We are in need of some outdoor security cameras and are hoping for advice on which types to buy. We need 3 cameras and one doorbell camera, and hope to take advantage of the sales this weekend. We aren’t looking for a monitoring service, and we’re ok with battery operated systems. What budget-friendly cameras would you use? Are there any great deals on these systems that you know of? Anything to steal clear of?

Thanks for any help!

We have a Ring Doorbell (battery) and a hardwired camera with spot lights that works pretty good. I like the Ring Service, if you need that many devices then you will have to sign up for the Home Standard service which is $100/year. You will want to make sure you can hardwire the cameras, or get the devices with replaceable batteries which can we swapped out. Our Doorbell camera has to have the whole unit recharged and can't swap the batteries which is a pain. But hardwire devices are best, like replacing an outdoor floodlight with one of these cameras and floodlights. The App work pretty good, and you can setup your areas of "monitoring" and change the sensitivity of the camera.

We are devoted Ring fans. We had one incident where the Ring alerted us (a kid was trying to get in to our SUV in the driveway), woke DH up immediately, then the video was able to help prosecute the guy for thefts in cars in our neighborhood.

We have Blink cameras for the last few years and no issues. I don't use the paid cloud service, I just use a USB drive plugged into the main control thingy and save clips to there.
