Heather, how is your MIL only 60?! and you've got teenagers. (My family were late starters - my grandmother was 61 when I was born, my mother was the same when my sister had her first)

I get this a lot. I didn't think we had children young but i guess we did. My MIL had my DH at 24, and I had my oldest child at 21. It is kind of fun to have young parents while my kids are older. However, I think we are in the minority. Most of the folks I know with kids my age are about 10 years older than me and many of my children's friends have grandparents the same age as my grandparents. It's like we added an extra generation or something. :)

I have a Prince and Princess to "rent".

:thumbsup2

My husband isn't too worried about joining us on a tea, so I'm guessing I can take 3 people? If anyone wants to come with us, can you PM me? My 2 year old girl and 6 year old boy would love some company!

If you (or anyone else) has child I could rent/accompany to the prince or princess tea, I'd love to go! Nothing sounds better to me than a tea with a bunch of sweet little (or big) princes and princesses...

Not to be redundant but....

I HATE GTY!!!!!! I know, I know... I did it to myself. I just over estimated my self control.

Effective immediately GTY stands for.....

Going to YELL!!!!!:confused3

I am totally right there with you!!! DCL ought to know that I don't have the patience for this! :rotfl2:

Well, I just got home from a rotten shift at work. I may be down to one job tomorrow - because at this point in my life, nobody bullies me. Oh well, it was a stinky job, anyway. I'll still have my job with the groomer, which is more fun - and pays better. Okay, pity party over now.
Lots of parties around here....what's one more?;)

Nothing feels better than calmly stating "I'm leaving".

Something that just occured to me as a good precaution item to take....a travle size sewing kit, in case a button pops off or something.
I never travel without one. Murphy's Law!

Not to be redundant but....

I've given up yelling....thank you for taking over :goodvibes. It really is annoying, isn't it? :headache:

This would be the commissary job that pays nothing?

Yep. The "boss" (aka head bagger) hired a lot of new people the last couple of weeks. Problem is, there aren't enough customers to support that many baggers. Most of us haven't even been making minimum wage every day. Not even close. The tips have been terrible lately. One customer was overheard saying, "Why do we have to tip these people? They don't do anything," after the bagger packed up their 10 or 12 bags of groceries! There is a sign on the wall that says, "baggers work for tips," and anyone who has ever shopped at a US military base commissary knows this - it's the same everywhere.

Anyway, I was late getting there today and heard the head bagger was looking for me (he leaves at 4). I thought maybe he wanted to know why I was late - even though there are several of us who are late, usually b/c of our other jobs, though admittedly, I've been taking my time getting there, knowing there are plenty of baggers and it will be a while before I get a customer, anyway. The assistant head bagger, who is in charge of my shift, doesn't really care if we're a little late. She's a sweetheart. But that wasn't it.

Apparently, he has a problem with me taking 3 weeks off for the cruise. Funny thing is, when he hired me back in April, I told him, point blank, that I'd be away for 3 weeks in September, which he said would not be a problem and I should just be sure to mark it on the scheduling calender. I did that the first week I worked there - that would be back in April. And NOW he decides he has a problem with it? Wouldn't surprise me - he's very inconsistent about enforcing rules. If he likes you, you don't have to follow them; if not, you'd better follow them to the letter - and even then he'll find fault. And several of the baggers have been floating my name around to replace him as head bagger (I think they do this in February), even though I've told them I don't want the job. So I have the feeling that may have something to do with this.

So I have to go in and talk to him tomorrow. I'll be polite, but I won't be pushed around. If he gives me a hard time about it, I'll just say, "Well, let's call yesterday my last day, shall we?" and leave. I'm sure we'll find a way to live without the $4-5 an hour I've been making the last few weeks.

Okay. Rant over. It feels good to get that out.

Well, I had my 2nd child when I was 41 - and I gotta tell you, at first I was glad that I didn't have kids too young, but as I get older I'm starting to understand WHY people have kids young. I had to carry my 4 year old up the stairs the other night when he fell asleep before bedtime and afterwords I had to sit down for like 20 minutes to recuperate!! I am both old and out of shape, so double whammy! :scared1:

Right after I found out I was pregnant we went to FL on vacation and met up with a friend. I told him I was pregnant and he proceeded to tell me they wanted to have a 2nd child, but if his wife didn't get pregnant in the next 6 months, before she turned 38, they were going to give up because they "didn't want to end up with a Downs baby". Now, he is talking to me - 40 and pregnant - while my other child I gave birth to at 39 was playing with his son!! :confused3

I think he's just jealous you get to go on a cruise!! So if you do decide to quit, make sure talk a lot about the fantastic cruise you have planned and you would rather be cruising that working that stinking job. ;)

sorry to hear about that pat, just try and keep your cool, and do what you think is right. he sounds like a right jobsworth anyway who's got a chip on his shoulder about something.

"right jobsworth" ?? I'm trying to figure out the "American" equivalent of this colloquialism and have several unprintable candidates in mind :lmao:

Oh, I've been taking my crochet stuff with me every day, so I can work on my FE gifts between customers. All of the baggers know where we're going and they're very excited for us. They want to hear all about it when we get back. Every time I pull out my yarn and crochet hook, someone asks, "What number is that? How many left to make?" And a couple have asked me to teach them how to crochet. The people who work my shift make the job bearable.

No doubt. Why is it people like that always seem to end up in a position where they have power over others?

Hi everyone! I heard a good one the other day and wanted to share. My MIL said that putting a Beyer aspirin in your bellybutton is a cure for seasickness! She said to put a whole aspirin in your bellybutton and keep it there until is disolves. Then replace it with another one. I'm not sure how you keep an aspirin in your bellybutton :confused3

Anyone hear this before?

I feel your pain! I got my paperwork but no room number. At this point it will feel like winning the lottery when I get one.

If anyone is wondering about the rent a princess remark... All the children are invited to a Prince and Princess tea. They are each able to bring 2 adults. The only way an adult may attend is to escort a child. On the EBTA there were several of us adults that wanted to go to the tea so we asked to "borrow" a child that might have room for another adult to escort them. Say a couple had 2 children, each child being able to bring 2 adults, that is 4 adults allowed but only 2 parents... so they would let 2 other adults join them. It was so fun and we got to spend a little time with the pretty princess's and Prince's.

That sounds like so much fun! I hope they do that for our cruise. :yay:

OUR PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES TO

karentan - DH Gary's dad lost the battle against cancer. Funeral is Friday in Scotland.

Pixie Dust for Me! - Steve (my DH), developed an infection 3 weeks after surgery and I thought for sure that I was going to have to cancel the cruise. Today, I'm 99% positive that we are going to be able to go! Phew!!!

We went to the doc and the second round of antibiotics worked. I won't go into all the gory details but suffice it to say that it was disgusting, very painful and even the doc was skeptical that 2 rounds of antibiotics would do it. But DH is a trooper (ok, a whiny trooper....but still ) and he is actually well enough to return to work this week! His tummy looks so much better.

CONGRATULATIONS

Sam - Noel's DD - "So mass chaos around here today. Evidently Sam got into the law school in San Diego but they sent the letter to her Hawaii address and she never go it. So she gets a call today from Admissions since she left a message asking her status. Turns out orientation is Monday!!"

STATUS UPDATE

" Just heard from Jacqueline, she is still in hospital and hoping to be out next week.

She has been reading the thread on her cellphone but finds it difficult to type on it but she will be back on the Boards."

"Yep, surprise I'm home. Sorta. It took so long because as usual I ran into the "you don't fit the standard protocol and thus it's all in your head"-arrogance. Not fitting protocols is standard with my condition but that seems to hold little value. " - goofieslonglostsis - Jacqueline

HARD ROCK CAFE PRE-CRUISE GATHERING - BARCELONA

Hard_Rock_Cafe_Barcelona_K130_C.jpg

"I have managed to organise the same deal as we had last year on the pre-cruise HRC gathering ... basically we will get the use of a downstairs room for drinks, which we can get at the discounted price of 3 euros for a soda, and 6 euros for a local beer / glass of wine.

We need to meet up at 6:30 pm outside of the hard rock and we will have wristbands given to us for the reduced drink prices.

I also need to know how many people are planning on eating their evening meal at the Hard Rock, so I can let them know how many tables to set up for dining.

So could you please let me know if you plan to eat there. Thank you, Sarah - TotallyAngelic

LINKED DINING

MAGIC PUB CRAWL 2011

Chris&Jeremy and I (Cliffy97 - Dan & Bruce) are hosting the Magic Pub Crawl.

This will be held on: Thursday 15 September @ Starting at 13:00 - 17:00.

The Route for the crawl will be:

Diversions
Rockin Bar D
Promenade Lounge
Signals
Cove Cafe

Those who are interested would meet in one of the bars for (Traditionally a half pint pounded, I would suggest a drink of your choice) and then visit (Crawl) every other bar on the ship at least once.

As we do not have to worry about anything closing or how we are getting home, I would imagine we can spend 20-30 min at each location versus the 5-10 min you have on the monopoly pub crawl in London.

Also, Please remember that you do not have to sign up and you may join for all or part. Really the more the merrier. The sign up is really just more for us to see who willbe with us

USA CELL PHONES IN EUROPE

"On the cell phones, depending on what kind of phone you have it may not work at all in Europe. You really should talk to your cell phone provider. If you do not have GSM functionality on your current cell phone it will not work in Europe. When we lived in the states (2008) many phones did not have this, especially if you have Verizon. If you phone does have this functionality, you will need to find out what the international roaming charges are for both data and phone. It is likely to be VERY expensive given our experience. The United States is way behind on cell phone technology that can be used globally.

In the middle of the ocean, not sure you would even get a signal or which roaming charges my apply. Just my two cents, but isn't the whole point of being in the middle of the ocean to *not* be found??

Word to the wise, talk to the provider before you use the phone cause I would rather spend my hard earned cash on more FABs than email...but that just may be me." Fontabel - Amanda

FE QUESTION

"I know it's late in the day but that's how I roll Am I supposed to give gifts per person or per cabin?

I have a number of items and I was just going to put them in the FE's and then the recipients then decide who wants what. Is this right or ...?
"

- You can do it any way you choose. Per cabin, per person, one time during cruise, multiple times during the cruise, etc., etc., etc

- You can do whatever you want, just have fun.

Some people will give one thing per cabin, others will give one per person, some may give more than one per person. Personally for this cruise I am giving a minimum of one thing per person.

- I could be wrong but I don't think there are any set rules re the fe gift giving. Mostly ours are things for each person to choose what they want or the gift is for the family etc. So along the same lines as you I think.

Are you supposed to put who it is from also, like you would on a regular gift?

I have packed mine up with all the gifts per cabin in one bag then added a tag with the cabin number & who it is from. I have had gifts on my previous cruises where they haven't given their name but personally I like knowing who it is from so I always put my name on the things I give out.

- FE gifts - I give one per cabin - too much for the old lady's brain to try to figure out what's appropriate for the different age groups. Maybe I'll put my name on them and maybe not. depends on time. If you DO decide to put your name on them, computer generated return address labels are an easy method.

ROOM CHANGES ONCE ONBOARD

If you are lucky enough to get an upgrade / change of stateroom and are taking part in any of the special events, such as the Fish Extender, Secret Mickey, Candy Swap, Scrapbook exchange etc then you will need to notify everyone of your new room number as soon as possible.

Therefore I will put a whiteboard on my stateroom door 6507 as soon as we can access the rooms after boarding, please make your way there asap & leave a message stating your DIS name, old room number & new room number.

Anyone distributing gifts/exchange presents should swing by & check the board before delivering gifts to check on any room changes. I will also have a few spare printed FE lists in my FE just incase anyone forgets to bring a copy with them.

In the unlikely event that I get a room upgrade at the port, I will put my white board on my neighbours doors (Mary, Tod&Copper #6511) as there are several of us in that area of the ship. (I'll clearly mark the whiteboard as room change info so you know it is the right one & not someone's general message board). Pinky166 - Claire

WRAPPED/UNWRAPPED FOOD

"Did anyone who did the WBTA last year bring candy from the US? I'm wondering if I can pack it and bring it or if I need to buy some in Spain. And if I can bring it, does it have to be individually wrapped and/or in original packaging?"

- I wasn't on it, but DCL rules state you can only bring on food products that are sealed in the original packaging. I would interpret this to mean if, for example, you purchased a bag of the Snickers fun size bars, that you could open the bag to distribute them to individual gift bags as long as the packaging around the candy bar remains sealed.

- People from the USA brought candy from the USA on the last WBTA. I know as we had things like Peanut Butter Cups etc. They were all in their original packaging.

SHARK DIVE

Unfortunately, Jill has had to change her plans for the Shark Dive in St Maarten. I will now be coordinating for those that would still like to do it. I have three confirmed and 3 unconfirmed. Please let me know ASAP as we need to book it with at least 4 divers as soon as possible to hold the date.

Confirmed:
Nick262 Nickole
Dom262 Dom
Chirpee Paul

Those that need to confirm:
Thepicketts Damian
csgraves Connie and Dan

Please feel free to PM me with any questions.

DISNEY JEWELRY CHARM

"I was hoping to purchase a silver Disney cruise ship charm (made by Chamillia, similar to Pandora beads) that has the Disney Cruise Line symbol on one side. I've seen pictures of this charm on the DIS boards from other cruises but have no idea how to find out if it will be available on the TA cruise. Evidently, these charms are only available on the ships, not in stores. Any advice on whom to contact? Thanks!"

This shows a photo of the charm :thumbsup2

I got one of the chamilia DCL charms and it fit perfectly on my pandora bracelet.. I believe it was $40-$45 I'd have to check my receipt..

Here it is. =)

EBOOKS

"I thought I saw something on this forum some time ago about sharing of ebooks. We just got these (the eNook reader from Barnes & Noble) and I'm trying to learn how to use it. Is there a way to share books with others on the cruise?"

- I do know you can lend a book for about 2 weeks using the Kindle. I wonder if Nook has that same option?

- The Nook offers the sharing option too, just not sure how to work it. Will read up on it though.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR

September 19th is "Talk Like a Pirate Day." pirate: ARRRRR you ready for it?

WE MET ON THE INTERNET...

"I just got back from a wonderful lunch meeting with Mandy (Mandygirl), her children and Karen (Rubyblue) What a fabulous lunch.. the food was good but the company was better. I am so excited to have such wonderful new friends in my life. Can't wait to see you girls on the ship.. if not before!" TxMermaid1 - Jill

- "DITTO! Jill and Karen are absolutely WONDERFUL! We were at lunch 11:15-1:00 and I think we could have easily gone longer. (Okay, so my 14-month old didn't have her morning nap yet, but still behaved pretty well.). Had it been Happy Hour, we would have had to sample the sangria there. I was also thrilled to discover Karen/Stan are on the same flight as my girls and I out of JFK... and already knew Pat and Dennis are as well. Super excited about that as well. I walked away from lunch even MORE excited about the cruise than before! And the hotesses thought it was way cool that I was there to meet two people I had never seen in person before, and that we were all cruising. Our server asked us to come back to let her know how the cruise goes!" MandyGirl

REUNION PLANS...BEFORE WE ACTUALLY UNITE

"I cry a lot on the last day ..... saying goodbye to cruise buddies is so difficult. To make it easier we planned a reunion for this year and next weekend we are having a reunion for the DIS UK WBTA 2010 group,"

- But great that you are all interested. Gives me something to look forward to in 2012 when we have no holidays planned

- We would love to attend a reunion too

- In London? This would be a good excuse to get over there.

- O, yes, an reunion in London, that is possible to make for me. Just planning a holliday then and come over from Holland with the Euro Star.

- If we are still here count us in......

- Count me in too, would love a " get together next year. I second London.

- hi, we would like to join the reunion as well please

- we would be interested in a reunion in london, .... to relive the magic

- We'd also be interested,

- It gives me something to look forward to too, we also have no holidays planned.

- A little special request for the re-union, since we have the furthest to travel, London would be great but also any city that we can catch a flight to from Inverness would be great..... that includes

London, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol

It should be some time in September, drown our sorrows a year from disembarkation

...was waiting until we get back from the cruise first :lmao:

"WOW we certainly are an eager bunch, planning the reunion before the actual cruise

You never know we might all HATE each other and spend our two weeks on the cruise hiding in our staterooms and ordering room service so we don't accidently bump into each other..."

WDW ROOM DISCOUNT PIN

For those planning to go to WDW during the first days of december; the one thing in my favor; PIN-codes( yep multiple!). As far as I know I can book upto 3 rooms for me and friends during the same traveltime so if I can help anyone out; you know how to find me (it's 25% off value or mod and 35% off deluxe or DVC). And I happen to know that as of yesterday there was still quite a nice availability at both CBR and SSR with this PIN. goofieslonglostsis - Jacqueline

PRINCE & PRINCESS TEA

"All the children are invited to a Prince and Princess tea. It was so fun and we got to spend a little time with the pretty princess's and Prince's."

- It is not the Alice's tea party.. it is the Prince and Princess tea party. It is by invitation only. Every child will get an invite to a party for a particular day. They are not all on the same day. You must RSVP it by dropping the invite rsvp form in a box at the gift shop. They will then send a ticket to your stateroom for the people you RSVP'd. This one is held in Luminier's. The princess's will be there to visit the kids and they serve tea and treats. It is so cute to see the little ones dressed up for the occasion. They give each child a banner as they enter with Prince or Princess on it.

The Alice's tea party is a paid event I think (not sure).... It will have Alice and some other princess's at the party. It is held at Studio Sea.

Let the bidding begin...

KEEP A LOOKOUT FOR

  • Character Breakfast (based on dining time/rotation)
  • Alice's Tea Party (sign up at Guest Services I assume)
  • Prince/Princess Tea (RSVP at gift shop)
  • Late night dessert buffet
  • Outdoor cookouts

YOU MEAN IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO...

Starting in January, DCL will be adding their new OBDC (on board demerit credit) to cruise accounts.

DCL has finally realized that people feel some entitlement to disregard some rules, and the rules of choice are different for each of us. So, we'll be given a demerit "credit" to be used on our cruise.

The basic credit is 5**. That means you have 5 demerits to spend as you wish. For example, saving a seat in the theater costs you one demerit, wearing shorts to dinner costs 2 demerits, allowing children with swim diapers in the pool is 2 demerits, and so forth. The Personal Navigator will have a specific list; any ship's officer can assess demerits.

Are you paticularly bad and run out of demerits? No problem, more can be purchased at Guest Services. No more worrying about breaking the rules, we're all imperfect and this will make life onboard a little more enjoyable!

**Concierge guests and Platinum Castaway Club members will be given 10 credits initially. Also, if you transfer your reservation to an independent TA they can offer you an increased OBDC along with a higher OBC.

SANTA MARIA TOUR IN MADEIRA

I wanted to update you regarding booking this excursion on your own. Maricia is now taking reservations from individual parties for both the morning and afternoon tour. Disney did not charter the entire boat. The cost again is 30euro for adults and 15euro for kids under 11. You will pay when you get to the dock.

  • Motorway tolls are paid separately by the passenger.

THEY START YOUNG

"I woke up the other morning to find that Sarah had started putting her packing stuff on the dining room table. We had four princess dresses, four pairs of shoes to match, jewelry, tiaras, wands, gloves, and the play makeup her grandmother bought her. I sent Curt a message at work, and told him to be prepared to pack in only a carryon! And that did not include the actual CLOTHES I have started taking out for her. We are planning on doing laundry, and I have big post-it charts up laying out what we are wearing each day and packing, but still... I am sure Sarah will have over 50% of luggage space while the other three of us cram it all in. After all, she turns five the week we board the cruise, and thinks the cruise is for HER birthday! I'm going to let her wear her birthday shirt on embarkation day though so she DOES feel like it is. The excitement in her voice when she says "Mommy, do you think ARIEL will be on the Dizinee cruise with us?" just sends goosebumps.... Dang it tears - go away! I can't even type!"

I have added your thread to the cruise meet list :thumbsup2

have a great cruise!

Giddy up, Cowboy :thumbsup2

Well, I just got home from a rotten shift at work. I may be down to one job tomorrow - because at this point in my life, nobody bullies me. Oh well, it was a stinky job, anyway. I'll still have my job with the groomer, which is more fun - and pays better. Okay, pity party over now.

It's amazing in the world how many people actually get off on making other people unhappy in the workplace ... and how they relish feeling "so important" by making other workers' lives a misery. No one should have to put up with it  Sending  Pat .... hope you do what is best for you and if needs be, make sure everyone else knows why!

"right jobsworth" ?? I'm trying to figure out the "American" equivalent of this colloquialism and have several unprintable candidates in mind :lmao:

They are probably all equally appropriate :thumbsup2

And thanks once again for the excellent Summary Post Lynne ..... you are a star :worship::worship::worship:

Thankyou so much i can now stop banging my head against the wall as i have managed to print out the correct thing!

You're very welcome :)

That's awful Pat :headache: I hope all goes well today for your "chat" with him

After reading about the Desert Party Buffet in Lumiere's and it's not advertised, on our Dover Cruise last year it was the Desert Party Buffet for the teenager's in the Stack's Homecoming Prom Party. The kids went in first and then it was open house for the adults after that.

A wee tip - look out for the Homecoming Prom for the teenagers in the Vibe, on your navigators, you may find that the Desert Buffet is on the same night :thumbsup2

Most of us wouldn't even notice or glance down on the Navigators to see what the Teen activities were in the evening.
