1. We love the sea days - but suspect that DW is keen to get to St.Maarten for the Tiffany shop there.

2. We host Christmas for the family. This year it'll be the three of us, plus my parents, brother and his wife. Mulled wine for when everyone arrives, then a full Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, after which we open the presents. Things usually degrade then into people snoozing on the sofa whilst new video games are played and chocolates are eaten, interspersed with trips to the kitchen to nibble on leftovers and top up glasses. On Boxing Day the family tradition is to go to a pantomime - usually in London or Birmingham. Silly hats are worn, and there is much booing and hissing at villains, cheering of heroes, and shouting of "he's behind you!" and "oh no you didn't!". Funny how it takes 6 adults to accompany 1 child (actually 15 year old now) on this trip to the theatre lol.
My ears just pricked up.....there's a Tiffany in St Maarten, and it's tax free shopping right? Cheap Tiffany, ok.....less expensive Tiffany, WOOHOO!!!

Good morning!
I am really looking forward to the whole trip! The more I think about it, the sea days will be great since it always seems there is never enough time on the cruises to do things or just relax. I am also looking forward to skipping dinner a few times! LOL!!! I never like to do it normally, but with so many nights, why not! DH is soooo happy I said that!:cutie:

The shop is actually Little Switzerland, but they do sell Tiffany jewellery. Lorraine dented my wallet significantly there last time (and at many other Tiffany's since) As I recall it was quite walkable - 52 Front St is the address.

o, ok Sarah, if you really insist.:goodvibes:thumbsup2

A) What port are you looking forward to most and why?

B) What are you doing for xmas?(assuming you celebrate it)

I am looking forward to Gibralter. Me mainly because my son is! I love to see him get excited about learning new things. At 12 he isn't quick to show it... Personally, this is my first trip to Europe, so I am excited about all of it!!

For Christmas we are staying home. My mom is in a nursing home, and this will be her first year there, so we may get a card table and have our dinner there (instead of bringing a plate). Other than that, we will be home to see if Santa remembered where we live... (our 5 year old is so much fun to watch and observe during the holidays!)

Dont know if thats good or bad:)

Actually I don't know if I could pick just one port. I've never been to Europe so any port on that side of the Atlantic will be new. I've never been to St. Maarten and I was at Tortola one time about 22 years ago (another cruise line and another lifetime!!:rotfl:) AND I am looking forward to all eight sea days (especially when we are crossing) :thumbsup2

Okay - just looking forward to the entire trip!!! :rotfl2:

On christmas eve I spend some time at my niece's annual Christmas party. Christmas day has evolved for me. Kids are no longer little (their adults). The oldest will probably spend Christmas eve early at my niece's house (his cousin) and then he and his new wife will head up to her parents where they will probably stay overnight and spend Christmas morning and afternoon with them. My youngest works nights so his schedule is to fall asleep around the time I get up. Sooo, Christmas day is now a very quiet morning. I will make a partial dinner and take it over to my sister's where she will add the rest. The real Christmas for me starts in the early evening when my entire family (sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and all their respective significant others) meet at my Mom's/sister's house and spend time together eating (leftovers and desserts), talking about their day, the gifts they received, and then exchanging our gifts.

This year, I will begin dog-sitting for a friend (at her house) beginning the day after Christmas and going through to New Year's Eve. So it will be a strange end to my year!

Good morning everyone,
It is 14 degrees right now and w eare not suppose to even get up to freezing and tonight will be worse, only 11 degrees is expected:eek:

To answer this weeks question:

We are looking forward to seeing the new ports. We have done 20 DCL cruises and are tired of the same old ports, although we like them. I am especially excited to see the Monkeys at Gibralter. Its fun to do something new.

Christmas:
Well ours will be different than normal this year. Our oldest DD has asked us over, but we will be gathering the day after Christmas. I will be going Christmas to stay with my mom for as long as I can. She is nearing the end of her life and is in a facility for Dimentia patients. She may not even be with us at Christmas.
Plus my youngest DD is due to deliver right around Christmas which could alter our plans too. She was just diagnosed with diabetes so now her healthy pregnancy has turned potentially dangerous for her and the baby.
So who knows what our plans will really be. We will have to play it by hear as they say this year.:thumbsup2

I still have all my shopping to do and cards to make out and baking to do. I am so slow this year, so I will have to kick it into high gear soon.;)

Hope everyone is staying warm and safe with all the storms across the country right now. No snow here thank goodness, just the cold.

Have a great day everyone,
Kathy

Word of warning to all those looking forward to seeing the apes (sorry to be pedantic but they aren't monkeys lol :-P ) at Gibraltar, don't take any food or even carrier bags within sight of them. We were warned before going to see them on the last WB TA. At the cafe at the top of the rock we saw a lady walk out with a carrier bag with some souvenirs in, no food at all, and to put it mildy she was mugged by a couple of apes. Once they had been through the bag, which was done with the sort of efficiency that comes with much practice, they discarded it and it's contents and went on the lookout for their next victim. People without carrier bags or food were left alone completely, and we were able to get quite close to many of them for photos etc.

Trust me, I would call you miss

Re BA and flights, this is why I aviod BA, they changed my flight from a 3 hour connection to a 5 hour connection:sad2:then they put on a more suitable flight and would not change me unless I paid for it, said I agreed to change, now I never agreed to change, it was possibly the most frustrating and annoying service Ive ever had from anybody, kept getting passed along, we eneded up sitting in london for 6 hours while another 2 ba flights left for scotland.

True.

There's probably an automatic agree in the terms and conditions lol. I had a nice note on the email saying "if this is not suitable please contact us and we will endeavour to help" but this is the last flight of the day so I don't see how anyone can help! Luckily had a bit of a window between getting to Heathrow and flight. Less time in the lounge I already paid for though!

Also be careful with kids and hair braids! They like little jewellery bits so any shiney beads they will go for. Saw a girl have them pulled from her head!

I am going to take the opportunity to correct my dh (gpb_1) as he is WRONG - doesnt happen very often so i am going to make the most of it!

Barbary apes are acutally monkeys and not apes as the name suggests!

Monkeys are usually identified by the presence of a tail, but the barbary ape is a tail-less monkey.

just saying!:goodvibes
