Saving (hiding) money away for trip

I think it's so nice of you to want to do that for your husband especially since he gave you a chance to stay at your dream resort. Like @Marionnette said above, my husband knew I was doing Swagbucks and churning but he had no idea how profitable it was until I made a point to show him.
My situation was similar, but a bit different from yours. We already had our December trip booked but he began to have second thoughts and talked about cancelling. Rather than try to persuade him I just listened and then got busy earning Swagbucks, other rewards programs and churning. One night I took him to a casual dinner and presented my 'secret' earnings. He was amazed at what I had managed to 'earn' in 6 months. Our trip is back on!

As others said, only you know your husband. Hopefully, he will be thrilled that you wanted to give him this gift, and impressed with your ingenuity. :)

My most reliable earnings (besides churning): Swagbucks, Ibotta, Savingstar, mPlus Places, Shopkick, WalMart Savings Catcher.
Good luck!

We have a separate savings account at another bank. Also have the Disney Visa and DH travels a lot and puts all the travel expenses on our Disney Visa card. We use those dollars for dining & part of the room expenses

If you knew how many times friends and family members have been left with nothing because the husband emptied the bank accounts. That's one of the reasons Women should have an account with ONLY her name of it. Of course it will never happen to "you" but none of the people I knew thought it would happen to them.

My DH doesn't even know the logins for many of our accounts. All of our accounts are joint, I handle all the money, married 29 years, and no, I am not concerned. He couldn't get to my stocks because it is all online and he doesn't even know how to see them. I agree with tzolkin that each couple needs to have what suits them in types of accounts.

I also don't try to surprise him with things. We are going to Orlando in the fall, and I told him I booked Discovery Cove, dining with Shamu, etc.

Well of course you are an an adult and you do what you want but It's terrible advice. Personally I don't think my husband would do something like that to us but people are unpredictable I've seen it with my own eyes how women get screwed by "nice guys". And even if things are great it's always a good idea to have a little independence from your partner you were a person before you became a couple. My husband and I have joint and separate bank accounts they are not a secret nor do I try to hide money anywhere.

Have you thought about selling some things on Ebay or such and keeping that money in the Paypal account you set up?
He won't have to know about it, the money will be sitting there waiting for you, it won't involve going to work or taking money from other things your household needs. Or a yard sale....but he'd see that!

I have an envelope stashed away with money from items I sell from around the house. Just made $45 today selling a chair and 2 pic frames we don't use anymore.

All of these ideas are great. I know you said that you already pricing out your options, so if you are just trying to make up the difference from the resort he believes you guys are going to the one you are trying to surprise him with, then that shouldn't be too hard. Have that goal in mind, and if/when people ask you what do you want for your birthday, mother's day, Christmas, and any other special occasion tell them a Disney gift card. That will get you somewhat closer to your goal.

Your husband will at least know the trip will cost him X amount of money. If by the time you are going an you are short an extra $100 or so, why don't you say Disney's having a great deal that you can stay at his hotel for only another $X amount more and he may go for it.

But, seriously, I would use Swagbucks, coupons, pick up change (when you see it), and sell items to make up the difference. Especially since you are not going for over a year, just divide and see how much you are going to need daily, weekly, and monthly to make it work.

Surely you could replace 'husband' with 'spouse' and 'Women...her' with 'one...his/her'?

What if like, I locked it in a box and put the key in one of those time release things that waited till I left? oh wait....then I couldn't add to it....shut up erica! I dumb!
