Hi everyone,

Hope this is the right place to post this.....my friend asked me to check CHRISTMAS DAY for her at any resort for a studio. Well, much to my surprise, there are a lot of resorts available. Now, she is an acquaintance, but not a great friend whom I would give my points to. She has no problem paying for the room....what do you suggest I charge her for a deluxe studio at Wilderness on Christmas night??? I want to be fair and dont want to rip her off, but at the same time I would be using my points ....OH, it costs 24 points for me to book it !!!!!!!!!!

Thanks SO much !!!!

:)

Well, the going rate for rentals is $12 to $14 per point right now. Since she's your friend, maybe $10 to $11 a point. I mean, it is Christmas Day, and since she asked you, rather than you inviting her, I'm not sure I'd go too much under the normal rental pricing.

I would probably go with $275 if she is just an "acquaintance". $250 if she truly is a friend. I'm sorry, but I don't give my points away to anyone. I will give a friend a deal, but if I can use the points myself, they pay. The only people we have "treated" is my parents, but they came with us, which I will never do again ; but that's another story for another thread.

If you bought a typical DVC and are NOT financing the deal, then your points cost you an effective $7-8 per point. If you financed, then the price is much higher.

Most rentals are in the $10-13 range with $11 these days as the new standard. The prices are higher or lower based upon location and how long the points are good for.

Thus, I would suggest an even $10pp as it is fair to both parties. If she is a really good friend, then you can lower it to $8 or $9pp.

And paid up front NOW when you make the reservation, no refunds and no hard feelings if her plans fall through.

I'd book her a room and charge her what you are going to need per point if you decide you wanted to use those points - $14. A close friend I'd do different. An acquaintance, no way. I'd rather rent to a stranger than to an acquaintance. A stranger is easy to dodge when they want to complain to you about their room not being ready until six or no housekeeping - an acquaintance you are risking years of "well, that one time I rented points from you, we got there and the bed wasn't at all comfortable and our view was lousy."

This.
  • Paid in advance
  • No cancellations
  • No changes
  • No refunds
  • I have no control over location, view, etc, etc. You get what you get.
The price should not be a sticking point, especially if you point out the rack rate BillPA posted for you. You're doing her a big favor -- giving her a big break on cost, and giving up points you could otherwise use.
