Sept 18 2010 WB TransAtlantic Pirates/Capt Jacks Re-Repoing Repossession Cruise Pt.10

We had 15 here for Thanksgiving. Fun time with good friends. :love:15 was perfect since our table seats 14 and one little guy brought his own high chair. It was really nice to have us all at one big table. After dinner we played a game of Yahtzee and I think I got an all time record LOW score! I only had 112 total....Dennis had 113 just on the top portion of the page. :sad2::sad2::sad2:

So nice to get a new refrigerator!
We went into town for a couple of hours to get some bargains. Didn't need alot and we did NOT brave the early crowds. We shopped only from 10-11. We got a Dyson vaccum cleaner :dance3::yay: and I got a new little hand mixer since my 40 year old one was starting to struggle. We also got a hand mixer ($3) for our grandson for Christmas. He called a few days ago and asked how one would go about making mashed 'taters, if one were going to do that. :lmao: He is 21 and just living on his own out of dorms now. I told him how to make them and he said he has no potato masher or mixer so he would try it with a fork. So we decided to get those things for him and send along with his Christmas $$.
I also got a sewing machine. Just a simple one, nothing fancy. I did not move my old, cranky one with us when we moved to MT 2 years ago. So now I am trying to find someone who need something sewed!! :confused3 I'm "thinking", just thinking at this point, about making a quilt. I made one some years ago and sewed all the seams by hand, but I'm thinking (I think that I may be thinking too much!) that I would like to sew the seams by machine and then just hand quilt one.

So for me, a mixer, sewing machine and vaccum. Yay! Merry Christmas to me!! :rotfl2::lmao:

Sounds like you had a fun shopping expedition!! Let me know how you like the Dyson as I am thinking of replacing my old vacuum. Too funny about mashing potatoes with a fork. DH husband like to use our Kitchen Aid mixer to make them creamy!!

My mother was the one who sewed so when she passed away, my sister Wendy asked for her Bernina sewing machine as she is the only one of us who sews.[/URL]

Noel, we got the DC25 Animal. I used it yesterday and I like it alot!! It has the ball and is very easy to navigate and it is not heavy at all. It also has great suction. The reviews I had read were all good.

In the run up to the Transatlantic cruise, I made friends with some people who were on the cruise and live in Dubai. I had emailed them before I went to Dubai in the hope to meet up with them. They happened to be on holiday, but emailed me on Wednesday. They raised a few issues that put me on high alert and prompted me to ask further questions. I also did some research online and I did not like what I found out through either.

This should have been a fairly straightforward transfer and I should have kept my seniority and all the length of service related benefits. By asking a few questions, I found out that they see this as a completely new employment and I would lose all the benefits that I have worked so hard for including my profit share. This was totally unacceptable to me.

I also found out that it is normal practice that you are shown your accommodation during the interview process. This did not happen. I was just given the name of the area where I would be housed. When I googled this, I found out that this is essentially an industrial estate and that most of the residential aspect of this are labour camps. They had kept rather quite about this as well.

Needless to say, I turned down their "generous" offer yesterday and I am staying put where I am. It was supposed to be permanent and I was supposed to be there by Christmas, which would have been a bit of a nightmare anyway with the cruise straight after Christmas.

To make up for this disappointment, I ordered my dress for the vow renewal today. It should hopefully be here when I come back from the Panama Canal cruise.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend (holiday weekend for those in the states). So we had a great Thanksgiving! Pretty much the entire family got together for dinner. We have dinner at my sister's house. This year they made a regular and a deep fried turkey. I always bake the desserts. Normally, two apple and two pumpkin along with chocolate chip cookies for the dinner. This year I made an additional two pumpkin pies (one each for the two boys to take with them).

I was very excited to have both boys making dinner this year. Unfortunately, the youngest and his GF arrive about an hour late. They both work nights for UPS at the airport and you can imagine that it is VERY busy this time of year. They didn't even get home from work until about 7:30 AM. They overslept a bit from their nap and then ran into major traffic trying to make it up. At least I did get to see both Dave and Amy and Eric and Stephanie on Thanksgiving day.

After dinner, Eric and Stephanie decided to head back home as they were very tired and needed to get a little sleep so they could head out for Black Friday sales. Dave and Amy left to head for a second dinner with her parents and family. The rest of us all went to the movies to see Tangled. A very cute movie!!! Then headed back to my sister's for sandwiches and dessert. A long day but fun!

Yesterday I didn't brave the stores (I think you actually need money to do that, right?). Planned on taking my nieces and nephew to see HP but turned out it was sold out. Took them back to my sister's and when I went to leave I turned the ignition on the car and NOTHING! Luckily my brother-in-law was home and really helped alot. One battery replacement and I'm back on the road.

Today I'm bumming a bit. Hoping to sift through more pictures (mine and others that have shared) to get ready for my scrapbooking event next weekend. I'm also going to try to update more of my trip report - really! Tomorrow we are hoping to try again for HP.

One last thing - I have an interview for a new job on Tuesday. My company is closing the pilot plant where I work and about 80 people will be losing their jobs come January 7th. I'm lucky that I have a line on a new job. Probably a bit less money but at least I won't have to collect unemployment and then have to worry about finding something new in this economy. So wish me luck!

Corinna,

Sorry to hear that it was not all you thought it would be. I'm sure a bit disappointing but you must be very relieved that you found all of this out before you accepted the job! Doesn't sound like it would have been better at all. Sounds like they were trying to hide alot of information from you in hopes that you would accept, get there, and then be stuck.

Everything works out for the best! In the meantime, congrats on the new dress!!!

Thank goodness you got the heads up and ask some questions. Yikes! That could have been disasterous as it was considered a new employment.

We had a lovely Thanksgiving. Hope you are having a lovely time in Maui.
Hello from Honolulu. Today we drove to see the Aulani (DVC resort opening 2011). We saw the Black Pearl in the harbor nearby.

Hello all. :goodvibes

I am checking in to say thanks for all of you who are still posting here. I have enjoyed the photos, videos and trip reports. I got some of my photos printed out and put a book together to share our trip with family and friends. We are still reliving the wonderful trip made special by all of the friends and acquaintances we made (DISers). There is nothing like traveling with Disney fans. :cool1:

Thanksgiving was great and three of our four adult kids were able to make it. We are looking forward to Christmas with all of our kids planning to come. :yay:

We are enjoying year two in Roseburg, OR and the “Small Town America” feeling. We went to the Christmas Tree Lighting in front of the Courthouse downtown where there were Christmas carols and a Live Manger scene including a donkey and a sheep. Santa arrived on an ATV with police escort.

We have our outside Christmas lights up and the tree is being decorated as I write this. Our grandkids are putting ornaments on the tree. :dance3:

I have been checking the DIS post for our next Disney Cruise, Sept 20, 2011 Vancouver to LA, post but not much is going on there. :confused3 I’m sure it will get going when it gets closer (10 months away).

I still haven’t downloaded all of our Barcelona Videos, but will get it done soon.

We wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. :)

Keep on posting! :surfweb:

Tim and Kathy

Great to hear from you and Kathy, Tim. :grouphug: Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving and will enjoy Christmas. :thumbsup2
