizine just like what I took for the Vertigo and it sure made me drowsy but I will take that over being sick. I got a sea band too. I have heard too many people having adverse reactions to the patch so that is one thing I will just never use. The worse is double vision and I could just see me trying to navigate with that problem and bringing back the Vertigo!!!:rotfl:

I think that with high waves, I will keep the balcony door closed and watch from inside!!!:lmao: Don't want to lose you

We were on the last Disney Mexican Riviera cruise when the seas were really rough. It gets pretty wet on the balcony, so sleeping outside may be a bit chilly and wet.

I get terribly seasick and used to avoid cruises for that reason. Dramamine, Bonine and Scopolomine patches only worked a little for me. I still felt a little ill and was probably the only person onboard who lost weight on a cruise. A few years ago I bought the Relief Band from Sharper Image. Magellans and several other companies carry it too. It puts out a small electrical pulse every few minutes which works in a similar way as accupressure. Anyway it works. Hopefully it will work as well on the Transatlantic, especially now with a strong hurricane season being predicted.

Thought I would post a picture of Peter (the groom) and I at his wedding this afternoon. They had a BEAUTIFUL day for their outdoor wedding on the edge of the golf greens at a local country club. There was a time that no one would have been surprised if we got married, but there's no doubt his bride Christen and him were meant to be!

Sadly, I was so busy doing the video during the ceremony and video messages from guest during the reception that I have only one almost good picture of them together from the cake cutting, so I need to get my hands on a good picture of them together! I'm very happy for the couple in love! :lovestruc He's grown so much in so many ways that he is truly deserving to be so blessed! She's a gem!

Wow, after today’s posts I had no idea of the Patches adverse reactions. I have good luck with them. I think we will bring some of the mentioned backup.

On my first cruise, The Sept 18, 2005 Wonder cruise. We had to deal with hurricane Rita. We had over thirty foot waves. I did not know if they let you on the balcony, but they left you out on deck 4. You did get hit by water spray. On deck 3 the port holes wound some time be underwater. The ship was definitely rocking and rolling. At that time we were told that it was the worst sea conditions that the Wonder has ever seen. Even with those horrible sea conditions i keep coming back

As far as entertainment...I'm not expecting anyone or anything great...HOWEVER...

After the Glee concert today, I'm hoping the entire cast is on board and doing the entertainment!!!

I know, I know...it's not going to happen, but I can still dream, right?!

Anyway, I'm really tired from the day in NYC. It was a very nice day though and the concert was wonderful. We weren't close to the stage, but we did have great seats. I took some pictures and video, but here is a link to another disboards member who was also at the same concert but had much better seats than what we did.

We're gonna have some problems seeing the horizon from our cat 10 inside room, lol! I'll be the one that's a ghastly shade of green, hanging out on deck.:rotfl:

Dieing to hear all about it, Sounds like you had a great day. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 It must be a stunning area Angie.

I hope Dennis is ok too.

Yes, he is fine. It was truly a very routine appt. :thumbsup2

Sounds lovely. There are so many places in N.America we have yet to visit but will one day. I'm super-excited to visit Montana in those travels.

Oh, yes, please come visit us! Western MT is beautiful, the plains over in the east not so much....at least in our opinion! :rotfl: Today we took another ride up by Helena and went far up into a canyon. Dennis, DSIL, DS and DGD did a little gold panning....not much gold found but they had fun. DD and I watched and enjoyed the beautiful scenery yet again. :lovestruc

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that hasn't managed to make it to the (adult) pool yet..... LOL

I never made it to the pool or the hot-tub ..... definitely both are on my "to do" list this time around. I don't even know why I never made it there ... just too busy doing everything else.

OK I just made this and have to say the mascapone filling tastes so so yummy! Used 30% less fat mascapone mind!

I have never seen low fat mascarpone .... where did you find that?

OK so trying to reply quickly as on my way out.

Kimberley - you look lovely! Congrats to Peter and his bride.

How did you not make it to the hot tub?????????

As for low fat mascarpone - Tesco online had it listed. Its slightly less creamy than full fat but still yummy! 30% less fat is better than nothing!

Today we in the States are celebrating Memorial Day. It's a day set aside to honor those that serve now, those that have served in the past and those that have given the ultimate sacrifice which allows me to live the free life that I live and gives me the opportunity to talk with all you wonderful people.

So for those no longer with us, for those that have served in the past and for those presently serving, one big

THANK YOU :thumbsup2

It parks like a dream. and it's got a mickey decal on the back so if you see me wizzing by you'll know it's me!

I'll keep a look out!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the warm welcome! We're also traveling with a couple from Michigan who are also doing the B2B with us (we are doing the AbD add-on on the Sep 8th Med). The 6 of us are:
Pam (me)
Gary (DH)
Chris (sister)
Dave (DBIL)
Joyce (our Michigan friend)
Gary (Joyce's DH)

I'll add us to the roster. It seemed like this cruise was a long time coming, but it won't be long now. We're actually traveling cross country in an RV so internet is spotty, but will be more active when we get home.

Hello to all of you!:dance3:

Here's a scary thought:

1. No room reservation yet for DH and I
2. No pick-up from Barcelona airport
3. No arrangements for getting to the dock on embarkation day
4. AND.....no airfare yet.

However, I know that I'm planning on getting in on the 16th and resting. Am I :scared1:?

Naw!

Rooms are plenty - slow season in Sept

Airport pick-up can be arranged online and we can be dropped off at our
arranged place of lodging.

As for the getting to the dock, its SOOOOO simple, just hail a taxi and tell him take me to Mickey ship! They knew exactly where to go. That is what we did on the morning of sailing - it was a party of 3 and we did end up using 2 cars but heck - it was an adventure and supereasy. Ergo, I'm not panicing yet.

Airfare? Probably going to get my fare in June. As some of you may know - we are sorta a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kinda gal. (makes for some pretty interesting tales I tell you) :rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

wish I was that laid back!:rotfl2: I'm sure you'll get it all booked up fine :thumbsup2

I'm so glad I have this cruise booked. I have to cancel our December sailing. DD got accepted to her first choice university (she'd been accepted to second choice long ago). However, her finals week and our December cruise conflict, so......I could go alone on that one too, but I don't think that would make for happy family.

Many congratulations to your dd!:woohoo: It;'s wonderful when our kids do well isn't it?!:)

Now an update on my arm. My arm is swelling up a lot and having some pain. I was at the physical therapist on Friday and she said my arm is getting worst. She made my a custom made split so a can not rotate my arm over. She also give me a list of orthopedic surgeons in the area and said start doing my research. This is not looking good. I'm still hoping for good news on Thursday after my MRI.

Stephen

Sounds horrid Stephen, best wishes to you x

AMEN to the pools! I never have made it to the pool to take a dip or hang out! THAT is something I'm very much looking forward to doing!

Opposite of dh and I....we hang out by/in the pool (or hot tub) for most of the time as long as the weather is fine!:woohoo:

Our DD and her family are visiting from Oregon for a few days. We took a trip up to Glacier National Park today. It is a 3 hr drive due north of us. It is beautiful! But we were only able to drive 14 miles into Thursday Dennis and I drove to Helena, MT which is 2.5 hours northeast of us. (he had an appt at the VA hospital over there) That drive was amazing also. We live in such a beautiful area. :cloud9: Today I said a prayer of thanks, while looking across McDonald Lake, that I was given this Montana man in my life who would bring me here to live.

Sounds like such a beautiful area Angie.

OK I just made this and have to say the mascapone filling tastes so so yummy! Used 30% less fat mascapone mind!

Glad you liked it Sarah!:)

Thanks, and to those in the US, enjoy the long weekend!
Sue

we have a long weekend here in the UK too, though not for Memorial Day :)

Since I just read some yummy posts again about the funnel cakes and all the fattening wonderful things in life. My DH took me to Denny's today because I was still sad about this doctor thing. We ordered chocolate chip pancake dippers. It was little bits of chocolate chip pancakes, fried and served with powdered sugar and syrup! Heavenly! Has anyone had one? I thought of funnel cakes the minute it touched my mouth - unfortunately I did not do the rules from yesterday - spitting it out was NOT an option. Delicious!

mmmmmmmmm.....sounds yummy (and bad!):thumbsup2
