When booking our flights this week for our trip to WDW I was reading the AA website. They were saying that there are certain seats that have power stations at them where you can plug items in. They stated which rows/seats had them. I am sure in a case as yours you would be able to reserve these seats without a problem. Not sure if it would help or not but maybe you would not have to carry as many batteries???

We keep going back and forth on flying in ahead of time or not. The reason we would not is that the hotels in BCN are SOOOOOO expensive! We shall see though as time gets closer.

That's a great idea- when my flight gets booked I'll ask about the seats with power stations. Usually for someone with medical needs, DCL books the air a little early so those kind of arrangements can be made. I agree about the expensive hotels. I booked the Hilton Diagonal Mar via DCL- it's $420 a night just for one person. Fortunately I got it- when I first started looking all they had was the Meredian something-or-other and it was over $600 a night. I really wanted everything booked via DCL but my daughter and her then-fiance stayed in BCN a few years ago and got a really nice place to stay pretty cheap- I'll have to ask her where they stayed and will share their info. I figure if I'm going all the way over there I want to see some of the city.

My advivce for dealing with the jet lag is to make yourself stay up until after dinner on that first day when you land (if you can and want to take a MORNING nap in order to do so then good, but do not sleep in the afternoon or you will never get a full nights sleep and adjust). Then go to bed a bit early (say around 8:00 pm) and set an alarm to get up for whatever time you want to be getting up for normally the next day. We did that in Germany last month and even the kids adjusted with no problems whatsoever. It makes for a loooong first/travel day, but the rest of the trip goes so much mroe smoothlly

I'll try and take that advice- I know I'll be so excited to actually be there and have the flight overwith that I'll probably not be able to sleep right away anyway.

We haven't had a Question of the Week in a while. So, being a librarian and all, what is a book you have enjoyed (old or new--kids or adult, whatever) enough to recomend it to others????

Gosh, I have read so many good books that I love. One of my favorites is "A Prayer for Owen Meany". ---Kathy

Morning everyone,
Gosh after having 4 kids close together I got out of the habit of reading much. I kept getting interupted and at night I was too tired, but from the early days I would say:
The Lord of the Rings series including the separate book of The Hobbit was a great series. These were popular 30 years before the movies in my house.:goodvibes

Have a great day everyone,
Kathy

:welcome: everyone who has just joined us. My DH and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary next year and plan to do it up in style on the cruise. I thought we were doing great, but y'all make us seem like pups!:worship:

We'll be celebrating our 15th on October first at Castaway Cay, so we will only celebrate half as much as you. That's our excuse to get out of work for such a long stretch.

I love to read though never have enough time:rolleyes1 .

Favorites:
Harry Potter series, of course
101 Dalmations (original by Dodie Smith) - I loved this as a kid and reread it every year

Most recently I finished
World without End by Ken Follett, the sequel to Pillars of the Earth

I was a little intimidated by the size (+1k pages!), but it was a really good read and I would recommend it and also Pillars of the Earth.

I haven't read the Twilight series yet, but my kids insist I must.

I also like reading Patricia Cromwell's Kay Scarpetta series and Sue Grafton's Alphabet mystery series as great "poolside" easy reads.

I love reading other's suggestions! I thought I would get so much reading done on the EBTA '07 - :sad2: I think I read a total of 25 pages! Hopefully, this cruise will be less hectic. Heck, if nothing else I'll have 25 hours/day instead of 23:banana: :rotfl2:

I just finished the Twilight series and really enjoyed them didn't think I would really surprised myself!! First time I ever read anything that had to do with vampires.

Joe and I both like for a quick read and a good laugh Janet Evanowich's Stephanie Plum series

A friend of mine loves that series. That just reminded me of another very funny book
The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz
This was a birthday present last year and laugh out loud funny! (Same friend gave me this book.)

Ahoy there :wave2:

DH and I are considering a transatlantic cruise in 2010 and this one caught my eye! It looks like it'd be the perfect itinerary (Europe and the Caribbean in one cruise, can't beat that!!).

My first question is, what is your best estimate at what the airfare would be like? We'd be flying into Spain a day or two before the cruise, from Boston. Anyone else flying out of Logan? Also, I'm wondering if anyone from our previous DCL cruises is booked on this one. Is there a list that I could check out? Thanks!

P.S. This cruise would be for our 10th anniversary! :)

I'll leave the airfare questions to the experts on this thread (we're newbies at TA, too, so decided to leave it to Disney), but to find a list of travelers, go to transatlanticpirates.com and click on the roll call. Hope you join us!

:wave2: there - couldn't help putting my two sense in - two of my favorite reads are Jonathen Kellerman - he does a series on Alex Delaware (who's a therapist or pyschiatrist SP???) who partners with a gay detective MIlo Sturgis - its usually what I call a mindless bubble gum good read and I like his series - his latest is "Bones". I also like to read Kathy Reichs of Fox's "Bones" Tempe Brennan TV Series. I also don't have much time to read so I download a lot of the new books and then go back and get the good ones in book form if they are really good. It gives just enough intrigue and whiles away the time. Just my two cents for now. Dang - the :laundy: buzzer went off.

Through Disney from San Diego to Barcelona then Orlando to San Diego including transfers was just under $1,000 a person for airfare.

Thank you, that was very helpful! I actually see 3 people whom I've cruised with before; Karen, Bev, and Lindsey! :grouphug:

Ok, book I would recommend right off the top of my head? Ender's Game to be followed immediately by Ender's Shadow. Both are by Orson Scott Card.

Did anyone book the air with Disney for the last TA westbound? I'm trying to figure out how the day will go... They keep saying red eye, but what time do we get into Barcelona? I mean, red eye here would be 6 in the morning there... Please esplain...

Stephanie, are you feeling better or is it baby #3? Maybe you said, and I've just missed a bunch of posts!

I just finished reading Extreme Measures by Vince Flynn. It was a very quick read. Timely in a current events kind of way too. Scary but timely.

I also love Nelson DeMille, especially his ones where Det. John Corey is the main character. Plum Island, The Lion's Game, Wildfire -- all 3 were great, and Night Falls (it was OK, but the ending sucked). I like espionage and politics. :thumbsup2

Lots of new folks here. Hello!

NO BABY NUMBER 3!!! Madison was born premature and was a very scary case! The doctors recommended not having any more kids because of that. We have been on pins and needles for the past few weeks because of all of this!

Well, I am glad it worked out the way you wanted! Phew!

We are flying in the day of the cruise and we are going through Disney. We are paying around $900/person with all transfers and return airfare to Boston at the end. Hope this helps. We actually set sail on our 17th anniversary.

EVERYBODY who has shared books they love--thanks:) I LOVE:love: seeing this stuff and I am getting some good ideas to boot. Oh, and Anna I am right there with you on not getting any reading done on the TA:lmao: This time I know better than to even try.

:wave2: I remember you from the VMK boards, although I wasn't around much.

For the 2007 TA I fly into Paris from San Francisco for $650 per person. Then took a train from Paris to Barcelona for $220 per person. And finally flew home to SF from Orlando for $120 pp. This time, for now, I've booked DCL air for $950 pp. I'll price it out as we get closer to see if I can do better on my own.
