*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

We were talking about this a while ago and figured they would know we are tourists - especially American tourists as soon as we (1) look around while walking, (2) talk loudly - in American English, (3) wear our American shoes, (4) just show up, because we look American. Yeah, we're tourists; you can dress like it. :goodvibes

You are so right, I have a friend who is a pilot and he said they were told not to wear bright colored clothes, you really stand out like an American tourist. People in Europe as a rule don't wear bright clothes during their daily routines.

Sorry I missed this one! I'm planning to put mine in small bags and tag them (yet another thing to do), but mine are small individually wrapped pieces and I'm giving several to each cabin.

That is what I am doing to, so I guess I'll head up to the dollar store and look for some little bags

BTW, how did you get 282 labels? There are only 60-odd (62? 63? even I can't recall) total cabins on the FE lists, or about 150 people (including kids), and 20 cabins and 50 people on the candy swap list.

That question is for Smootenloops who posted about the 282 labels...

I better check all my candy swap info again too. Do you just put pieces of candy loose in the FEs or do you bag and tag them with who they are from? I have about 50 candy swappers, so if that is the case I better get started!!!
I'm giving the same thing to each cabin, bagged and labeled. I like knowing who's giving me something, so I assume others do, too. Actually, my mother (Pinkpug) and I will be sharing a bag but each contributing candy from our areas.

Darn...the lights are flickering. If we lose power, I'll scream (but not as loud as I'll yell when we get our cabin assignment!!!!):scared1::scared1::scared1::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Thanks for answers. I'll go with tojam's "resort casual" approach. There's no way I can hide the "American tourist" cuz the second I open my mouth nuthin' but Texas drawl comes out!

Just thinking out loud here - but I find it weird that DCL doesn't send you nice hard plastic luggage tags like we got the last two times we booked a trip to WDW.

Hi all

Just catching up on all the chat re the event.

As you all know, we have been chatting for months about our deck 10 balcony and all the lovely bottles of bubbly, FABs, and the copious amounts of alcohol we are going to buy and demolish from morrisons.

Let's make champagne girls a bit more special and let DCL serve it to us instead :thumbsup2. Sessions is a lovely place to have it :lovestruc It's a shame it may clash for a few people with pub crawl, but we are going to get onboard and some of the great DCL activities are going to clash with our DIS schedule anyway, so it's inevitable.

I vote for a lovely venue and organised by DCL and, after all the hard work that Claire has put in, it would be a shame not to do it :confused3

Thanks for your continued effort Claire it's appreciated :)

Hey, I'm game for however the majority wants to do it. I look at it as a challenge.......Pub Crawl from 1:00 - 2:45, stagger to the room to put my "Champagne Girls" princess pinks on, go to Champagne Girls event from 3:00 - 4:30.....stumble back to the room to put my Pub Crawl clothes back on til 5:00.......slosh back to the room to get ready for dinner at 6:00 pm.....all this in about 5 hrs! Now if I fall forward into my food, please kindly lean me back and let me sleep it off!

All kidding aside.....it doesn't matter if they are both on the same day. We'll do what we can and have a great time doing it!

My thought exactly!

As we'll probably meet the crawl folks and nurse one for more than one stop- I can feel free to peel away and don my 'pinks' for the CG meet wherever it happens to be!

Thanks to all for the hard work for all of the events!

Just came across this on another thread; it was posted by yesterday someone who is on the Dream and they are talking about CC:

I am writing this from Olive's Restaurant in Nassau, on the Dream doing a back to back (this is the 2nd one.)

I was told by several staff at guest services that the damage is heavy and bulldozers are being sent in. A full team is en route today. They told me CC would be out of commission for at least a few cruises. Reported roofs blown off and water in Cookies II.

That's too bad.

Okay, it's just under 4 weeks til we get there. Who thinks they'll have CC back together by then? I think there's a good chance, as long as no other storms hit.

Fingers and toes crossed that they work that old Disney magic and have CC ready in record time. I know, I'm just being selfish here, but I love CC!

For those of you familiar with British Airways, how strict are they on luggage (carry-on) dimensions? My planned bag is 2-3 inches too "tall"

Thank you!!

ROOM NUMBER CHANGES

This is another great reason to come to the 3:00 Promenade Meet - to get stateroom numbers for those who change at the port (or finally get an assignment).

Last year, I had all the DIS names printed on cardstock (in large letters, so people could see), in alphabetical order. If someone had a change, we could change the list and others could see easily the new info. Somebody then kept the list along with the white board.

That worked very well:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Since we've never been to Barca (or Europe, for that matter) could someone clue us in on appropriate daytime attire? We are attending a cooking class and roaming through museums. No Cathedrals or anywhere formal. I've googled this question and the answers are somewhat outdated and/or conflicting.

It was quite funny last year because when this question was asked the overriding answer was we should be fairly smart. We had a Spaniard on the thread and she said that Barcelona people are smart and you won't see shorts. So I made John wear his long trousers the first day(I'm a rules person:blush:) and that was just rubbish information. Of course the business people were smart and other workers in long trousers, but just about everyone else was dressed extremely casual. John was far too hot and felt silly and wore shorts thereafter. I could tell the Brits(apart from us of course) a mile off.:rotfl2:

I don't think BA measures hand baggage like the budget airlines but if it is a soft bag you can kind of squash it down.;)

I'm a bit frustrated this morning.

I can't get onto the Disney site to check my childcare availability, since we changed the date for Champagne Girls. Has anyone else had trouble getting on it today?

So with the changes, it means we'll have Group 1 Palo Brunch, then the Pub Crawl, the Champagne Girls. Depending on childcare for our 2 year old, I'll probably have to skip the Pub Crawl (but Steve will go), but I'm really hoping I don't have to skip CG too.

I'm definately expecting the mojito/mixology classes to land on the same day - but I'm reluctant to change anything til I know the dates!

Planners, please don't think I'm moaning at you - you've all done a brilliant job! It's just hard figuring out how to do it all when it's landed on the same day.

So come on Disney site... LET ME IN! :headache:

Oh gosh that sounds fun! Magical ending to the evening, as long as I'm not missing any Disney theater :-p I have no idea how the schedule looks with main dining

It was after the theatre shows ... with main dining the show will be after your dinner, but I think it will be finished by about 9:30pm ...usually starts at 8:30pm. Soemtimes they have a late shoe in the theatre but it will be one of the guest entertainers as opposed to a Disney show ... that sometimes started about 10:30pm / 10:45pm.

How about meeting under the stars or even during the day on the "secret" aft deck on deck 7. It has enough room for all of us...we could be a flash champagne mob.LOL:::banana::banana::banana:

Sounds good .... is there seating on deck 7 aft .... I have never been there but if there is it sounds like a good place to meet !!

Trying to get an idea of how "dressy" -- at any rate we won't be in tanks, tubes, or daisy-dukes, lol!! My body has shifted too much for that :)

Just be aware if you plan to go into the cathedral or any church buildings that ladies can't go with in bare legs ( above the knee ) or shoulders ... so a longish skirt or capri pants and something to cover your shoulders ( cardigan, wrap etc ) is the way to go for that. Otherwise just normal casual clothing. I tended to wear capri pants and a top ( and carried a cardigan ) For the evening I wore white pants.

Oh no ...... I hope they get things back to normal as soon as possible ... that is such a shame :sad2:

They do have a thing you have to put your bag into to check it is the appropriate size. Not sure if they stick to it like glue though. Personally I would go on the side of caution and get a bag within the accepted dimensions, because it would be a nightmare if they wouldn't let you take your bag. Haven't flown with BA though since they made all the strict guildelines about luggage so maybe someone else who flies with them could be more helpful.

Group 1 Palo brunch is the 13th dawn, no conflict for us : )))

I'm sorry Sarah - I thought we were talking about the 13th? So is CG the 15th then? I'm so lost!

Apologies for being confusing, everyone! I can't keep up.

Have you been able to get onto the Disney site for babysitting? I was thinking I'd just have to leave it til we got onboard to make any changes, but I've not done my online check-in yet and I can't get in!

I'm good with what the masses wish to do. However... My preference is closer to what GatorMomInNC is suggesting. :)

WELCOME!!! My DH (Erik) and I are also from the USA. We actually live in Minnesota. I hope we get a chance to meet IRL. :)

In other news: Please stay safe everyone who is in the line of miss crabby (aka hurricane Irene). I'm watching coverage and it seems like quite the storm but I'm glad she's only a category 1.

Hi there in Mn, I lived in Eagan nr the twin cities for a while in 1997-98, great memories of a great place and warm people . . .

I see lots of you are staying for a few days in Orlando after the cruise. If you have never been outside of WDW and the surrounding area then I have a few suggestions.

If you have the time and a hire car (rental) and want to see something different then drive to Winter Park. Not too far up the I-4 and easy to get to. Great individual shops and eateries. The museum has a large collection of Tiffany Windows and jewellery and the boat ride around the lake is so relaxing after days in a hectic theme park!

For those who don't mind a longer drive then go to St Augustine on the East Coast. Very historic, interesting and good small shops and eateries...Plus oldest school and jail.
