Sensitive question. Anyone come back from WDW and was sick?

We were there in early December 2020. We flew with N95s and face shields, rented a car, prepared most of our own meals, when we ate out we only would eat outdoors, wore surgical masks AND faces shields in the parks. We did NOT get sick. We had a non-refundable DVC and didn't want to lose the money so we went with the condition that we wear face shields (my condition).

I felt safe with all the measures Disney has put in place along with the addition of the face shields (shields that didn't fog up!!!). For sure, COVID is everywhere including the parks. I don't know if I'd risk it now with the variants on the rise. Course, we aren't going back any time soon regardless of COVID and there would have to be a major return to almost normal before we'd consider going back (some sort of FP, after hours, entertainment and more outdoor dining). Certainly, if perks associated with staying on-site do not return, we would not stay on site again.

I also just wanted to say that generally guests were good with mask compliance and social distancing but it was crowded through pinch points and I would have not felt comfortable without the face shields. (We also got surgical grade masks that block 98% of particles. )

I remain fairly convinced that if you follow all measures and take precautions, it's less likely that you would catch the virus at Disney than say mask-less at a grocery store or gathering with extended family in an small enclosed space.

We take all the precautions, mask, quarantine, test and follow the rules. On a side note, for all of my stress over visiting Disney, my husband and DD got Covid from my DD's SIL having a party and spreading it through two houses. Four of us in a house of 6 never got it, such a strange disease
In my area the worst spread is coming from similar environments that you describe - they have even dubbed it "Living Room Spread".

I went three times in 2020, once pre-pandemic in February and September and November. Not one of the 12 people got sick. The cleaning and physical distancing protocols seemed to be sufficient.

I have been three times since Disney reopened (flying each time from Ohio). Once in late August on a solo trip, once in October with my husband and son, and then again for 10 days over Christmas with my entire family of 5. For our trip in December, it was definitely the most crowded and I felt that it was difficult to social distance in the parks which did make me slightly nervous. However, no one got sick from that trip or the other two and we ate inside many times. We understood there was a risk, but after my first solo trip in August, I felt that Disney was taking the best precautions possible and I felt that mask compliance was very good. Obviously it is a risk to travel there (or anywhere), and everyone has to determine whether it is a risk worth taking for themselves and their family. I am in the process of planning a trip for next month and am hoping that my luck continues. Safe travels to all who decide to go and enjoy.

Party of three flew to Disney and stayed for 6 days. We have been home two weeks and no one is sick. We just followed the rules that Disney and the Airports have in place. I did feel more comfortable at Disney than in stores and gas stations locally.

Saw a tv report out of OH where a MAW participant tested positive for Covid after her Disney trip.
MAW?
We were there January 2020 for marathon weekend and I got sick after, all the COVID symptoms, but don’t know for sure what it was.

Also went in October 2020 for nine days, family of six, took our camper so no flying and no hotel. No one sick. We swam in the pool and went to HS one day, ate at California Grill and Sci-Fi, and went mini golfing a couple times. So didn’t do too much in crowds, mainly hung out in our own space and did virtual school for a change of scenery.

Have a quick Universal trip scheduled for May 2021, a longer one for August 2021(driving), and quick WDW trip scheduled for June 2021. May and June will be flying, first time since all this started, so I’m a little hesitant about that part...but everything else I feel they are doing an excellent job, this coming from a germophobe...it’s the airport that scares me :scared1:

Nope been there three times since pandemic actually and I’ll be legit honest I went last March before this illness came and was sick but bounced back in two days.

Another purely speculative post. We went in early January 2020. Waiting at the airport for the flight home, something hit me like a freight train. Took me weeks to shake it all off. We went back in early March. We went back home the day before the parks closed. Everyone fine. That was pre-mask times but we were diligent with handwashing. Still remember hearing, "please fill all available space" from the CMs. Me: "I don't think so." :)

My immediate family went to WDW over Christmas. My sister's family and my parents all got together Christmas Day. Guess which group all ended up with Covid by New Years? Hint: not the family that went to WDW

That's the logic I'm using for following through with our upcoming trip. You can't go to the store or Costco and not see someone skirt the rules with their nose out or something. I feel pretty confident based on what I've read in other folks reports, that isn't the case at Disney. So we've decided to go ahead and go in April.

Thank you to all that replied to this thread with their experiences!

DH got sick at WDW at the end of January 2020. He was so sick we thought he had the flu (even though he had a flu shot). Got tested for flu and it was negative. He was in bed for two weeks straight - fever, chills, body aches, the works. I made him sleep in the spare bedroom the entire time. No one else got it in the house. Now we wonder if he could have had Covid...
We were there Jan 2020 and everyone in our party got a weird sickness like this too. We all wonder if we had early cases of COVID.

Statistically there are people in the parks every single day with COVID. I’m sure some people have caught it there but pretty much impossible to calculate.

Usually I just read these and move on, not commenting. I saw where you are from and figured I'd say something. My daughter lives in Tacoma and has been here visiting 3 times since January 2020. She flies Alaska air and while having some anxiety about flying in general her flights have been uneventful. If you stay on property and don't leave, you will probably feel at home with all the COVID restrictions in the bubble. My point is managing your expectations. Outside the bubble my daughter was kind of freaked out with restaurants being open to 100% capacity, no mask requirement, and basically things if not normal, mostly more relaxed than she is used to. My wife and daughter did go to DS a couple of times and obviously their environmental control was more to what she was used to. The last time she was here was Christmas time, flew home and had to get tested before she could go back to work. Negative test result for the RONA. It's not as scary here as most people think so relax and enjoy!

Thanks for the comment. I have a coworker living in Florida atm so I'm prepared for the stark differences when outside the bubble. We plan to stay inside the bubble the whole time except for the one time I'm meeting said coworker for a work dinner while down there. We'll all be getting tested as soon as we get home as well.
