Second thoughts on POR - rooms

Love the POR. You can’t go wrong there at all. The most beautiful grounds of all the Disney resorts and the rooms are fine - clean, recently renovated, and well appointed. Plus a great food court, boat to springs, and of course Yeeha Bob. Don’t hesitate to stay.

I think when they did a lot of the latest room refurbs at all Disney resorts, I think they took away a lot of the Disney touches.

NOTE...IN MY OPINION!
Best themed rooms....Little Mermaid AOA
Pretty good....Other AOA rooms, Polynesian, Royal Rooms POR, WL, AKL.

Then I think all others have some touches, but if I'm deciding amongst them, I'm considering more the overall resort theme as opposed to the rooms. That said, I love Port Orleans as a whole, both POR and POFQ...its just so relaxing to walk around ...starting your morning and coming back after the crowds in the parks at night. And, I am a huge fan of the boats....so taking one over to DS instead of driving or taking a bus is really great.....also why I love WL/BRV/CC with taking the boat to FW, CR and the MK.

I also enjoy walking around CSR ....the Casitas are my favorites...Building 5 specifically because u don't have to pay Preferred price and gym is right next door in Building 4. Also like Cabanas, specifically Building 8B.

I'm sure you'll like POR fine. If you were doing a resort only vacation and spending lots of time in the room, I would never recommend this or any of the moderates or values motel-style rooms; in that case I would definitely recommend WL/BRV/CC or AKL or Polynesian or a garden view at BWI, or maybe BC or YC if you're a real pool person.

Okay TMI at this point....just doing a ramble on this very rainy, windy day in Delaware.

Book POR Bayou now!🙃😉

I recently walked around POR for an hour or so before I went to the airport (I devoted the day to visiting different resorts I'd seen hundreds of times in photos but never in person) and it was beautiful. In fact it was my last stop before heading back to POP to retrieve my luggage and I was getting a little anxious about the hours of traveling ahead of me...but when I walked into the Alligator Bayou section I actually felt myself relax! I promised myself I'd try to stay there in the future.

My parents are planning a WDW visit before a cruise in early December, and I think it's very much their style, too. However...I've been watching some room tours, and the rooms themselves are giving me pause. Although I very much like and respect the theming in the Royal Rooms (magic lamp faucets!), they wouldn't be the right fit for more than a night or so. And while I like many of the individual elements of the AB/MB rooms...they're not appealing as a whole. If that makes sense.

Anyway, even though it's early days, I'm torn. If you've stayed at POR in a not-Royal room, I'd really like to hear your impressions! (I'm wondering if it's the lighting in the videos I watched, or the texture on the walls that's making them appear not as 'nice' as usual.) The POFQ rooms look pretty similar, so if you've stayed there recently, I'd appreciate impressions on the rooms there as well!
We stayed at AB last month for 14 days and we were very happy with our room. The decor is 'rustic', keeping with the AB theme. This might have been a recent refurbishment as the room was spotless and very nice. The only thing I didn't like was all of the very high lighting on the walls and ceiling so I went to target and bought a small, cheap ($8.00) table lamp and some 60 watt bulbs. I put the lamp on the table. We drove so I was able to stash the little lamp in my car for the trip home. I am an artist and am very fussy about my lighting but other than that, the room was very nice.
