SDFP: CHANGES COMING!! Beware the 7th of June?!

At first, Sao was wreaking havoc. But he's got it straightened out now. Now we just have to get Havoc on the road to Damascus! :)

I think Im on the road --- I have my Magic Bands, received from Disney, linked to my regular account.
I bought link-later MBs off Ebay --- They are now linked to my phantom account. I should be good to go....

it's a shame that Disney does not have a "will call" option for picking up the free magic bands at the resort when you check in for people in other countries where shipping is cost prohibitive. To me that is what created the confusion - the lack of ability to get a MB or other "entry media" assigned to the primary account because of the cost to ship to the UK.

You can pick up your magic bands at resort check in. Sao must be staying off property. He was talking about purchasing MBs and paying to have them shipped. He could have had entry media assigned to the primary profiles, but was trying to get cards for SDFP, so assigned the cards (which originally had tickets) he had in hand to the phantom accounts.

Absolutely, I'm getting dizzy.. but I think there is confusion because he said:
"So our tickets arrived yesterday, and I assigned them both to ghost profiles. I then reassigned them to our actual profiles. Does that mean that if I assign a Magicband to the ghost profiles, they'll be able to get SDFP?"

But I think he is interchangeably using the words tickets and cards. So it's not clear to me whether he assigned the CARDS to the ghosts OR the tickets. And then "reassigned" -- Again, I don't know if the tickets got reassigned, the cards, or both.

That might be what happened. In my mind there was no difference between ticket and card.

I had assumed they were staying at a disney resort but Disney was going to charge a mint to ship their MBs out to them. I am here in the US and stay in a DVC resort so I always get them shipped.

I understand what he was trying to do and how he ended up in the spot he is in. I get that once you have assigned some kind of media (either a card or a MB) to a profile that you can't move it around. the only thing that can be moved around is the entitlement that was once on that card. So the cards are forever tied to the phantoms, the entitlements are tied to his primary profile and he needs some kind of NEW yet unlinked physical media to access those entitlements in the parks. Also if he moves the entitlements around from one profile to the other he will lose whatever advanced FP+s are made with them.

When you FIRST get the card with the ticket loaded on it, that is true. the ticket is your card. and you get the physical cards with the ticket entitlement loaded on them. At that point, whatever profile you assign both the ticket and card (no way to do it separately) will have both the ticket and the entry entitlement assigned to it. From that point on it is possible to reassign the entry entitlement to other profiles but it is never possible to reassign either a card OR a MB to another profile once it has been linked. So yes, at first there is no difference between a ticket and a card. but once you assign it, they are split and you can reassign the ticket but you cannot reassign the card. at that point you NEED a MB to access your entry entitlements OR you need to transfer the entitlement back to the profile that is linked in perpetuity to the card. If you have any old MBs from previous trips linked to your primary profile they should work since anything linked to your profile is a clone of anything else linked to your profile.

First post of the thread. The difference between cards/bands and entitlements is explained in detail.
honestly you might want to add to the top that people should read it 2-3 times. That is what it took me to fully grasp it. The first reading I kind of sort of got it. then I thought about it for around a day and thought of some questions. I read through it again and realized that it answered those questions and now I was able to absorb that level of detail. It really took a third read before I had all of my questions answered and it took time to digest in between reads to figure out what my questions were.

I don't think I will have a problem keeping track of my FPs because I'm the type of person who knows at every given moment which of the 3 supermarkets I go to has what I need at the best price. I can't remember my name some days but details like that my brain works very quickly on and I should have no trouble keeping track of two sets of FPs.

Actually, there is already an advisory near the top that the first post needs to be reread three times! :)

You'll be fine with two sets - you sound detail oriented. Marcie probably manages four on occasion!

My best is 7 sets (of 2 people, with 3 FPP per set). ;) But honestly, more than 3 sets is pretty much useless at any park other than MK and only useful at MK if you're staying in the park all day. I really don't use SDFP pretty much ever unless I'm testing or have someone visiting who is only here for like one day. Otherwise, using family AP bands is much easier than all this confusion and allows me to do it in advance and make changes on my MDE and not mess with kiosks. And being local, actually the vast majority of the time DH & I go into parks we book at most 1-2 FPP's total even with our own bands.

Strategy Question:

I have 9 cards.

1. When I go to the kiosk, should I scan all 9 cards before I begin selecting SDFP ?
2. If I do scan all nine initially, how easily can I determine of the nine, how do I know how many is available for a specific attraction and time?
3. How would you handle this amount of cards ?

I wouldn't unless you're trying to book for all 9 at once. I would scan as many as you need for your party at a time and then choose the 3 attractions for that group before moving on and scanning the next batch. If you scan all 9 you'll need to unclick names that you don't want to use for that group (and probably scan them again anyway when you do select for them). It also will only show you availability for the number you search for at once so you'll get far more options if you do say 3 at a time. How many are in your group?

Six are in my group. Maybe I can do three at a time, get the attraction and time, then do the other three and get the same attraction and at least an overlapping time.

How long after using the fastpasses from the 2nd set of tickets aka GLFP can you book fastpasses for another day? I thought I remember something about 24 hours but not sure.

That's what I'd do. Do you have any kids to use baby swap as well? Or if you can't get overlapping times maybe have an idea of what some people would like to do vs. others if they split up 3 & 3 and look for things nearby - so 3 could do Space and 3 could do Buzz or 3 Pirates and 3 Jungle Cruise or similar.

One thing to keep in mind too is just to look at all the available times when booking the first set of 3. If you look at Small World and it shows availability for 2:25, 2:30, 2:35 and various others you can probably safely assume you'll be able to get it for the next group as well. If you see 7DMT and the only available time is 6:30, you can guess someone just dropped that one and make a call on if you want to grab it quickly for 3 members of your party to at least be able to ride or if this will cause more problems than it's worth and just look for something different. It won't always show all available times (although you can frequently click the option on the screen to see more times) but if it only shows 1 or 2 options, those are all that are available.

I'm pretty sure once you're done with your FPP's for that day and they disappear from your screen on MDE that you can book for the next day. Usually mine will show for a few minutes after I scan at a ride but by the time I get off the ride it's no longer visible on MDE. I don't use GLFP that much as described in the first post so I'll wait for @ScrapYap to chime in too but I know it works that way for AP. So if I have 7 days booked (the maximum I'm allowed), once I'm done using any FPP's I want that day (remember if you're going to try to get a 4th & subsequent you'll need to wait until scanning the last one) I make sure everything is gone (and just cancel any that remain although usually I get an error message if I try to do so and then they're gone when I refresh) and can book another day's worth at that point.

:) ok great. thanks for the info

Try soon after using the last one, then just try a couple hours later. If the system still won't let you book, wait a few more hours, etc. This has varied over time - but should be the way Marcie describes. (And as described in the first post of the thread. :))

How do you like to mark your cards so you know which card goes with which guest/phantom? Sharpie across the front? Stickers?

Mine were all used by someone I bought a ticket for at some point (sons' girlfriends, inlaws, niece, friends) and just asked them to let me keep the card. So they all have the name written on them (in Sharpie) from when they were issued originally and show up as either managed or linked in my MDE (except for a couple which were water park only or DQ only). If it's a really confusing day with lots of different FPP's in different names I throw it all into Touring Plans and list all the FPP's there and write in who they're for (basically the old fashioned pen & paper method after the basic itinerary is printed out) just to be able to see them all at a glance. Then I keep the different sets in the little mini ziploc bags (I honestly bought 2000 of those when we moved here because I use them so often) - the ones just big enough to store cards/credit cards along with other park essentials (I keep one with things like bandaids, moleskin, gum, cough drops, motrin, etc.) and just pull out a set when we're en route to a ride.
