OK, Question......Does anyone have any Barcelona transfer / taxi company's to recommend. I was looking at booking online with gospainairport.com. Anyone heard of them? TIA

We looked into booking ahead, and then started to lean towards a cab. I would rather have it reserved so we are met with a sign - especially as there are 2 adults, 2 most likely tired and grumpy kids, 8 suitcases, 2 backpacks... I did write to one company - Barcelona Taxi Van, and we were quoted 50 Euro for "This is a closed price which includes taxes, luggage and air conditioned van vehicle". I don't know if that is good or not... Anyone??

Thanks, been busy, and anytime I go to log in the dis boards wont load:confused3

Lynn I was wondering where you were as well. Hope that you are able to get back online soon!

I know, it is a bit of a worry, but I am so glad I have my dis family.

WE looked at lots of diff companys and read lots of mixed views and in the end decided on getting taxi.

Dis has been loading sooooooooo slowly lately, and sometimes won't load at all, very annoying!
Are you just going to grab a taxi at the airport?

50 euro sound ok I think, i was getting a few quotes last night around 60, so 50 is good.
The cheapest was gospainairport.com, it was 90 euro for airport to hotel AND hotel to port.
Just have no idea who is reliable?

So the place I had gotten our quote is what I found on DIS. There were a couple of companies - but this one had pretty good reviews.

I think I have convinced Glenn that we should prebook it...

Do you prepay for the transfer on this site? Does it includes charges for suitcases?

We are looking at Barcelona Taxi Van (http://barcelonataxivan.com/)

I requested a quote for 4 people, 8 suitcases from BCN to Praktik Ramblas.

This is what we have received:

Hello
Thank you for contacting BARCELONA TAXI VAN
Price for requested service is Euro 50. This is a closed price which includes taxes, luggage and air conditioned van vehicle.
So, I think it is a matter of making the actual reservation, and then adding on a tip.

I have read that 3-5% is customary for tipping the driver. Not sure if that is right...

Printed some of our magnets today!!! Somehow this makes it feel more real...

If I didn't need any of my clothes that I was bringing, I would pack now...

Thanks, Sue, I'll have a look. I agree, prebook, don't want to be standing around lost and confused and have a bag stolen or be pick pocketed!

It's the first day of winter here today, so I'm all clear to start packing summer stuff. Actually did a spot of cruise shopping, ok, lot's of shopping this morning. :rolleyes1

Thanks for the info. I sent them an email as I want a transfer from our airport hotel to the Le Meridien on Friday. John said it is very confusing about how to tip in Barcelona. For example, in a restaurant there is no place for a tip on the credit card receipt as there is in America. When he took a taxi, he said he usually gave a 10% tip but was not sure if that was correct either.

If therre is anyone that has not been placed in a FE grup, that wants to participate - please PM me ASAP!! I am trying to get the coconut group filled out, and need to make sure that no one was missed.

Thanks!!

Sue - I am laughing! You are just like me - I would be packing too!! DH leaves on Thursday and DD and I are going to have 3 days of nothing but CRUISE!!!! My FE I just posted on the sight, but the picture is sooo small. I think I am in the coconut group, but it doesn't matter right now till we get the final tallys! Everybody have a great night. I am going to sleep, although I am not tired.

LOL - glad to know I am not alone... Oh - you are in the Pmoegranate group, you are not a coconut... :rotfl2:

Today was a trip to Bass Creek. A bit of fishing with DSIL, DGD and DS. Dennis and I caught the same fish! Yep, my hook he swallowed and Den's was in his mouth! I knew we were doing everything together now, but that is just ridiculous!! LOL Another fun day in a beautiful place. Today's trip was very close to home though - within 20 miles. The last 2 days were trips of at least 2.5 hrs one way. Our DD stayed at our house today writing a paper for a class she is taking. She and her family will be returning to OR tomorrow morning. We will miss them.

DH and I are starting to plan how much currency and stuff we need to bring on this trip. In Barcelona, how much (approximately) is a:

-coffee
-bottle of water
-a sandwich
-a simple meal (table service, cafe)
-a family-style restaurant dinner
-a nice dinner (like where you would go on a date)
-fruit from vendors/markets?

About how much are museum tickets? Bus tickets?

Is VISA well accepted in Barcelona? How about Mastercard? Do most restaurants take credit card?

And-

Do you carry your passport with you in places like Barcelona in a safe spot, or the hotel safe or room safe? What about extra cash?

What are the toilets like in Barcelona? How do children find them? Are there places to change diapers? Are umbrella strollers easy to use in Barcelona?

Sorry to sound so naive. I haven't been to Spain before. I feel comfortable protecting our belongings - I just have some questions about things that will help me plan and frame our trip better. I am a planner.

Just wanted to say- thanks for asking those questions! Except the ones about kiddos, we have the same questions.

I ordered a PacSafe bag a few minutes ago after reading some reviews about them. I ordered the smaller messenger bag from Overstock.com and with shipping it was less than $30. There were only three left at that price. I'm going to use it and if I like it, we will order Amanda one too. I know this sounds paranoid but I keep reading about all the issues that people are having with pick pockets and such and it is making me nervous. I don't know why, I've been to big touristy places (Paris, New York, Miami) without issues.

I found it best to use cash in Spain.

On the EBTA, we had a day in Barcelona before disembarkation. We went to a department store and I tried to use a VISA. They would not accept it without a passport, which was in our cabin safe.

I was wondering this too! Glad you asked!

How did you not make it to the hot tub?????????

Don't know really ..... we just seemed to be really busy all the time doing stuff.

The sun seems to have gone all shy and hidden itself today :confused3 We have a Bank Holiday here in the UK too, so poor weather is the norm!:rolleyes1

I worked most of the bank holiday weekend and now I have a couple of days off it's typically raining

We saw Phantom of the Opera last night at the Wharton Center. For those who know Michigan, that is where all the large traveling productions are done. We are getting Mary Poppins in December and I want to see it. I don't get what all the hype around Phantom is though. I thought it was boring and too long. The second act was much better than the first. Lion King still wins out as my favorite "Broadway" production that has come to our town.

I have seen Phantom once and absolutely loved it .... DD is hoping to see Love Never Dies this year.

I just heard from some friends of mine that arrived in Barcelona this morning.....they are going on the Repositioning cruise this weekend from Barcelona to Dover and are part of our "DIS" family.....anyway when they got off the Aerobus they were distracted for a brief second and had a small carry on bag stolen while at the Plaza Cataluna. They wanted everyone to be aware of your surroundings and keep your eyes open. Luckily they did not have a passport or wallet stolen so it could have been much worse.

Now this is really scary ..... we will have to keep a close eye on everything when transferring in Barcelona :scared1::scared1:

Oh I forgot to mention, the sea-sickness pills that the Magic/Wonder have work wonders also. I know they are rather "generic" but they seem to work well.

I used these on a couple of occasions last cruise when I felt a bit wobbly and they worked well. I think I may get a pressure band this time after seeing those waves :scared1:

Hi Everyone,

I have been away from the boards, but am looking forward to the WBTA.

We were on the EBTA and are continuing with our travels in Europe.

I don't mean to scare anyone. Just use common sense and be aware of your surroundings.

Hi Woody, great to hear from you. Glad that you're having a wonderful time but sorry to hear about all the criminal activity. I don't think I will be carrying much around with me in Barcelona.
