SCAL and cords?

Hi everyone. Was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. I have some SCAL files stored on my laptop and I wanted to try playing around with them since I'm not currently involved in any swaps. I'm really missing swapping with everyone, but my home is still so uncertain that I'm never really sure that I will have time to work on groups, so can't make the commitment right now. Bought Scal2 several months ago before they made it incompatible with the cricut, so I thought maybe I would be able to work on learning to use that until I'm able to rejoin the swaps. That way, when I come back to the boards.....I can work on making some original pieces. My question is....I think I'm missing a cord. Can't figure out how to connect my laptop to my cricut. What kind of cord is everyone using?

You just need a USB cord. I use one that goes to my printer.

Thanks Rachal I will have to look at it again. I tried what I thought was my USB cord, but the one end didn't want to work. Maybe it's damaged? I will have to see if I have a spare around the house.

Totally off topic - you must be getting excited for that new little one's arrival. Haven't been on the board too much lately - have you found out if it's a boy or girl? I always wanted to be surprised, but just couldn't resist when the doctor asked if we wanted to know the sex. Hope you are finding some time to pamper yourself while you can!

Danielle, there is a special USB cord to connect your cridut to your computer. One end is regular usb and the other has a squarish end that plugs into the back of the cricut. I can't remember if the cord came with the cricut machine, but I think it does. The computer end has the cricut symbol on it. Hope that helps.

Thanks Cassey. That totally explains why the cord I was trying to shove into the laptop wouldn't work. Will have to go and dig out the cricut box tonight and hope that's where the cord is. Do you know, is it a cord I would use for the Gypsy too? Or is it a totally different cord? Maybe I don't have to dig the box out if its the same cord.

Hi Lisa. I miss everyone here too! I had no idea how much this board and all my sisters here mean to me until I've not been able to be here. I'm torn because I really want to see what everyone is up to, but then I feel bad because I can't participate right now. Kind-of a catch-22.

The pieces I need to send to you are all organized, boxed and ready to be mailed. Do you want to PM me when you get back so I can send them off to you? So totally bummed that I won't be making the NY meet. I really would love to say thanks to you in person. Your kindness has meant so much to me during the last couple months. We are truly lucky to have you with us on the boards! You all are gonna have so much fun! Enjoy NYC - I love visiting there. So much to do. I always have big plans about going here and there, but usually only get to about half of it.....kinda like a Disney vacation!

Danielle, not sure about the cord for a gypsy, haven't got one Dh says maybe for Christmas, but he is very forgetful so I am not getting my hopes up. I looked into the cable a little further and I think it came with design studio. You should be able to by the same type of cable either online or at a computer store. Sending you a PM

As for the Gypsy.....some people love it. Mine is sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Used it once and put it away because it took longer than if I just used my cricut. Didn't get it back out for about a year. Thought maybe I should try it again. Used it once and put it back on the shelf. Not sure if there's something I'm just not getting about it or what, but I just don't love it. Hoping SCAL will be a program that I can get into.

if you have problems with SCAL - ask it is worth it just for the true type fonts that you already have
