Even basic cable service is getting very expensive. I am newbie to sites like Hulu. Can I pick up some basic programming from HGTV or the Food Channel on it. Any other ideas to see even a few programs like Say Yes to the Dress or House Hunters:confused3:confused3

We haven't had cable for... 2? years now. I don't even remember. And living in the hills and valleys of Ohio, our rabbit ears only pick up a couple channels... as long as no one goes into the kitchen.

We have an xBox and netflix. We stream lots of movies and shows that way. We also have a computer hooked up to our tv, so we can watch hulu (or netflix) thru the computer onto the tv.

We've also watched shows on Fancast and network stations' websites.
And dh will buy some episodes off amazon if it's a fave and we can't get it for free... like Psych. Family favorite!

We are definitely NOT missing cable, or the almost $80/month bill --- and that was for basic channels. No TLC, History channel, etc.

W/ Hulu, I don't mind having to wait until the next day or week to watch a new episode of a show, HOWEVER, i am not happy that they do not get some shows until 30 days after they air. This is new and it's b/c they want you to sign up for their monthly membership plan and pay $.

We have netflix.... we don't even miss cable and hardly even use the bunny ears. Though I will say our viewing habits have changed a bit. We watch fewer shows now, and we watch things we enjoy more if that makes sense? There's so many things to choose from. We stream to the tv with the blu-ray in the living room and with a roku box in the bedroom, both of which work fine. The plus side with the Roku box is I can also stream Amazon purchases on it so if I get very impatient I can buy a show or movie to watch :rotfl: Amazon comes out with a bunch of free codes to use, especially if you buy other movies, so we haven't had to pay for many of our shows on there. We haven't ventured into paying for hulu yet, I'm not sure if we will but we were also living overseas for a few years and got very used to waiting an extra year for the release date for our tv shows so it wasn't much adjustment for us :upsidedow

I have been without cable for over 5 years now. At first we just watched the networks over-the-air, but about 2 years ago I bought a dedicated desktop for the TV (which has now been replaced with a machine I built myself). Anyway, that machine is running Windows 7 Pro, which has Windows Media Center (WMC).

WMC acts as a DVR, Media Player, and Internet streamer. It also has a Netflix plugin. I also use it to launch other applications, such as Hulu Desktop and Boxxee.

Another option would be to get a Blu-Ray player with Internet access. I recently picked up a Sony one at Costco for $95 (for DD's TV) which has netflix and Hulu, among other Internet sources. You can also plug in an external hard drive, or play from a network share.
