Secrets & Little Known Facts about rides

Just found this on Wikipedia & wanted to share. So cool-I wish they made this instead of Camp Minnie-Mickey! I never noticed the dragon on the DAK logo before.

i heard when I was at disney this past august that they might put this in. but instead of replacing the campe minni-mickey, add this land. they told us that there is room for more lands there. so lets hope!!!

We got to ride in the front of the monorail October of 2008. I'd done it before, but it was the first time I noticed an owl over the monorail entrance of the Contemporary. I asked the driver if it had always been there, and she told me that it was always there and it was to scare other birds away so they don't come into the resort.

I'm surprised at this. I had always heard that Disney tends to hang onto everything. There's a lot of things that get somehow repurposed.
Depends on what it is. A lot of old hotel fixtures and office equipment gets sold at Disney's Property Control to CMs and vendors -- often for outrageously low prices. I've seen everything from arcade games and widescreen TVs to vehicles (both working and props) and even parade floats back there for sale to the highest bidder. And, AFAIK, it's not open to the public. Sorry.

For anyone who has not seen it, there is a Modern Marvels episode about Disneyworld. It is full of all kinds of cool info. I highly recommend it. It's available at blockbuster.com and NetFlix if you don't want to wait for the rerun.

Personally, I think it's cool that the main structure of the AK tree is an offshore drilling platform.

The phone is still there...it's in the Chapeau at the end of Main Street, off to the side near Tony's. The phone is in the last section of the store on the outside wall (near the wall of hats on display). We just saw it in November.

It was still there on Jan 25th when we bought our mouse ears

There are 2 big vendors on eBay - one is Mouse Surplus in Haines City, which also has a warehouse/store you can visit. We went in December - cool place!! They had a LOT of furniture/decor from WDW resort rehabs, and it was super cheap. You literally could have furnished your entire home with all the stuff they had. Condition varies (the stuff is used) but it's a very neat place to poke around.

I think they still have the prop plane from Killimanjaro Safaris and a ride vehicle from Horizons... or at least they did a few weeks ago.

I have one to share, its just a minor one and probably well known.

If you enter the shop in MK called "Sir Mickeys" and look up at the ceiling you'll see the giant from "Mickey and the Bean Stock" lifting up the roof and peering in. The kids always liked that one.LOL

What is the 2nd big vendor on Ebay?

I didn't know that - that's cool!

The track for RRC was built first and the building was built around it.
When the TOT was being built it was struck by lightning
The antique mining equipment in BTM is genuine and cost over $300,000
Some of the tiles in the mosaic in Cinderella's Castle are real gold

Not so much a ride secret, as storyline related. Pay attention to the portraits in the HM attic scene. In each successive picture, "Constance" is wearing one additional pearl necklace... 5 total... one for each husband. :rolleyes1

That Hussy :rotfl2: I will be looking for that, thanks! Love pointing out new things to the kids and husband. They think I am soooo smart ;)

I know there is a second part of this thread and does anyone have the link for it? Also, I have another reason why the sidewalks are red in the MK (quortesy of Imagineering Field Guides.)

~The sidewalks are red because they want ot enhance the green in the grass- green and red are opposites on the color wheel enhancing the green.

I thought that was clever but the red carpet one is pretty neat too. :thumbsup2

I don't think there's a second part of this thread. I started this one a couple of weeks ago but there have been similar threads in the past. Just do a DIS search of the word "Secret" and that'll probably reveal it. Thanks for the info about the red sidewalks! :thumbsup2

I was reading a trip report by a DISer (girlbomb), and at one point she mentioned sticking around after the preshow in Haunted Mansion to hear the whispering voices at the end of the stretching room. That got me to thinking that there are probably MANY of these little known treasures in our favorite rides.
What exactly do they say??? I've never heard this before!!!:bitelip: :bitelip:

Of course I'm one of those who is always first out of the room...

My apologies if this has already been asked. I'm only on page 4....;)

That's what got me to start the thread! I can't remember if someone answered that or not. Point it out if you find that answer, would you?
