Does anyone remember when the mainstreet candy store sold See's candy,boy i loved that .It was really a special treat to go there and buy it,yum!

OMG you must have read my mind I was going to post this after i read the favorite candy thread!!!!!!!!!!! YES!! Everytime I walk down Main Street I keep hoping they would bring it back. Kind of like when you watch an old movie everytime it is on and hope the ending changed even though logically you know it did not.

Actually I was quite surprised to see it (20yrs ago) SEES would never ship to the east coast because they felt their quality would be comprimised. That is the reason they told me they would never open up shop here either.

Believe it or not this past Christmas, they had a cart selling the prepackaged candy in one of our malls in Mass. I think it was a test but for most people if you were not familiar with the company, then you would not know enough to buy it.

Bella--they've been doing this the last couple years here at our local mall where I live (near Dallas). The only thing I can halfway stand is the Thin Mint Krispys (I think that's what they are called) and the Mocha Krispys. Mostly because that's what they hand out as free samples by the bucketload and I got hooked on them.

But with the other stuff..doesn't even come close to comparing with Godiva.

OMG, I adore See's Candy. It's one treat from childhood that I still enjoy. My family would go to the shop, I'd always get a sample and help pick out the candies. My favorites are dark covered Bordeaux and caramellows. In fact I just finished the last pieces in a box a couple days ago. I get them shipped to me from their factory.

Yes, they aren't Godiva's, Belgian chocolates or like other high end brands. See's Candies are good quality, fresh, old-fashioned filled chocolates and novelties. I can appreciate them for what they are. It's like being able to enjoy both a great homemade cake and one made by a top pastry Chef say at V&A's.

I have never had See's candy but have heard ALOT about it, so I am going to order some from their website and try it for the first time

Being a west coast gal, I grew up on the stuff....LOVE it...and IMHO, it is better than Godiva (although Godiva does have some flavors I like that Sees doesn't carry).
My favorite is the Bordeaux ...YUM!!
Our Costco now sells gift certificates for them......at a discount rate

Do not want to start a debate See's Vs Godiva but See's is just better. Did you know Godiva is made by the Campbell's soup company? We have an outlet store where they sell it dirt cheap in Maine. I got a 2lb of Godiva for 15.00!! This is first quality and in code. It is at the Peppridge Farm outlet store in our area. I have gotten it in all sizes and saved it for hostess gifts. It really makes a great splash. I have tried it many, many times and darn it but it does not come close to SEE"S. I wish it did because I at least have access to it.

By the way, if you are ordering from SEE"S be sure and order the candy bars. We used them for a fund raiser at school once. One of the mothers kept them at her house and we would go and buy them from her when we needed a fix. By the time the event happened, the mothers had bought all the SEE"S before it could be sold. Be sure to try the one with pieces of crunch (more like heath bar not like rice crispys).

When it comes to candy that tastes good however, there is only one name and it is a four letter word SEE's (that is if you don' t count the apostrophe).

Better than Godiva-ooh, hmmm, I don't know. We get Godiva
in our "stockings" at Christmas too and I'm rather partial to it.
See's IS wonderful. As long as it's not M&M's...I'm happy. And
to tell the truth-I'd eat M&M's some days! LOL!

I agree, Sees is better than Godiva!!! I discovered Sees when I lived in San Diego many moons ago and when I was pregnant with DS living in Italy (1996) I had a two pound box of truffles (my favs) shipped to me (and I ate the whole box all by myself!!) I was in heaven.

I have a closet full of Godiva I only wish I had some SEE'S and I would show everyone by doing a huge taste test right now!!! I got some Lindt in there too but funny thing is I am NEVER tempted by them. I guess that is a good thing I do not have easy access to SEE"S

A friend brought me See's Candy whey they returned from CA a few years ago. I love chocolate and this is by far the best I've ever had. They now sell See's during the holidays in the malls here in GA.

We have a friend that sends See's peanut brittle for Christmas every year. I know what you're thinking..."I don't like peanut brittle". Neither do I! But this stuff is unbelievable
It does have that "heath bar" or toffee taste to it that is just fantastic.

They had that at Florida Mall in Orlando two years ago. I don't know if they had it last year - that's when I had my emergency appendectomy in Orlando and didn't get to do much.

People ask me all of the time if I miss California - See's is one of the things that I really miss. My company had a quantity discount and I could buy most of the prepackaged stuff at a really nice discount. I always stock up when I go back to CA.

I think See's is starting to open up stores. I'm from the midwest and I know of a major furniture store that has sold it as long as I can remember. And here, they have a temp store in the mall with the permenant store is being built!

Five of my high school friends came to visit me in CA, and I took them to one of the bigger See's stores. When I told the salesperson that they had never had See's, she kept giving them samples until they were so full they couldn't eat another one.

They each bought pounds and pounds of the stuff. It was shortly before Easter, but any excuse would have worked! And they were all allowed to use my discount.

JK, but seriously....I love the: nougats, caramels, caramels with almonds, the molasses chips, the bordeouxs, the buttercreams, the blueberry and the lemon truffles, the caramel patties, the krispies, the lollipops (I just gave a whole bunch of these to my neighbors with the It's a Boy stickers on them to pass out to visitors- I love the butterscotch), the peanut brittle, the scotchmellows.....shall I go on???????????
