*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

Ha, ha, ha. We all had to wait till everybody with cabins are on board and then they can see what cabins we get. And then I see everybody with GTY searching for there cabins.
We wait, but it is the first time for us on a cruise, so we are so curious where we stay. It is all new for us.

Maybe they won't assign our rooms - they will just give us a list and then release us at one time to run and grab whichever one we can get - sort of like the land rush in the West 100+ years ago. Whoever gets there first gets the room.

...One nice thing is that the rooms pretty much all look alike (except for the 3 types of Concierge suites). There are only 2 furniture layouts, all the furniture and linens are the same; then there's the difference of a window or verandah (or neither) and single or split bathrooms. And they are all the same size.

Now I have an Oceanview Guaranteed, so I know my bed with be nearer the door than the window and I will be looking at the side of the bed (not the foot or the sitting area) when I walk in. The sofa will be perpendicular to the window. This cabin type also has a split bathroom, so I'll have 2 sinks for me! I guess I'll put all my toothbrush and makeup in the one without the toilet.

Have you decided if you and Paul are having the main bed split into two twins or letting him sleep on the back of the sofa (it folds down into a single bed). When you meet your stateroom host, let him know which is your preference (if it's not already set up the way you want it).

oh dear I feel for you, it can be bad enough to have a negative comment from someone you don't know well..... but from your own family. I know I will put on weight on this cruise and it's no good me trying to tell myself I won't, I intend to enjoy myself and worry later...lol perhaps you could hide from MIL for a while!!

Eating has always been a very important part of vacations to me.:woohoo: Not the eating at posh restaurants and things like that, just the pleasure of eating anything as and when I want!!:rotfl2: Of course on a cruise you can eat the whole day long too.:lmao:

Larry's mother has always been "a little odd", too, and has made many "slightly upsetting" comments over the years, but I just chalked it up to undiagnosed mental illness (and I truly have empathy for those with mental health issues, but when it's your MIL.....:confused3). For example, she used to wrap up left-over household items as Christmas gifts, so that people would have more to unwrap (along with a couple of nice gifts). I'm talking things like unused medical equipment after a hospitalization (bedpans, etc.), lightbulbs, ancient knick-knacks. When Larry was in high school and wanted an archery set, he received a child's set, suitable for a 5 yr. old. :sad2: She always treated her family like they were second to friends/co-workers, whom she was always helping with favors and money (substantial amounts over the years). I won't even get into the BIL/SIL; let's just say Larry is the "good one," which is why we now handle her finances and medical issues. I will say, now that she has dementia and forgets to complain about the same things over and over, it's not so bad ;). After all the MIL comments on #5, Larry said he was surprised I hadn't posted...I told him I was now in my "happy place" and thankfully other MILs were worse than mine! :rotfl2:But, sometimes you just have to share :thumbsup2. I'll spare you all the details. Of course, he can't complain about his MIL; she'll be on this trip!

Well I think your MIL wins top spot for doing odd things. Bedpans for Christmas!!:lmao:

Thanks Lynne for the weekly recap, and you went and posted those great food pictures again so now I want to go and eat something naughty, and you know what they say.....resistance is futile :rotfl2::rotfl2:

But what's a vacation without dessert anyway?? ;)

I totally agree:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I have officially booked every aspect of this trip and typed up a complete itinerary for my family. They wanted to know where I'd be everyday, so I put a 10 page packet together with pictures and details :-) I'M SO EXCITED... ITS A REAL TRIP NOW!

Thats great I hope you found somewhere convenient to stay the night before the cruise:thumbsup2

:banana::banana: I think I can manage that :rotfl2::rotfl2:

And now off to try and do some packing yet again !!!!

My main mission as far as packing goes at the moment is to try and make what I have to take much lighter in the vain hope that the sum total of what I save goes someway towards the large amount of weight allowance reduction I have to find. We aren't doing FE this time and that took quite a bit of room/weight last year. But of course the truth is even that is only a small part. I am scared.:scared1:

ok with all this talk of packing, i'm wondering if i'm the only one (or are there others like me) who won't start packing til the 8th, possibly the 9th?

Oooh Karen, I'm not packing yet, just organising things. I am a last minute packer. Though we might just try and do the garment bag this weekend and see how things are going.

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Hope it's a nice QUIET day to day - no earthquakes, hurricanes, or other natural or unnatural disasters.

I did look at the maritime map for the dream this morning, and it appears she has rounded the end of grand Bahama Island. NOT a good sign for their CC day.

That's my next project. I don't know that I'll have to be that extensive but I finally finished up all my FE gifts and other things I'm making and all my door decorations. I just tied my last bow. Tomorrow I will start with the organization and maybe even get to packing my carry on! This is starting to become so real to me... I am gettting those butterflies in my stomach like I did when I was a kid on Christmas morning.

Oh, shoot! I just exposed you all to the nerd in me... :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Honey, trust me on this one! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

I bought 3 Barcelona guide books and was lent two more. Yesterday, I scanned the relevant maps out (they're small) and laminated them back to back so I won't have to get out my big map on the street to see where to go.

Today, I need to fix up a "cars" themed gift packet for a "wish" kid. He'll be at GKTW while we're at sea. Boys are harder than girls - for them anything 'princess' will usually do.:cutie:

Happy day, all!

Nope, I leave about noon on the 8th and won't be packing until that morning. :)

yes I know that feeling, just because my first sort was 21 dresses without anything esle!! but I want to take them and I know I can't. We are doing FE because this is our first Disney cruise, but I know what you mean about the weight..... my big problem is indecision :scared1::scared1:

I love doing FE and was upset when we decided not to do it this time. You will love it. It just adds to the whole experience. I will miss having our FE outside the door too as it was great for spotting the room.

We did Back to Back 2 cruises a couple of years ago and was in the FE group the first week but didn't bother for the second(for a few reasons). However we kept our FE up for the 2nd week to help with finding our room but found a couple of FE gifts in there obviously from the group doing it that week. They must just have gone round dropping in every FE.:confused3 I guess their numbers would have been wrong at the end of their drop run. We took the FE down then to stop that happening again.

I was at work talking to a woman who lives in Granville Co (north of Raleigh, closer to Va) and she said, "That is weird, my porch just started shaking" and 2 seconds later I felt the ground underneath my office chair shake" Everyone in the office just assumed they were doing some work somewhere in the building, but I said, "I think that is an earthquake!!" mainly because of what the woman had said. It was a very surreal experience - I know there is a fault in the midwest, but I didn't realize there was one in Va. People in California probably wouldn't have even noticed it!

My brother in OH and my sister in upstate NY also said they felt it.

I felt it in Ottawa too, but at the time didn't realize that it was tremors from the Earthquake...movement was so slight and for only a few seconds that I thought it was just me feeling weird. Then when we heard about the earthquake, several of my colleagues commented that they had had a weird sensation too and had just thought it was something up with them so hadn't mentioned it. 2 of them did say they wondered why the water in the fish tanks they have on their desks started to slosh around!

Hope everybody who lives closer to where the Earthquake hit is safe.

We'll be packing the day before we leave, suitcases will be in the loft until then :)

Great idea! Now they can enjoy a little bit of the trip along with you! :thumbsup2

I have added your thread to the cruise meet list :thumbsup2

Have a great cruise!

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::yay:Happy Wednesday to everyone! Counting today...only 18 more days til wining & dining comes our way (and of course, riverdancing/"dis"co. dancing!)!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::yay:

Hi Sarah,

I sent you a PM about adding Vickie and I to the Hard Rock meet.

We felt the earthquake in New Jersey. It was a little scary.

Hope everyone over there is ok after that earthquake and no one has sustained any damage :hug::hug:

What with earthquakes and impending hurricanes .... I wish mother nature would quieten down for a few weeks :wizard::wizard::wizard:

yes - that is where we are - sorry for the bad spelling, my speach is even worse! We go swim in Lake Thumsee almost everyday so that is helping with the heat. Yes we have been to saltzburg, my brother and sister live there. The other places no, I do not think so - but could have been :)

Walked today to the little store down the road - bad mistake - got lots of goodies, including coke, and heinz ketchup!

we went on a 5 hour hike the other day to an Alm - really cool - I have pictures up on my facebook account.

Krisann

Krisann, did you go to Rothenburg Ob der Tauber, this besides Vienna, is my most favorite place in the whole wide world. I just love it there, I have been there many times. Did you find any Ice?:rotfl::rotfl:

The "what if's" started in my head this AM - and all things that are stupid. Example: "what if another hurricane moves up the east coast and impacts NY on the 8th and we can't get in to NYC for our flight?"

They rarely move up the coast (like Irene is expected to) so I don't know what I'm even thinking. Just been planning this one for so long I am not in the mood to deal with something screwing it up after all of this waiting!
