Everyone is sick of paying inflated gas prices. Here is a little tip to save a little on gas.

(This only applies to those filling their tanks on their own vehicles and who are not paying with a corporate acccount)

If you consistently pay for gas with a debit or credit card, you are paying a higher price at the pump. Instead, buy the prepaid gas cards at your local food store (i.e. Sunoco, Exxon, BP, etc). You can use the debit/credit card to purchase the prepaid gas card and when you present the prepaid card at the pump, you'll be charged the "cash price".

Are different cash/credit prices common in some parts of the US? They seem to be nonexistent in my state, but I'm seen them at truck stops along the interstate.

I wondered this too. I only know of one where I live (Williamsburg, VA) and it has such high gas prices that even the cash price isn't a good deal.

Thanks, good tip!! I JUST realized I was spending 10 cents per gallon more by using my debit card. They never used to do that, only in my knowledge the past 6-8 months here in CT/RI.

Must be a regional thing....there is no cash vs credit price around here.

one way we save on gas is we use a gas station in connection with one of our local grocery stores. we have a rewards card with them and gather up points when we get groceries, buy gift cards, get stamps or anything else we need. we get points real fast and save anywhere between 10 cents off a gallon or one time we got 60 cents off the gallon! but you can earn up to $1 off the gallon!

Gas stations in the Detroit area have been offering a "discount" to pay cash of anywhere from 5-12c for about a year now.

I just go to a handful of stations that don't charge more for credit.

Cash and Credit are the same price here.

When I'm in the area, I fill up at Sam's Club. It's usually 5-10cents cheaper than the others.

My daughter works at a Dunkin Donuts with a BP station attached here and when someone uses a BP gift card it counts it as credit. Which irritates customers but its the gas companies system or something...

Gas is the same price for cash or credit here. The Price Chopper supermarkets here give you $.10 off per gallon for every $100 you spend.
