School Spring Breaks (Always Week Before/After Easter?)

Spring break here is the first or second week of March We get Good Friday and the Monday after for Easter.

Spring break is never taken for weather days. The Monday after Easter is the dirst day they will take. Of course we rarely have ice or snow days. But even missing 4-6 weeks after Katrina, they didn't take away Spring Break. They took other days through the year, made the last day before Christmas break a full day and added time to the end of each school day.

I checked my local district and once again Spring Break coincides with Easter. Schools are closed Good Friday, April 3, and then Mon 6 to Fri 10. For 2016 (see, some districts set their calendars far in advance), Easter is March 27, and schools are closed Good Friday March 25. But the week long break is April 4-8. Passover is in late April in 2016. No days off for Passover next year. I'm sure observant Jewish kids could be excused, at least for some of the days.

While we're on the subject, I DESPISE it when Easter is in March. This current Pope seems open to new ideas. If given an audience with him, I'm sure I could convince him to change Easter permanently to the second Sunday in April.

Various schools, but one district did not have a spring break at all. They had Good Friday off but that was it. Another district had a full week off in March. I would have loved a mid-February spring break though.

My kids' school right now almost always has their spring break the last week or so of March. This year, they actually have 12 days off (March 27-April 5). It's a non-religious private school, so their break doesn't correspond with Easter usually, unless it's by accident.

My older son is going to a Catholic high school next year - their spring break is always the week after Easter (plus Good Friday). Fortunately, for 2016, that happens to fall in late March so our spring breaks are the same time. It's not likely to work out that well in future years, however.

My child's district has the Thursday and Friday before Easter and the Monday after Easter off. That's it. There's no "Spring Break".

My daugther's college has a full week off, the first week of March.

YES! I am not a fan at all of both February and April vacations. I would much rather ditch February all together and just have an earlier release in summer. This February the kids had plenty of time off with all the snow days, anyway. They were out of school more than in school! I feel that the school schedule is much more for the teachers than it is for the students and families.

Our April vacation is starting the week of Patriot's Day. We do have Good Friday off this year, though I know our district has been surveying parents about their preferences for days off and that may change in the future. GF coincides with the day before Passover this year, a busy time for our family, so I'm glad my kids don't have school. We also have 1 day of Rosh Hashanah (even though it's a 2-day holiday) and Yom Kippur off. As we observe holidays, I keep my kids home and they are excused for religious reasons.

Definitely more out of school than in this past February between vacation and all the snow days. Even the kids were happy to get back to school! Well, almost...

Anyway, for those schools that have them, are they always scheduled either the week before or after Easter, depending on Easter's date?

No.

Our kids went to Catholic schools. They followed the same Spring Break days as the local public school schedule, which is always the middle of March, usually the week of St. Patrick's Day. It has never corresponded with Easter.

This year, ours was March 16 - 20.

Well, best I can tell from a Google search, the date of Easter is already locked in on both the Georgian and Julian calendars until the year 2400.

So if you do meet with the Pope, your Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandchildren will be the first to enjoy your work in the year 2400.

Pfffft!!! I was the one who convinced Pope Greg to dump Julius Caesar's calendar in the 1500s, and in the 1700s I influenced King George-number-whatever to change New Year's Day from March 25 to January 1, so I doubt I'll have any problem convincing Francis to change Easter's date. ;)

Supposedly, back in the 1920s, the UK Parliament drafted legislation to change Easter's date to the Sunday after the second Saturday in April. But the Anglican Church wouldn't go for it, so the bill was tabled. Apparently, however, the legislation is still on the books and pending.

Ours is always the week after Easter - plus Good Friday
But I remember the university in the state capital always has the week BEFORE Easter.....this is our Spring Break

Our spring break--Kansas, Iowa, Missouri--have always been in March. My son goes to college in Arizona and spring breaks in his area are also in March. His is usually 2nd week, ours have been 2nd or 3rd week. Just finished spring break this year.

Ours is always the First week of March- Province wide... My daughter in private gets the last week of February as well, as they have VERY few days off of any type year round.. Her school schedules in 3 possible snow days, and hasn't used one since 1991, so those will be added in as extra days off pretty soon..

We also get Good Friday and Easter Monday, that is about it..

K-12 schools have Easter break here in OHIO, usually the week before or the week after Easter. Colleges seem to have Spring Break. My kids go to 3 different colleges in OH & have 3 different breaks, none of them near Easter.

I grew up in Massachusetts, and now I live/teach in Maine, and our spring break is always the week that contains Patriot's Day (April 19th). Our winter vacation is always the week including President's Day (used to be Washington's Birthday, but that changed…)

DD's college spring break is always the first 2 weeks of March, and DH's college break (until this year) was always the 2nd and 3rd week of March; now it's just the 3rd week. We have all this time off in our family, but none of it is simultaneous!
