Scrappers - what started it for you?

Family

My mom has been scrapping since before it was popular and when there was one store that sold paper, protectors and alblums. Back when decoration was generic stickers and each year was one of the oh 5 colors of cardstock availale (Light Blue, Green, Pink, Yellow and Buff)

My "first" page I helped with was when I was 4

I started doing my own events in 91 and my own books in 95.

I generally do 3-4 books a year. 1-2 being Disney ones (yes I go to much..)

Hey right back, Lauri! Not doin' too bad - busy trying to make a living (bummer how that tends to interfer with posting on the Dis, though!)

Yeah, I hear ya about the price of those... about the only one I would consider right now would be the set for coin photography... but then Brian just figured out today that we can flip our tripod's center post end-for-end and we can use it to hold our camera upside down just like the copy stand they sell... SWEET! :thumbsup2 Saves us a whole buncha dough!

Okay, I'll admit it... I've been lurking over here on the CSS for awhile now... I started a digital scrapbook using PaintShop Pro almost 5 years ago (egads!) after our first trip to WDW... it's very rudimentary, but what's really pathetic is... I have about 50 pages finished... and I'm still on Day 1 in the MK!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl: Okay, I guess brevity was never my strongest suit!

Needless to say, I sorta bombed out on that (considering we've been back to WDW 4 times since!) I've never scrapped any other way than digital... (even though my sister is BIG time into CM.) Now, I really want to re-do a lot of my old layouts and have Brian turn the whole thing into a DVD movie. <sigh> There's never enough hours in the day! :sad2:

There... I filled you in a bit and I kept it mostly on-topic, too! :teeth:

Oh, and Hi Matt! :wave2:

Sandy, you have GOT to post a thread and show everyone your beautiful pictures!! I'm sure they would love to see them and see how outrageously talented you are!!

Scrapbooking - I've always kept pictures and memorabilia in photo albums but in 1999 my friend invited me to a CM show and they said the sticky albums I'd been using would ruin my photos. I wasn't sold. I didn't like the CMC. Then, another friend invited me to another show with a different CMC a couple months later and I realized I could be totally creative with this stuff and I was hooked. I dropped $300 on everything I could get my hands on that night and then got more and more and more. Now I buy stuff from local shops and on-line but use CM albums 95% of the time. About 7 years later I have my own craft room but no time to scrap! Of course, I just got layed off so I guess I'll have more time now - but no money to buy the supplies :rolleyes1 oh well!

I make an album a year, chronologically, and then separate albums for very special occasions or events, and I make a lot of gift albums which are fun. DH finally gets my hobby so that's cool too!

I actually got into scrapbooking several years ago (I've lost track now) as a way to showcase my DD's ribbons from her gymnastics competitions, plus her programs scores, special meets, etc.

I was working on it and then found out a fellow military wife was an avid scrapbooker. From there it just blossomed. I used to have a small container of stuff, but now have my own work space and all the gadgets you could want.

After completing my DD's gymnastic memories, I did our trip 2002 trip to WDW and recently completed a book from our cruise last year. Currently I'm working on a few, one for our trip to Las Vegas last year, one for a friend who was stationed in Iraq, our wedding/honeymoon, then have to scrap this years cruise. Then I have books that will continually be works in progress as new events happen, such as birthdays, school plays, etc.

I absolutely LOVE scrapbooking and find that people love to look at them. It's an addiction that my DH doesn't mind at all.

Eeek! Don't know if I'm that brave yet!

Lauri, you're too, too kind! Well, I'll see what I can do over the next couple days - got some web design work to help Brian with... gotta keep up with the paying gigs, y'know! :thumbsup2

Of course, the delay also serves to build the anticipation level! :rotfl2:

Hey, I can attest to the fact that my Original MacGowan is one of my most treasured pieces of art! :)

I have to blame Disney for my scrapbooking!! I saw the scrapbooking stuff at WDW in 2004 and after 5 days of looking at it in every shop I decided to pick up a few things!! :lmao: $200 later I was headed back to my room! The CM at the counter at the Exposition Hall asked me how long I had been scrap bookingand I had to tell her that I hadn't scrapped a thing!! :lmao:

I have now done one trip (2 books) and I'm working on my book with my last trip! I've had to promise the family that I would do things other than Disney trips!!

Ooops time for me to go...have a 12 hour day of scrapping that I'm headed to in a few minutes!!

I blame an old family friend who was also working as an assistant in the school I teach in. The students were trying to create a board game to pull together what they had learned from a reading book and my friend walks in with the greatest tools! Tiny paper cutter, corner rounders, wonderful adhesives. Just the basics at the time, but I'm such a tool loving girl that I had to see more. She brought in the albums she was working on for her kids and I knew I was in trouble. It was like someone had created the hobby just for me. I've always loved photography and have piles and piles of prints and digital pics already. They they capitalized on not only my love of paper, but also my love of all things small and detailed. (brads, photo corners, embellishments of all kinds!!)

I held out as long as I could since I knew that when I took that first step into scrapbooking, there'd be no going back. I made it about three months. Then I found out that a good friend and my cousin had gotten into it as well. No more excuses. I headed out to the local Michaels since I wasn't able to locate a LSS and made my first purchases. I wasn't too bad on that trip, a good paper cutter, nice small tipped scissors, adhesive (I love dotto!), some pattern paper, and an album. If only I had been able to stay that restrained.

Now, I'm scrapping in all my free time. I have two ongoing albums, one for Disney and one for everything else that will eventually be sorted into its own album. I've finished a small baby book for my friend, my first mini book, lots of assorted cards and artwork for the walls pages........ My monthly scrap club has been the greatest decision I've made. One, it helps cut down on my spending because I'm always getting new materials from it. Also, it keeps me challenged to use new color combinations that I usually wouldn't have thought of on my own.

Now, if only I can think of how to use the paisly collection from March...

ok i was invited to a creative memory party...... it was the same night as my dd softball party so i said i would drop in when my dd party was over.... i did just that i got there and i was talked ......( pressured)into having my own creative memories party..... so i booked one thinking i would just make a 8x10 picture frame of my family portrait...... well i got hooked!!!i had 20 guests there and i got so much stuff in free merchandise...... thats all it took!!! i ended up scrappin every waking moment i had and drove hours away to go to different scrapbook stores...... now i have 6 albums finnished and i have my dd 15 and dd 9 involved..... they each have 2 books done.... i went to disney for the first time in march and worked non stop to finnish my book......i posted my layouts in another thread....... but yes i am addicted!! i had to buy a computer cabinet for all of my things..... i have scrap get-togethers at least once a month...... and thats all she wrote..... vicki

My best friend , got me started!! This was about 8 years ago and now I can't stop!!! I love it and all these awesome papers and other goodies, trust me scrapbooking has came along way......

it all started when my friend & i went to an arts & crafts show. and there was a cm booth. we checked it out, thought it was kinda nice & interesting, put our names down for some more info. and the cm lady wrote to us, inviting us to her place for a cm party. so we went. (that was in 1997). and since i've just recently been married at the time, i bought stuff for my wedding scrapbook album. i've only have 2 albums under my name. one for our wedding, one for our cruise. i have 1 more pending...i think i can only scrap during the summer, when i have loads of time. but it's really fun looking at others' pages & get inspired! :flower:

My scrapbooking started when I saw my older sister's first book. She had recently moved to our area from So. California and had started with CM from their first line of products. I bought a scrapbooking magazine and it's been a wonderful hobby ever since. I make a book for every year, but I'm behind right now; had a new house, new baby and a new job all in one year!!! BUT, I am current on the girls' baby books! :teeth:

My SIL got my DD's (three of them) into scrapbooking a few years ago. I do so many other things like Quilting, sewing, all kind of crafts, I thought it would not be a good idea to start something new. Then we all went on a family trip to WDW, and I stumbled on the scrapbooking store in DTD. When I saw the Disney scrapbook and all the cool stickers I was hooked. Spent $200.00 in that store and just kept going. My three DD's and I go to a CM retreat every January, our only chance to get away with no DH's and no kids. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

:goodvibes She wanted to go to a free class at the local library. I had no desire to do scrapbooking at all. She really wanted to go and I knew she would not go by herself, so I agreed to go along for "moral support". The lady holding the class was a CMC so we got the whole spiel-which was an ok thing. Learned the do's and don'ts. Needless to say, I was hooked. In fact I am much more into it than my co-worker. This was in 2001. I have finished 10+ albums with several in the works. I go in streaks....sometimes spending every free minute scrapping while other times going 2-3 months without thinking about it--of course that doesn't stop me from buying supplies though. :rolleyes1

O well, it's a good vice to have.

I only recently got into it .... actually on easter weekend to be exact !! I knew what it was but never had a thought to do it as I was into folk art painting and making country crafts ect. My daughter has a scrapbooking club she is in at her school, her french teacher is right into it so put on this club all year for 15 dollars a student! On saturday that just passed she had a school weekend trip to a scrapbooking store for a two hour class with the club and after I saw what she has been stealing my photos for, I was hooked so monday went out and bought 300 dollars worth of tools and supplies and ordered another 100 dollars of stuff off ebay LOL. I have made 4 pages so far! Great seeing as I am a stay at home mom I have tons of time to do it! I am HOOKED thanks to my DD :wizard:
