Anyone have advice on motion sickness rememdies that have actually worked well for them - for adults and children. Do the sea bands work?

I didn't use the seabands (because they didn't match my clothes :) ) but I did use ginger pills and dramamine. I used the ginger pills during the day and they worked really well for me and then I would take the dramamine at night because it would make me so sleepy.

I have heard that the patch works pretty well too - but you need a prescription for that. I picked the ginger pills up at GNC.

I go with Sea Bands and 25 mg of Bonine each night before bed starting the night before. It works great for me. I don't always wear the Sea Bands but find they really help overnight. BTW, my DH thinks Sea Bands are a crock...whatever!

I actually prefer to get a perscription for Reglan from my doctor to keep on hand. No drowsy side affects life the Dramanine. I only need it for the 1st 2 days. I keep it around for times other than cruises like riding in the back seat of the car or amusement parks. I tried the patch for my 1st cruise and was delerious. I will never try anything like that again.

We are diehard ginger capsule fans. These have worked well for us even on the roughest seas. The best part-no side effects other than a slight ginger taste!

The sea bands when they work for people I assume work really well but hubby and I are not fortunate to have them work for us. They basically put pressure on a pressure point in your wrist and if your pressure point is high enough they work but mine and hubbies are too deep for them to work and the electronic impulse ones dont work for us either. There is the patch but that thing scares me for numerous reasons......too many to count but just going to their website and reading the information on side effects is enough to send me packing. Ginger helps alot of people and is great for small kids (who usually dont notice it anyway) but I have drank tons of Ginger Ale and it hasnt worked (probably just not a strong enough dose of ginger in it) but lots of people swear by it. Our big draw is Meclizine which is the active ingredient in Dramamine Less Drowsy and Bonine but MUCH cheaper to buy. We just bought some Meclizine and got 100 tablets for 8.99 at Walmart and when we priced out Bonine it 5.95 for 8 tablets so a no brainer there. We take them 3-4 days before we leave home to get them into our systems and keep us from getting too drowsy (if it is going to happen but usually doesnt to us anymore) but then we either take them in the morning when our feet hit the floor of the ship OR take them at night if they are making us too tired! They are great to take regularly since if you dont and you do get sea sick it takes ALOT longer to get over being sick once you are already sick. Also some people swear by just getting out in the air and mid ship----but I havent tried it so I dont know for sure! The ONLY advice I can give you is if you are trying something that involves medicine to try it out BEFORE you leave home so you will know how your body reacts to it and you can ruin a day at home and see your physician rather than ruin an expensive sea day and spend $$$$ to see the ships doc!!

Just my opinion!

I like ginger. I take two capsules before each meal and two at bedtime. Bought the ginger at GNC.

When I talked to my DD peditrician, she recommended Benedroyl for her. I didn't take anything with me, but I didn't get sea sick. DD was fine. I would talk to your child's peditrician to she what he/she reccomends. Have a fun and safe cruise!

We swear by Relief Bands. They are worn like a watch but on the inside of the wrist. They work with a watch battery. You turn them on when you feel you need them and can adjust the impulse. It feels like a little twinge on the inside of your wrist. Within a few seconds, the nausea is gone. It is the only motion sickness relief approved by the FDA. They are expensive, (about $79 for the reusable one) but worth every penny. They are also great for car and ride sickness as well. DH and I bought them for our 7 day western last year and we are buying 2 more for the kids for our 4 day Wonder trip.
