Scary Books

"The Witching Hour" by Anne Rice

While my FAVORITE Book is The STand, I actually thought Pet Cemetery was scarier.

Most things by Stephen King. I couldn't finish the Regulators.

The only Stephen King book that really made me stop and put it down for awhile before continuing was "Misery". Wasn't because it was overly scary, but because of the OMG -- ow! factor.

I thought "The Omen" was really scary, but I read it when I was young.

How about "Ghost Story" by Peter Straub?

Ooh, "Ghost Story" sounds good. I looked it up on Amazon. :eek:

We need Halloween smilies around here. :)

Stranger Beside Me and In Cold Blood

In Cold Blood is on my list to show them...Stranger Beside Me seems like it is terrifying as well! I will be checking a lot of these out (I guess I won't sleep this month).

The Exorcist
by William Peter Blatty;
1971; Harper & Row/Bantam [Horror Fiction]

Review Author: Rikki LaCoste
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the most staggering pieces of literature that I have ever read. Of course, the movie of the same name was brilliant, in many respects, and turned out to be a hair-raising landmark in horror movie history; but the book is an unsung masterpiece of literature, story-telling, occult phenomena, and psychological strain, as the characters are weaved into unimaginable and unnatural situations.
The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. Even Stephen King said it was one of the most terrifying things he ever read. A true story about the Ebola virus in the suburbs of Washington DC. :earseek:
Salems Lot by Stephen King
I love Stephen King and collect all his books but this one. It really scared me!! I actually threw the book away and I have never thrown a book away.
My kids always tease me about it.
Just about any of Stephen Kings novels. Also Anne Rice -- the Vampire Chronicles, The Vampire LeStat ~ all those vampire books she wrote that I dared to read kept me up nights worrying. I know logically it is silly, but she writes so well I believed it.
if you like anne rice read brandon massey!
Well...I'm sure this doesn't apply, but Revelation is pretty scary.
I have read all of Anne Rice's books and never found one to be scary. They are a long read and I have to be in total silence so I can understand them.
Her Sleeping Beauty book's are gross, but not in a scary way. Haha.
I read a book maybe 10 years back in high school called The Headsmen or something like it. I thought it was scary and I even read it twice. Good Halloween read.
"It" is the only book that's ever given me nightmares. "Shadowland" by Peter Straub is pretty scary.
The Taking by Dean Koontz..its a suspense novel but it makes you think and is scary..its been a while since I read it but it is one of the only books I have kept to read again (I am a huge reader too..5-6 books a month) I never keep books I usually pass them on but this one is a definite keeper.
I love that book. I read it and I listened to it on CD. So great!! I can't wait to read it again.
I read "scary" books so much that none of them really scare me any more, it's hard to think of one!
John Saul books are great. "Where are the Children?" by Mary Higgins Clark was good. "The Shining", "Pet Semetary", and "Salems Lot" by Stephen King. But the book I would recommend is "Bag of Bones" by Stephen King. EXCELLENT book.
