Scotland Just back

Oh, good! I want to try a real Haggis! :) I have to ask, what does "toner time Dusty" mean? :confused3

Sayhello

Dusty is one of the guides that has been with ABD since its inception and is a top notch guide. Dusty wasn't supposed to do this tour but one of the guides had a family emergency and they called him as he is one of 3 that is considered "a world guide" as he has done 12 of the itineraries.

He carry's around everything, you might need while we are out, including the kitchen sink. at meals he went around with no less than 4 different hand sanitizers. He also carries around this spray toner, you spray it on you face to refresh you. So when we would get back on the bus or the plane he would say "it is toner time".

Oh as for the ER, my knee, well Sunday night I iced it all night long and woke up Monday and it was worse, as the day wore on it got worse, it was very very swollen and radiating heatso when we got back to the hotel i went to the hosp turns out I had bursitis that got infected and they gave me antibiotics, that was the first trip. Fast forward 3 days and I had really bad pain in my lower leg and it got progressibly worse, where the pain was it could have been a blood clot so I went again and there was no clot but because I was straining my leg and couldn't bend it the muscles in my lower leg were in a spasm that wouldn't let up until pain went away and it relaxed

Yikes! Sorry about that, but glad it didn't spoil the trip for you! Is the knee better now?

And thanks for the explanation about Dusty. :thumbsup2

Haggis tasted like liverwurst to me, so if you like that, you might like haggis. Can't help you about the "Dusty" remark.
I don't think I've ever had liverwurst. :confused3 I guess I'll just have to give the Haggis a try without a clue what it tastes like! :)

Sayhello

DD loved the haggis at the hotel in Inverness. She kept going back for more! I thought it was fine, kind of a blast from the past from the liverwurst I ate as a kid on Long Island. Without giving away too much, I enjoyed the presentation of the haggis at the hotel.

Also, I love the photo under your name!

Thanks! That is Eilean Donan castle for folks who haven't been yet. Very hard to fit the family and the castle in 100 x 100 pixels!

That's the Dusty we had in China in 2008--great guide! As for Haggis--well, good to have the option, but I'll pass...

Really, WeLoveABD, no haggis for you?? :goodvibes I think trying native foods is part of the adventure and that would be the best place to try it out! As long as it is cooked and ABD vouched for it, I'll go for it! :)

Did you google it?

Haggis is one food no amount of tortue could ever make me try.

I really love haggis. I often choose it when out at a restaurant particularly as a starter. It also features in a dish called 'Balmoral chicken' where the chicken is stuffed with haggis. Haggis has a lot of oatmeal in it. When I'm abroad I like to try new foods. I also like to go for locally sourced foods in restaurants for really fresh quality food.

I know haggis, seen it in Bizarre Foods and I have eaten innards before. Innards are made of smooth muscle, still muscle like meat but not striated. So yes, I will try it. :)

I agree with you, tufbuf! I'm certainly going to at least try it! If I don't like it, I don't have to eat the whole thing! But it's all a part of the adventure! (And yes, I've googled it, and it's no worse than some other things I've eaten! ;) )

Hey! I tried guinea pig in Peru, and wild boar in Italy...but I have to say, after having Menudo at one of our fine San Diego Mexican restaurants (and the kids moved to another table!), I'm good as far as Haggis goes!

Re haggis - how different is it from tripe or even the heart liver and gizzards in chicken soup? Any similarities in taste, or is it very different due to the added ingredients in the preparation (ie oatmeal etc) ?

So I went to Scotland saying no way to haggis, but then got there and decided if they offer I will try it! So I did. It reminded me of finely ground up meat and was a bit too spicey for me. Not hot spicey, just spicey. DH liked it.

Dusty will also ply you with travel gum, drowsy or non drowsy dramamine, and make sure you have a front of the bus seat if you are a big motion sickness baby like me!

And our trip was every bit as fabulous as Tozzie says as were both our adventure guides!

Oooo, thanks for the head's up about the front of the bus. I am a big motion sickness baby, too! I'll be sure & bring the patch with me, too!

Glad your trip was so fabulous! I'm really looking forward to taking it next year! :yay:

What triggers the motion sickness, the long drive or winding roads?
