school vacations? California

Wow I never got a full week off when I was went to school in San Francisco!

Did you have a September start? Schools that get fall break in the Bay often start at the beginning of August. When my district started instead in September last year, they cancelled fall break.

My district also used to do two weeks off for spring break. I think they're down to only one now.

We have an August start and don’t get fall break. Our year round schools who start in July do though.

I do think we get out at the end of the year earlier though. As a parent I love it. As a teacher, I could really use the fall break right now 🤣

Here in the Bay Area, it was last week or this week...

We are also in the Bay Area but my kids (K-8) fall break is next week and is typically the second or third week of October. Our HS district, however, does not do fall break (bummer now that I have a HS student. No more fall break vacations for us... we've done DL many times and Aulani on fall breaks in the past)

None of our public schools do "ski week" (which is, as mentioned, President's day week) but nearly all the private schools in our area do. Our K-8 district has recently started doing the full week of Thanksgiving off though. K-8 also has a two week spring break- usually the week before and after Easter. HS only one week, usually the week before Easter.

Year round schools in my district were always the excuse we were given why we had fall break at the traditional schedule schools (so families with students in both types would have a week off that matched the track in year round that didn't get any summer break off).

When we had two week spring breaks plus the fall break, we got out the end of the second week of June. With one week spring break they're now done usually before the end of the first week of June. Except when they started in September last year and went to just past mid June.

My mom is a teacher. That fall break is crucial to her :rotfl:

The staggering of all of these schedules throughout the state and neighboring states definitely spreads out when to expect families to be vacationing to DLR. I think spring break one year recently was nearly a full month before Easter for my district.

It's not just CA schools, but AZ and UT school schedules that one should consider as well.

Some schools have fall break this week. Some districts have year-round school, so their fall breaks are 2 weeks and began last week.

Some districts have all of Thanksgiving week off, whereas for other districts, it's the traditional Thanksgiving Day and day after that are off.

AZ schools' spring breaks vary a bit, but it's often the first week of March, sometimes 2nd week of March...year round districts have 2 weeks off for spring break.

AZ schools everywhere except for the Tucson area also have a 3-4 day weekend around President's Day in February. Tucson area schools do NOT have President's Day off, but instead have 3-5 days off of school for Rodeo Week. The 2022 rodeo runs 2/19-2/22. This timeframe is known around Tucson as The Week That Tucson Goes To Disneyland. :rotfl2:
