I can't afford to buy huckleberry pie. :sad2: They are not easy to find, and they are small so it takes alot to make a pie, so they cost about $20! :scared1: We will be off again in a bit and hopefully will have better luck today. :goodvibes
And if we run into any bears we will gladly let them have the berries, we will not tangle with a griz!

I wish Walmart had huckleberry pie! However, no store bought pie is quite as good as the fresh picked, homemade berry kind.

I am looking forward to meeting you also!!

This is funny - as I remember my DH and I paid a guide to FIND us bear!!! LOL He did... he also found ALL the animals on my list I wanted to see... it was a great trip - ENJOY!

I think huckleberries are like our bilberries.

We used to go bilberry picking up on our local moorland every summertime when I was a child until I left home, and then again when we were young marrieds and had bilberries on the moorland behind our house. You need hundreds for a nice pie. I remember the taste even now. Blueberries don't taste anything like bilberries.

I can say I've never had one - but I bet they are good and I bet that pie will be delicious! If you bake it, we will come...

I never knew there was such a thing as a Huckleberry - what does it look like?
Hope you manage to find some without encountering any bears!

See Marilyn's post.

We have friends that live in the mountains in Los Angeles County and they have all kinds of interesting wildlife in their garden. The gophers are rather cute, but our friends do not share my love for them :rotfl:

Corinna

Gophers are awful! We had them in OR and our "lawn" was one dirt hill after another! Ugh!

Yep, they look that that only smaller. Some years they are about the size of your thumb nail, but this year they are very small and not too many of them. We picked for 2 hrs and got 4 cups. Enough for a pie, but no jam. :sad2:

Ok, I'm baking it tonight come on up! :thumbsup2;)

Sounds wonderful - hope you enjoyed it after all of your efforts and risking your lives with bears! I don't want to be photo obsessed but it would be great to see a photo of that pie!

That would be great Ann - I think I am definitely photo obsessed!

I remember them being very small, more small finger nail size, and they taste wonderful. We used to take jam jars to collect in, and it was a disaster when after what seemed like hours of picking, and it was full, you knocked it over!!!:scared1:

I cut the top out of a milk jug so I would have a handle and I almost did spill it once. :rolleyes1 That would not be fun!

So it seems next time we are in AZ I will need to bake an apple pie. :drive::stir:
You are welcome anytime! Would love to make lasagne for you - it's my specialty... and we could slice that pie for dessert!:worship:

First of all, thanks for all of the "welcomes'! :thumbsup2

Secondly, count me as one jealous of me - it is now 12:41AM on Saturday and we are steaming for PC, just hours away from the END of our most awesome cruise yet!

*Sigh*, it really was a great cruise - the ship's crew was awesome, the excursions were exciting (4 elements, eco-jet ski on CC), the kids had a BLAST at the clubs, we met up with a great couple from our LAST cruise, and we met some great DISers!

Again, *sigh*, but we will soon start planning for our first TA crossing! Like how much is it going to cost to fly California to Barcelona...:headache:
