What exactly is the goodnight kiss at the magic kingdom? when does it happen? where should I be to experience it?

It is referring to when the park is closing for the night. Be anywhere on Main street and you will hear the announcement.

They used to do a little flourish from the castle along with the announcement, but I am not sure they actually do that anymore.

Yes, it's a gentle announcement of wishing everyone well as they depart.

I have never heard of this… I first experienced a kiss from Mickey and Minnie in their pajamas during the 24 Hour Parties.
They were standing above us and throwing kisses to wave goodbye goodnight from the train station

Yes is has happened after Covid, and still happens nightly. It does vary some nights but the average is about 30 minutes after MK officially closes for the night.

I usually sit on a bench in the hub for it. Security or other castmembers may try to move you along, just say you are waiting to see the Kiss Goodnight.

Disney Transport is approximately 60 minutes after posted closing.

You should be fine as buses from the MK Resort bus loop, and boats run from MK to Ft. Wilderness for a minimum of 1 hour after park closing.

If you wait, it should actually be much less crowded. Transportation will definitely still be running.

Disney won’t leave their resort guests stranded. If the boat has stopped running, there will be a bus. Depending on how late you are, the bus might take guests to several resorts, but you’ll get to FW.

Related question... does this happen on party nights (e.g. MVMCP)? If so, is it 30 minutes after the party?

Not sure if they still do it, but historically the Kiss has also been done at 60 minutes after Park close in addition to the 30 minute one.

I have always said it takes a hard-core WDW fan to appreciate the Kiss.lol
