If you have a clear backpack going through security do you even have to open it for them then? Anyone who has done this does it make things a little quicker? I've only had my belly bag in the past and opening it to go through was never a big deal - but I have never taken a backpack before but with a 7 month pregnant belly I think a backpack might just be easier.

I don't know about clear backpacks as I'm not even sure if I have ever seen one - but my guess would be (based on observations) that they will have you open it up for their inspection. I would say be prepared to open it up.

Again, I offer thanks to Osama for making me wait in that ridiculously long line, and taking precious time out of my WDW park visits. As if we needed one more reason to go after those folks - we can add wait time at entrances to WDW parks to the list.

If they can clearly see all the contents of the backpack, you may not have to open it. But they may ask you to open up something that's inside your backpack. For example, last visit almost every guard wanted to look into the soft slip case that holds my digital camera to see what was in it.

Do you really need a backpack? If you have little ones and a stroller, I can understand this - but if not - cargo pockets may be the way to go!

We always used to use a good sized fanny pack - but I hate waiting in those long lines at opening for the bag check.

I now use a bottle strap for my Brita bottle, and a Passporter Pouch (wallet type thing on a string around my neck) for my park passes, pen, money, etc. DH wears cargo shorts, and he has room in the pockets for our small digital camera, a couple of disposable ponchos, etc. We can go through the parks like this from opening till closing - no wait, and no worry about losing things!!

Of course, we do stay on property, so getting back to the resort to change clothes, etc, is just a quick monorail or bus ride away.

I don't know why Disney bothers - you can fit just as much into those cargo pockets or more than a small fanny pack! But we've been told repeatedly - even the Pouch is not a bag (even though it is almost as big as a small fanny pack - if it has a belt, it's a bag, if it has a lanyard, it's a wallet!)

We carried a clear backpack and packed everything inside in ziploc bags and all the guard did was turn it and look. He even held it up and said for all to hear that it was his favorite color!!:p
