I am particularly worried as DD and I are visiting the London American Embassy on Thursday ... probably not the best timing in the world.:scared1:

When I was in the car a minute ago listening to the radio, it said all embassies are on heightened security, so you'll be fine :thumbsup2

Also the price of the WBTA has dropped a little bit more..not alot, but still every little helps.

Thanks for the top tip Michelle, we just got dcl to re-do our reservation at the cheaper price :thumbsup2

The £30 saving will go towards my wine package :lmao::lmao:

Are they having the 5k on Castaway Cay while we are there? I hadn't heard that one! Would love to know! Thanks!:goodvibes

The 5K is not an 'official' activity, but it is headed by a volunteer crew member. They usually post it in the Navigator the night before Castaway Cay whether that option is available, but from what I hear, it is run more often than it is not. Sometimes you get a certificate for running, sometimes not  I wish Disney would make it more official :thumbsup2

Here's a thread from the boards on it http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2698873&highlight=castaway+cay+5k

Mary, how do you do this? Should I call my TA and ask if she can do this? (I'm new at this :) )

Hi Dawn

We priced it as a new reservation first on the dcl website to see the difference, then called them to get it arranged.

Have you got a US travel agent for your cruise or a UK travel agent?

The price we got was using the Uk residents discount code MEO which you put in the first booking screen when choosing your cruise on the DCL website.

Hopefully you have a UK TA who can re-do it for you. DCL cancelled our previous ressie, re-applied the money to the new booking and swapped our room number over.

Did you book your flights and cruise separately?

Mine only changed by £2 so not really worth doing. :confused3

Thanks Mary

Our TA is in Canada (we used to live there, and she's a dear friend but is fairly new to this... I wasn't sure if she knew how to do this). I'll ask her tomorrow, just to see :)

Thanks for the info Karen...but I wonder if they will have it on the return trip since we have such limited time? They had it on the trip over last year at 10:30 am but we don't get there til after 11:00, do we?

Noel - I've not heard of any problems with musty/moldy stateroom odors on the Wonder. I'm sure it's possible, especially if something was spilled on a carpet and not cleaned properly. I think some people are more sensitive to those kinds of smells, too.

I am particularly worried as DD and I are visiting the London American Embassy on Thursday ... probably not the best timing in the world.:scared1:

Try not to worry Sarah, I am sure that will be one of the safest places in the whole country at the moment.

The AF Base here has stepped up their security. We're at "Bravo" level - which, oddly, is the 3rd level of security. We've been on "Alpha" for as long as I can remember, so I guess that was the 2nd security level. No idea what they'd call the lowest level.

Anyway, they're checking all ID's and taking a number of other safety measures. Makes going to work on Base a little more inconvenient, but I'm good with it.

If they're doing all that here in the middle-of-nowhere-Georgia, I'm willing to bet the Embassies are going to be pretty careful, too. They're not going to take any chances with the crazies. I think they're doing a much better job with intelligence than they did in the past.

Hello all,

For those that have done this cruise before, what money did you have to exchange for each port? I know the caribbean is the US dollar but I am not sure if I should look into both Euros and Pounds and not sure about Portugal at all.

TIA for your help.

I've just priced it up again on the DCL site & we will save £46! I will call them later & get them to transfer my room number over. :thumbsup2 All the more money for the bar bill! :dance3:

Thanks Michelle!! :flower3: :worship:

Just as a matter of interest Dawn, have you priced it using the UK residents discount, it was £400 cheaper for the 2 of us :thumbsup2

Hi Nickole

With regard to the different ports, the currencies accepted are:-

Barcelona - euros
Gibraltar - euros and UK £
Madeira - euros
St Maarten - euros and US $
Tortola - US $

So you'll only need some US $ and euros in currency :thumbsup2

Claire do you have the UK freephone number for DCL? I was on the phone for at least 30 mins sorting out the reservation, would hate to think it was on your phone bill :scared1: If not, give me a shout and I'll give it to you :)

No I don't have that number, we get free calls to the US so it doesn't cost anything anyway. :thumbsup2

Can I have it anyway please, just incase our phone call package changes in the future.

Just an extra here. Gibraltar has it's own currency, the Gibraltar Pound. It is the same as the UK pound, but you don't want it as change as you can't use it anywhere else! So, ask for Euro change(or UK money), or use your card. One of us Brits will always buy some back off you if you are stuck with some(not Gibraltan though;))

Glad I helped you Ladies save a few more £'s

The UK freephone number for DCL? I was on the phone for at least 30 mins sorting out the reservation, would hate to think it was on your phone bill :scared1: If not, give me a shout and I'll give it to you :)
The free number is on the homepage of the DCL website its: 0800 028 3179
That's the one I use.

I got my email confirmation that all has gone through at the reduced price and we still have the same cabin so very happy here.

Ok, so the new price will save me £76 BUT Virgin won't apply the new discount.

Any suggestions?

I've emailed my TA. I ran a search this morning and found that there are some oceanview rooms (with restrictions) available for less than we got our inside for. If we can go with this, it would be great :)

But now... I'm contemplating making the jump from an inside to a verandah as a surprise for my husband... does this sound nuts? They also have some of the restriction verandahs available... It would be about £600 more than we paid originally for an inside. The only reason I'm considering it is that it would give us a quiet space away from the two kids at night. It does seem like alot of money... I don't know whether or not it will be worth it?

Help?

i've got a second reservation on hold, and i'm waiting for shoreside services to open so i can transfer the money and room number from one reservation to the new one. saves me £32. any beer money helps.....

holy moly! just checked out the EBTA thread and they've got loads of stuff planned! and a crazy detailled google spreadsheet!
but our front page does look better though ;)

Have you just got the cruise booked through Virgin? If so then i suggest cancelling it & booking direct with DCL. If you've got flights too then you're probably stuck with it at the price you bought it at. :sad2:
