Has anyone every had to have an appliance replaced because it couldn't be fixed?

2 months ago the repair man came for the dishwasher and ordered 2 parts. One came in the mail and the other was backordered. It was suppose to ship 12/20...well I never got it.

I called today and the part doesn't have a ship date so after several conversations with managers they agreed to replace it.

They said they would call within 48 hours with an authorization code to bring to sears to buy a new one. The amount of the code would be determined by what we paid and what comparable dishwashers are going for.

Just wondering if they amount anyone received was close to what true replacement is or am I going to have to add lots of cash to it.

Anyone?

Is it possible to get a refund so that you can purchase elsewhere? Sears is notorious for selling items they don't have and "upgrading" you to something they do have. It is so common that it is standard operating procedure for appliance sales at Sears.

Really? Ugh!

I doubt it...its a 5 year old Kenmore Elite.

Bummer. I would not replace a Kenmore with a Kenmore due to the issues that Sears is currently having. I would see what credit they offer and look at national brands that they carry.

Former Sears Store Manager here. Quick question.

Was the dishwasher originally installed by Sears, or did you do it yourself?

We had this happen with a refrigerator. To buy another fridge we had to spend about $500 more. Of course they're much more expensive than dishwashers. Good luck!

Sears installed. Your help is appreciated!!!!

OK.

First off, you will need to purchase the replacement from Sears. Pretty easy to understand why they will not give you money to spend with a competitor.

Secondly, the amount you will receive will be a pro-rated amount based upon the years and use you have received from the original dishwasher. However, the amounts are generally fairly reasonable. This means while you will need to pay out of pocket, it shouldn't be as painful as you might be fearing. Newer models also have a lot more features and are more energy efficient, so there is an upside to this afterall! :thumbsup2

Third. It has earlier been suggested to avoid Kenmore, and stick with "name brands". Not sure if everyone realizes that Kenmore is simply a re-badged "name brand" as it is. They are manufactured side by side with the name brands, and are identical in many respects.

Finally, I asked about Sears installed or not, because you are fortunate. Since you originally had Sears install it, Sears is also responsible for the delivery and removal of the unrepairable unit, and the re-installation of the new one. This also ensures that the installation itself carries a satisfaction guarantee.

Hope this info has been helpful.

Good info, still stay away from Kenmore, as Sears controls you. You can purchase a name brand(non- inhouse) from Sears and not be dependent upon Sears for follow up(think repairs and parts). That way, you get your defective unit replaced and avoid being tied to Sears.

My parents have always purchased the extended warranty plans from Sears. A couple of years ago their top of the line 7 or 8 year old refrigerator couldn't be repaired by Sears so they said they would replace it with a comparable model. They brought out an inferior model and my mom called them and complained explaining how hers was the top of the line model at the time. Sears actually came back and took the new one and replaced with their current top of the line model. They even gave her a shiny stainless model (she had a white one previously).

I wish you luck! I have learned my lesson with Sears appliances, will never buy another from them. Two dishwashers and a washing machine did it for me. The replacement for my first lemon dishwasher was a bigger lemon and the only word I'll say about the washing machine is Calypso. Expensive lessons to learn though.....

I had Sears replace an end-of-the-year clearance model gas range with the next year's model for no charge when they couldn't figure out what was wrong after 6 months and 3 repair visits. (The oven would quit working, sometimes stop in the middle of something and other times just not start at all. Interestingly, the new one started the same thing 3 years later and more inconsistent. Sold it with the house.)

They were really nice about it. All of our appliances were Kenmore and wouldn't complain. Who knows if our gas range problem was really them or perhaps something to do with the eletrical. I really don't know and never read any similar reviews. We now have all Samsung and if anything happens, we'll have to buy new, as there isn't anyone to work on Samsung in a 100 mile radius. (Thanks Lowes for not telling us that!) Might consider Kenmore again.

We had a water softerner and always kept insurance on it because of the cost of replacing it where we live was so high and no one wants to come so far in the country to repair anything. We always had problems that went on for years and I was always having to make repeated calls because no one would show up,wrong parts,no parts, etc. So,after one of my many calls,I was told that they had put so many parts on it and it was old, that it wouldn't be worth them working on it anymore and we could call to see if we could get a replacement.I didn't think this was correct, but they have me the phone number and I called and answered a few questions and they said that we could get a replacement.Since they didn't carry the same thing anymore, they told us we could go to the store and pick out a new softerner up to a certain amount of money. They gave us a code to use and a dollar amount not to go over (it was either $500.00 or $700.00 don't remember). We went to the store and picked one out that was better than the one we had (after all,our was very old) and gave them the code and we even had them come and install it and didn't pay a dime.Let's just say that I know over the years I should have been told that much sooner and also I had paid so much in insurance that we could have paid for one ourselves. Will also say we didn't have it 3 months till we got "city water" and didn't need it anymore,so we sold it.Never want to do all that again.Love not having a softerner and all the problems that come with it.Good luck.

OMG! It is the 13th. That is funny because I've always liked that number! I was 13 when I started dating my husband (26 years ago!!!)
