Saying NO to your children--this weeks People magazine

Melora, I can't say I blame either you or your husband from staying away from the Bat Mitzvah. I think those are extenuating circumstances, but ordinarily, I feel that parents need to put aside their differences for the sake of their children.

Perhaps your DH can do something special for his daughter that will let her know he has acknowledged and celebrates this rite of passage without having to attend the actual event.

I'm sorry you had to go through all of that - it sounds really terrible for all involved. :(

Melora that is a horrible thing to happen to your family. I can't say that I blame you for staying away from that witch.

As far as the other things, I agree with the majority. The little kids will be fine without the huge parties and popularity contests and teens need to learn that the world does not revolve around them.

My DS is involved with Kenpo Karate and there is the nicest group of kids in his school. They are ages 5-16 and the older kids are so patient and caring towards the little ones. It is so refreshing to see nice teenagers.
