I have signed up for the Rock Tour Excursion through DCL. However, I also looked into hiring Paul Del Mar based on some recommendations of you fellow DIS'ers. I just heard back from him and here is what he wrote:

Thank you for your email, Iv'e attached for your information our Official Taxi Tour Brochure.

My mini-bus carries 8 people. What I would ask is, if possible, if there are others that would like to do the tour I would appreciate if you would invite them to join us on the tour. Due to the high volume of passengers on the day I would like to fill the mini-bus to full capacity ( if you wish to just go on your own I understand and would still undertake the tour)

The price for the tour's are as follows: (Minimum of 4 persons)

£22.00 sterling or Euros 25.00 (standard tour) entrance tickets included. Lasting approx 1hr 30mins

£30.00 sterling or Euros 33.00 (extended tour) entrance tickets included. Lasting approx 2hrs

So first question: Does anyone know the difference between hiring him and going on the DCL excursion? He is SLIGHTLY more expensive since DCL gives us a break on the kids, but I am hoping that if we have our own minibus we can get a more personalized tour. Specifically, I am trying to limit my mom's walking so I would like to be brought as close as possible to the sights.

Second questions: Would anyone like to join us and fill up the van?

That is what he asked us to do last year. Only fair to him I think. He is very good, so I hope you get your mini bus full. You do get to see some different places that the other tour buses don't get to and he does try to get you as close as possible. It is a bit busy at some places and the taxi drivers are pretty good at moving on and leaving spaces for the other taxis.

Hi All,

I have been on the TA 2010, after that i did the Mexicaanse Rivera whit Disney. If you like you can look on our blog for the picture, the site is in dutch but you can translate it if you like.

We could try to get together in the coffee bar (it's called the Cove on the Wonder, not sure on the Magic) one afternoon, and just do our own thing with beverages and pastries, as someone suggested.

This is an excellent idea :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

O, we love that too. Making our own sandwich and go to Jardin Luxembourg in Paris for instead. And yes with a glass of wine.

We have done this too in Paris, bought baguettes with ham and cheese and a bottle of wine and sat in these beautiful gardens with a DIY lunch :thumbsup2

Hi Connie

Thanks for posting your blog .... I will check it out :thumbsup2

just tried to get onto the DCL site and its still down!
and also, dont disney normally come up with some cool graphic or something when their sites are down? its normally a bit fancier than a blue screen with a big white box in the middle!

Thanks for all your input and advice. Even though he is slightly more expensive, I think I will go with him vs. DCL because I really do want some flexibility in where we go..

Still looking for another group to go along...

Andrew and I would be interested. Can you give any details about where he is going and what you are doing? We are interested in going to the top of the Rock to see the view and I would like to get a history "lesson" in about the role of the Rock through the ages (particularly in WWII as that is what Andrew is interested in).

Hi Guys,

We seem to have been able to use our designs at spreadshirt.com without any problems. They claimed the shirts shipped today, and they were reasonably priced with lots of colors and styles to choose from. Will let you know when the come--but given we are overseas things can take a while.

Zazzle is just particularly bad about assuming you stole the image. We had another issues when we tried to make a gift for a colleague here in Macedonia. They use a Cyrillic alphabet and Zazzle thought we were stealing fraternity symbols! Seriously, I did not know the alphabet was a trademark!

Also we did not borrow any of those designs from Disney--we made them in programs at home and used the Disney font provided for us in Microsoft Paint.

Oh well. So far, spreadshirt seems to be okay. Stay tuned.

On medications, FWIW, we travel a lot internationally and have never had problems with medication in our carry on, especially in a prescription bottle with your name on it. We just came from Barcelona in May and I have three daily medications, no problems. I even had just a bottle full of vitamins and no problems, so I would not worry too much. Just my experience.

he sent me a copy of their brochure in a PDF format, but I'm not sure how to send that to you. If you want to PM me your email I can forward his email, which has the brochure attached. IT appears the first stop on either the normal or extended (we want to do the extended) is the seige tunnels.

Well, they say opposites attract - and it's certainly true in this household.

Same here!

Thanks to you both for trying so hard to organize these activities for us! C'est la vie. Just not meant to be. Maybe all the dolphins will be on vay-cay while we're there and we wouldn't have seen them anyway. So, more money for other adventures. As for the tea, I prefer coffee anyway. ;) (Always try to make the best of things!!) We could try to get together in the coffee bar (it's called the Cove on the Wonder, not sure on the Magic) one afternoon, and just do our own thing with beverages and pastries, as someone suggested.

No worries, just a shame they wouldn't do it.

Like your idea of meeting up in Cove Cafe though. :thumbsup2 Maybe once everyone has booked the other tastings, champagne girls etc we can work out a date best for everyone. :thumbsup2

Can't believe all the good info swirling about on this forum! DH and I have a nighttime ritual of trying to catch up--I say trying because it's impossible, lol!

For you foodies, here is what we are doing on the 9th in Barca: http://www.cookandtaste.net/

I have been on this ship 2x before yet never entered Palo--what is your fave for brunch and/or dinner? We have ressies for both; sadly no tea.

Same here!

I think this is a good idea.

It's going to be verry bad wether here. Thunder and Lightning and hard wind.
And there can be hailstones falling down.
I don't like this and then alone in my home. (My son lives near Amsterdam and I in Arnhem)
Hope it get over soon.

From what I remember we went first drove over across the airport runway, which is so strange to do so have your cameras ready, and had a look at the border crossing to Spain.

We drove through town and went to Europa Point. We also stopped at a huge Gun and mini museum about said gun.

We went right up to the top where the buses don't go and there are fantastic views all the way down to the ship. Great photos.

Now I begin to get muddled!! We went to where the apes are, though you see them all over, and you can get out and have photos taken with them. Siege tunnels and the war tunnels. Again, apes a plenty. I also think there is another spot where you can photo the apes.:confused3 He leaves you to go into the 2 tunnels on your own, but there is lots of information there for you to read.

All the time Paul is talking about the history and adding lots of interesting bits and pieces. He is a bit of a history buff. He grew up in Gibraltar. Plenty of time for lots of great photos as long as the cloud isn't down. He did suggest a lunchtime set off to us because there is more chance of a clear view and also it isn't as busy.

Thanks for verifying that, Jill! I was doubting my memory....:upsidedow

Sounds like Capt. John got off with those of us who disembarked on the 8th! It will be interesting to see who is still there this time.

Personally, I'm hoping for some new movies!!!!! popcorn::

I hope they have some more movies too.... I have seen most of those now... are there any premEars while we are onboard?

.

Hi Everyone!

Booked today! Looking forward to this trip so much! It is going to be me and my DS (4), poor husband has a new job and cannot take the time off. Looking forward to meeting everyone! Now to catch up on all the info....:goodvibes

Welcome ....

We did this back in May on the EBTA for the same reason. I had my 83 yr old dad and didn't want him to be stressed or rushed. We really enjoyed our taxi driver, he was the only Englishman driving.... He did a wonderful job. I would do this again over the DCL one anyday.... good luck!
