See's Candy

I thought I hated dark chocolate until I tasted See's dark chocolates. It's really just the Hersey dark chocolate that I can't stand. The See's (and other brand's like Godiva) dark chocolates are divine.

mmmmm....See's - it's too easy to get here! DH buys the GCs from Costco at the holidays - then we go 1/2 block to See's and buy what he needs for his group at work. Mom insists on going with me before Easter & Christmas - she wants her sample too!

My Dad would go into See's once in a while and buy 2 pieces of candy and tell the girls "this'll be a cash transaction"!

I have to pick up Sees every time I'm at DL! Absolutely love it.

Beats Godiva hands-down as far as I'm concerned.

Yuck! This lady gave me some one time and it was so bad that I had to spit it out.
That is not my kind of candy...... just give me chocolate. :)

 I LOVE See's candies! I wish they sold them at WDW (or in NYC, for that matter). My friends in college who were from California used to talk about how much they missed it, and I never saw what the big deal was until one of them brought back about 20 big boxes...wow!!! Great stuff!

And the free sample you get at their stores is nice too...:teeth:

 Oh, how I miss my See's! I was raised in Ca. and we had it for every holiday. A couple of months ago we had to fly to LAX, and on the way back, we bought a box of their lollipops. hahaha!

I'm grateful for the kiosks during the holidays here in Dallas, but darn it, I just wanna be able to make my own box!

Oh, another favorite is Ethel M's. I love their little toffee bite thingies ::yes:: and I think I'll have to pick some up next week when I'm in Vegas! WOO!

See's is YUMMY - especially those lemon truffles. I'm spoiled - there's a See's store 10 minutes away from me. We send See's to friends and relatives during the holidays. I've always wondered if they really enjoyed it. Judging by these posts, I'm going to assume they really do.

I am just wondering if anyone here knows how much the discount is when you buy the gift certs in Costco? I know my aunt goes to some store in S. S.F. where they make it and becuase she was in the service she gets a discount BUT if the discount is the same with the G/C then that would save her a trip.

IF Costco has a deal with SEE's then I am going to e mail them and tell them to get us some assorted boxes here on the east coast.

At our Costco, oh for the past year or so, they sell two 1-pound gift certificates to See's (in this HUGE packaging to prevent shop lifting I guess) for just under $19. Which is a fantastic deal, considering a pound of See's candy is about $13.50. I plan on getting some for Christmas to hand out to neighbors, friends (or keep on for myself! Hi, I'd like a pound of scotchmellows please!). The certificates are in the candy aisle at our Costco. Now, they may just sell these where there are See's candy stores in the vicinity, I don't know.

You know what other deadly thing I saw at my Costco on Wednesday?? Almost two pounds of Harry and David's Moose Munch....oh my gawwwwwwwwwwwwdddddddddddd.....I resisted, but have been thinking about it every since.

Thanks Alice 28, I will check with my aunt b/c I think this is cheaper than she pays.

I grew up on See's Candy (in CA), but we can't get it here. So when I go west, I get my See's fix.

I have found a really good alternative, though, that has the virtue of being much less expensive than See's or almost anyone. Trader Joe's has GREAT chocolate. They have gigantic, dark and milk Belgium chocolate bars with and without almonds, chocolate covered raisins, heath bar type chocolates - a lot of stuff. Until recently they were carrying the best chocolate covered caramels I've ever eaten. (Especially when they were fresh they were incredible.) Apparently the supplier of these caramels raised their prices and so TJ's is negotiating for a different (?) vendor. Hope they are successful.::MinnieMo

I have never had See's Candy, but I have seen them on Unwrapped before!! :)

I love those awful rectangular hard suckers they have in Dark chocolate, chocolate and caramel. I would kill for some of those right about now!

And, I too think they are better than Godiva. More traditional combinations, less upscale hype and cheaper. But, above all they do not compromise their quality at all and still maintain a decent price.

Oh well, without access you can't overindulge! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_3_16.gif' border=0></a>

And yet another CA native missing her See's candy. We went home this summer and DH bought me a 3 LB box of Mint truffles both milk chocolate and white chocolate.

Those are my ALL TIME FAVORITE CANDIES EVER!!!!!

We also bought a small box as a gift for a friend at work and 4 individual pieces of divinity for another coworker. (We had already picked up something for her). Then since yet another coworker had picked up our car from the airport and delivered it back to the airport for us, we bought him a 1 lb box of assorted chocolates. He had never heard of See's either but his wife had. When she saw the box, she told him it had too many calories for him.

I took in a couple pieces of MY mint truffles to let the other try it and they agreed with me.

When I lived in England for three years, my mom would send us a box of Nuts & Chews each year. It was like having a piece of home every Christmas. I wish they would get a store in FL, in Orlando would be great, but Panama City would be even better.

For those who really miss See's, try their website:

See's Candies

You can purchase most anything online, but somethings you have to call to order - namely Mint Truffle  .

I agree with Disney_1derland - See's is MUCH BETTER than Godiva. Give me See's anyday over Godiva.::yes:: ::yes::

I absolutely love See's candy.
A customer sent a box to work a few years ago as a gift, and ever since then I have been hooked!
Imagine how happy I was when they had a temporary store set up in my mall last year...with free samples to boot!
I felt sorry for all those people who were walking by without stopping...I can't imagine that many people in Delaware ever tried their candy.
I sure hope See's made enough profit to set up the store again this year...If not, I am going to be depressed! :(

Disney_1derland, did you know that the lollipops also come in Chocolate-raspberry, cafe au lait, and vanilla, too? When we picked up that box at LAX, I think DD made sure to eat all of the cafe au lait ones. lol!

DH travels a lot for work, and he goes back to San Diego at least once every couple of months. If there's a special holiday around the times that he's there, he'll bring back a 2 lb. box of nuts and chews for us. :cloud9:

Oh yeah, is anyone else a molasses chips freak like me?

 ME! While I love the nuts & chews, probably what I buy most often is a box of the molasses chips. I think it's 8 oz...I always get the assorted cause I love the milk & dark equally.

I need to stop reading this thread.....tomorrow I am heading to the general vicinity of the mall and I think I may be heading into See's!! Can't......resist........power......of.......See's.........

And I agree- way better than Godiva. Godiva is too rich or something for me....See's is just heavenly upscale candy without being too uppity or something.

Okay - just rub it in. Now you've reminded me of how much I miss Trader Joe's too!

Here are the prices for the Quantity Discount Program:

Gift-#---Description---------Price---DiscountPrice
318 1 lb. Assorted Chocolates $13.20 $9.25
319 2 lb. Assorted Chocolates $26.40 $18.50
320 3 lb. Assorted Chocolates $39.60 $27.75
321 5 lb. Assorted Chocolates $66.00 $46.25

The quantity discount is only available at certain See's stores - there's one in Redwood City, CA (that I know first hand) on El Camino. The prices are the same for the nuts and chews, dark, and milk chocloate boxes.

So a one pound box would be $9.25 instead of $13.20. That's a nice discount.

I was able to buy at the quantity discount price because my employer made that available to us. I think most of the larger employers in CA do that. I know I had to show a company badge or a paycheck stub to qualify, a business card was not sufficient. Our badge did not have the company name on it (for security reasons) but every one recognized the familiar blue and gold stripe so I never had a problem.

Yes, those are yummy! I haven't found anything like them elsewhere.
