Secrets & Little Known Facts about rides

Well... yes and no....

Thanks for clearing that up. I had only heard the story of this attraction once several years ago and evidently never got all the details. Much as I love "Pirates" being in WDW, especially since I've never made it out to Disneyland, I do think it's a shame that this ride never happened

First, the Western as a form of popular entertainment dramatically dipped in popularity after the moon landing in 1969 and audiences turned to the skies and science fiction (this turn was referenced somewhat in Toy Story with Woody being replaced by Buzz as a favored toy).

And much more directly referenced in "Toy Story 2."

"Two words - Sput-Nik."

I have a friend who was an engineer intern at the MK and he told me some stuff:

- On HM he got to make a hidden mickey (how cool!). In the dinning scene the last place setting to the left is placed in a mickey head formation. Do not know if it is still there

-Yes, the "FSU" chant on Splash Mountain is true

- Supposedly Pirates is haunted by a former CM named Bob. The last person to leave Pirates has to say "Goodnight Bob" or else the ride will break down the next day.

- He got to do a lot of neat things in his internship, including ride in the Spectro floats, go behind the scenes on all the rides in the MK (including SEEING THE OBAMA HEAD! YES THE HAVE THE HEAD MADE ALREADY)

About Obama, I guess he has yet to agree to say something for the part yet. They are sure he is going to, he has just been so busy I am sure he has yet been bothered about the by his reps.

-Everything on Hall of Presidents is bolted down and the stairs are fake stairs (only a couple inches wide)

umm I can't think of anything else, I will let you know if I remember anything else

About interning (UF student) he got his very own office in the tunnels :cool1:

Wow Buzz Litebeer (LOL LOVE that name!) thanks for the info - who knew?? All of these ideas that never happened all sound awesome!!

Does anyone know how Aerosmith hooked up with Disney for a roller coaster?

Or how about info on the creation of Kitchen Kabaret (or Food Rocks that replaced it?) or the demise of the show or if any of the animatronics ended up somewhere else? I loved KK. FR was pretty good, too. I wonder if either contained any hidden mickeys? I should get out my old photo albums and see if I can find any.

I haven't read through the entire thread yet, but I'm guessing this hasn't been mentioned yet. If it has, I apologize. At Disney, CMs can sometimes take extra shifts in different areas of the park and food service is the one with the least amount of training necessary so pretty much anyone can take a shift no matter what their regular role is. So once I worked with a guy who did ride maintenance for Expedition Everest and he told me that when it was built, they were given the option of either an elevator and no air conditioning or stairs and air conditioning to the top of the mountain. They obviously chose AC/stairs, however, Disney gave them neither. I was told this in 2007, though, so it may have changed. Sidenote: I also once worked with an imagineer and darn him! I couldn't get a single hint out of him of new things in the works :rotfl:

OK, here's another one (that's been discussed elsewhere)...

In the pre-show for Rock N Roller Coaster, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith displays a vulgar hand gesture called "The Shocker." It happens when he says, "Wait a minute... I love that idea."

For more information on "The Shocker," you can check out Wikipedia.

I've been to Disney a bunch of times, thought I knew it all, and this is simply an amazing thread!

I had heard on a video or an online site that Aerosmith was not Disney's first choice. They originally were thinking of the Rolling Stones, but they wanted too much. Then they thought about U2, again too expensive. They settled on Aeorsmith, because they were affordable.

The story I heard is that when Disneyland was being built, Kodak film was one of the sponsors. They were pushing color film (which was still expensive). The red pavement would reflect up and make the pictures look better.

This was the story I was told on th KTTK tour.

as i said, evil tower u r doomed
