So there's a thread (I've actually seen a couple) and apparently it will be sporadic.

One of the moderators posted the following:
"Search function will be up and down while server maintenance is down.
If you go under thread tools you will see an option to either receive or not receive emails when someone replies to a thread you are posting/subscribing to."

Thanks MagicMe for the update. Very helpful! :thumbsup2

I don't do well on planes! LOL! I'm going to ask my doctor to prescribe enough medicine to cover all 8+ hours! LOL!

I'm with you there! I used to love to fly. Now I get a little nervous. My journey to Barcelona will be a total of about 13 hours (two legs) and I can't sleep on planes. I will need pills...happy happy pills! :rotfl:

For all that travels West.
Today is one small step for man and one large step for TA2.

Flights are booked and hotel reservations confirmed....
TA2

Congrats TA2! I know how excited you are. Ever since booking my flight and hotel I have been on 11. (Spinal Tap reference - Most amps go to 10 but ours goes to 11.) :rotfl: :rotfl2:

We don't know how DrHug is going to sleep either. He uses a cpap and has not been able to sleep on planes for years. We have only flown across the US though. We have an 11 hour overnight flight to Zurich then to Barcelona. We may just have to plan on him napping for a few hours that first day and then spending Friday only seeing what we can see. Pills for Thursday night to get us both to sleep early after a noontime nap.

On the hotel, I looked into the Praktik last night. Online it would be $692 US dollars for the two of us for two nights....the Holiday Inn Express is $250 US dollars for the same two nights. I can't justify that no matter how I look at it. That's a lot of drink of the day and spa money once we get on the ship! :rolleyes1 We will keep our HIE room and visit you all at the Praktik!

That seems expensive for the Praktik Angie, we aren't paying that amount for 4 nights. However, it is certainly more than the Holiday Inn Express.

Mrs. Mork - I agree with granmaz - I think that seems expensive, too. But I do think two nights will cost more than HIE. Plus, I'm with you on the money for the drink of the day and the spa - the more money to spend on them the merrier I will be. ;)

Seemed alot to me also. :confused3 Maybe they hiked the prices on the few remaining rooms. Anyway, we can meet up wherever with the DIS crowd :woohoo: and sleep wherever.

(I haven't yet cancelled the HIEx - I am just so overawed and stressed about all the plans and what to do!!!. Haven't even gone on our next vacation yet - just 13 days away)

Angie, i couldn't resist checking.

2 nights at the Praktik Rambla is 278.20 euros, or approx $391.91.(via one converter so others vary) Still more than the HIEX, but more realistic than what you quoted.

My quote for the 2 nights in a double, 2 adults was 492 euros.:confused3 Maybe they have heard about us and don't want us there!!:rotfl::rotfl2:

I dont really sleep all that much either, Lens better than me.Thats too much for 2 nights!?

Makes sense, supply and demand.

Today, after reading the thread Len says, who have we invited for drinks in Barcalona? hee hee:cool1: Everybody!! Lets get this Party started

I went back to the Praktik site and now the amount for TWO nights (Thurs and Fri) is 149.80 euro for BOTH nights total including taxes. I booked it. It is less than the HIE by about 35 euros. I don't understand, but I grabbed it. So, two more in a standard double.

So...is that 14 people, 8 rooms? :confused3 I don't think Marilyn and TA2 are in that count???

PJ, do a look see and find out what a single is for you.

I think Marilyn was thinking about an apartment

same here:thumbsup2
Have you got something else booked?

I am still floating around the apartment idea. After the cruise I should be booking DVC for a couple of weeks, then about 3 nights in Miami before returning home. We had to fly from Miami to get the reward flight so thought we would have a look around.

Angie, I'm wondering if that is too cheap for the Praktik Rambla. Are you sure you didn't book the Praktik Barcelona, their new what they call budget hotel about 6 blocks or so away? I managed to have the rate come up for there somehow too and was confused. However, it looks a good little hotel and I did wonder about staying there to be honest as it isn't far away. Just check though.

Um...now I see that I am confused....again. There appears to be two Praktik hotels about 4 blocks apart. The Rambla and the Barcelona. Rambla is about 100euro more for the 2 nights than the Barcelona, which is where I booked (not knowing there were two of them!). Does anyone have info as to the difference, other than location and of course a DIS contingent staying there? The photos on both sites look pretty much the same. :confused3

Yes, exactly. I think this will be good for us though. Less than the HEI and we won't have to pay transportation to get to the DIS. We will just hang onto our wallets ;) and walk the few blocks for a meet.

So, for whomever is trying to get a count of those staying at the Rambla...not us.

MrsMork - I, too, booked at the Praktik Barcelona (PB) first but switched the very next day. I did some checking and in addition to cost, the Praktik Rambla (PR) seems to offer more services. For example, the PR offers a safe whereas the PB only offers a locker where you can lock stuff up while you are out of your room; the PR has a restaurant but the PB only has vending machines; etc. I think the PB is more like a hostel and the PR is more like a hotel. Also, TripAdvisor rates the PR as #26/579 and the PB as #257/579.

So....I think we can just walk down and meet you in the restaurant. :thumbsup2 We have no jewelry or valuables to take other than camera, credit card and passports which we will have with us, tucked safely under my shirt :) when we leave the hotel. Well, DrHug's big camera will not be under my shirt, that would look too weird! :lmao:

We can meet halfway! I'll look for the big camera over, not under, the shirt. :rotfl:
