First, I want to thank all the people that let me know where all the sales were for the memory cards, you guys sure are helpful:thumbsup2 !

I ended up picking one up at Office Max, the 2.0 GB for $25.00. Not the best deal, but I have it in my hands.

My question is this. I have a Scandisk 2.0 GB Ultra II. Will this be sufficiant to shoot a small amount of video? I'm talking maybe a minute or two. We are taking our camcorder along, but don't want to carry it ziplining. I was going to use my Canon S3 to shoot a small amount of footage as my best friend zips along screaming her lungs out:rotfl2: ! The look on her face will be priceless and I really don't want to miss it. Hey, what are best friends for:confused3 ?

The Ultra will be fine for the video, Sharon. Max length of video is 1 gig. Shoot at the highest quality, it is pretty darn good.

Thanks Dan:thumbsup2 !

Oh, and Dan, I do want to thank you for helping me with the AARP decision. You may not remember it, I'm pretty sure it was over a year ago. But that card has save us sssoooo much money at hotels. It probably saved us over $100 alone last summer at Ocean City. And that was for only 3 nights. I give you total credit for that!!

It depends on the quality of the video (the resolution) and how many frames you're shooting in a second. The S3 allows up to 1GB per clip so you should get 7-8 minutes at the best setting (640x480 at 30 frames per second) per clip or about 15 min total. You can get more time, and take up less room on the card, by dropping the frame rate (which makes it jerkier) or by decreasing the resolution. For a minute or two, go with the best settings and have fun. If you get addicted to it, you may want to drop the resolution a bit.

Your ultra will be fine for the video, I think you can get around 30 minutes with 1GB? Maybe someone else here will confirm that. It's been a few months so I don't remember exactly and of course it depends on the quality setting also.

I can tell you that I taped DH's laser eye surgery in Dec which was about 15-20 minutes and I didn't run out of memory. I've also used it at MGM to video the Osbourne's Festival of Lights which lasts about 10 minutes and I've taken a few other short videos that were 5-10 minutes long.

It might be worth shooting some video before your trip just so you can get a feel for how long you can record before running out of memory.

That sounds great! I only want to shoot a few minutes worth so I should have room to take plenty of pics.
