Scored a GV at just under 8 months!

We have been planning a January trip with friends who are also DVC members. We had a 1 bedroom booked and they had a 2 bedroom. I called today and discovered there were several Grand Villas still available for the week we wanted to travel, so we snagged that instead! It's costing each of us less points than our original reservations, and we just had the reservations linked. She booked 3 weeknights plus one weekend night, and I booked 2 weeknights plus one weekend night. The total point cost was 25 points less, and by doing it this way, she could use her banked points and I could use my borrowed ones and still bank some of my points back that weren't needed when the ressie was modified.
It's been several years since we've stayed in a GV, so that will be fun again. This is with only 6 people though. Each couple will get their own room. I did request buildings 15, 16 or 63 as well. I particularily like 15 and 16, but I'd take 63 if that was the only choice. I know those wont be refurbished by then, but that part doesn't concern me. I just like that Miller's Road area, and we have stayed in GVs in 15 before and loved the location.

Just wanted to let folks know that there ARE still GVs available at OKW in January at this late date!

Wow...that's excellent Diane! We've never stayed in a GV but maybe someday if we ever have grand kids....

Congrats on the snag. I managed to get a GV at BLT for mid January also. It seems that January occupancy is really low this year with some good inventory still available.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised to find it available. We never considered that would happen, so we both booked our own units. We really wanted to be together anyway, so this is perfect! It's also pretty good to know that January might be very un-crowded. We always like that about January too. January of '09 was COLD that week, so hopefully this coming one will be a bit warmer. I wont mind though if it is cold. It's still going to be warmer than home!

Cold isn't the word for it. It was freezing. However, two years ago I can remember sitting by the pool at Luna Park the week after New Year's. I think it was sunny and mid 80s. Maybe we'll have that weather back again. Sounds like we may cross paths. We arrive December 28 and don't leave till January 19 (a story in itself).

We don't have points at OKW, and just yesterday my wife said she would like a GV there sometime. It's good to know that it's possible!

Wow, that's a nice long trip! We will be at OKW the first week of December and then again the last week of January. It seems like two trips too close together, but the first one is just us, and the second one is with my best friend and her family. It's been about 6 years since we traveled to DVC/OKW together with them, so it's time. She was busy entertaining her family the past few years. We actually did overlap a day in '09, but we only saw them briefly for dinner that time. We plan to have a couple of "girls night out" times with my best friend, me and her daughter. The three of us have such a good time together, and we'll leave the guys to their own devices that night!
