Savannah?

We're spending a weekend in Savannah next month (found a great deal on the Hyatt riverfront). We've been there a couple of times, but it's been a few years. Any suggestions on what to do/eat/see?

A ghost tour, a trip to Bonaventure, and Lulus are all definitely on the agenda. Anything I need to add?

I have only been to Savannah once, but fell in love with the city! My favorite dining experience was The Pirate House. We also ate at the Olde Pink House and The Lady and Sons, but The Pirate House was my favorite. Definitely get ice cream at Leopold's. We went to Bonaventure and did a tour, I would highly recommend that as well. We did a hop on and off bus tour of the city, it was great but if you have been there you probably don't have a need for that. It rained most of our visit which kinda stunk, but it was July so it also helped keep them temperature down. We enjoyed just walking the squares and taking in the beauty of the city.

We always do the trolley tour with on/off privileges. We buy the 2 day ticket---about 40 bucks.
There are 2 specialized museums that are cool if the subject matter interests you. There is a ship museum and a railroad museum.

We were there exactly one year ago this week! We had breakfast twice at Clary's, it's in the book/movie Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil. Was very good and reasonably priced. We also went out to Tybee Island one day to walk along the beach and see the lighthouse, was a very relaxing day. We did no tours, but just walked a LOT, ate a lot and may have drank a lot too lol.

We did a ghost tour and the on-off trolley tour and went out to Tybee to tour the Fort - although I'm feeling you may have already done those things if you've been a couple times.
We loved lunch at Zunzi's Takeout - a little dive but delish and fun.We also enjoyed dinner at Paula Deen & Son's restaurant. Definitely get you a peach sangria at the City Market - maybe the best I've had while in Savannah.

Thanks guys - we might add a trolley to our plans. Other than going out to Bonaventure, I'd like to leave the car parked and walk everywhere and a trolley might alleviate a bit of distance. lol

We've done several ghost tours, but we love them, so will definitely do another. Groupon has tons of tours of all sorts. Any recommendations on specific tour companies? I know they're mostly all the same content, but we've had some guides that were awful.

If you can spend 2 full days, that will allow you to do a nice number of things, and not feel rushed.

Factor that in with your travel time to and from Savannah. Luckily we only have to drive about 4 hours.

I'd say at least 2 days if it's your first time. There are a lot of different things there. Tons of history in the historic district, there's beaches out on the island, amazing architecture everywhere.. I'm a huge history buff so we're staying in the historic district mostly. You can stay busy but not feel 'rushed' like at disney lol.
We're only 2 hours away so we really should go more often. We're also about 2 hours from disney, and the mouse usually wins (and is a bit cheaper believe it or not!)

We stayed 3 nights. But we arrived late afternoon on a Tuesday and left on a Friday morning. It was an anniversary trip for us and we are about 10 hours away, so we wanted to make the most of the time while our daughter was with grandparents I thought it was a great amount of time - I wish we could have arrived earlier on Tuesday or stayed longer on Friday because we never made it to Tybee.

I'm not sure if you just meant Ghost Tour, but we used Tim from Dash Tours for our Boneventure Cemetery tour and really enjoyed it! Wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

With 3 full days you will be able to do an even wider variety of things in the Savannah/Tybee Island area. It also gives you a buffer in case it rains and alters certain outdoor plans.

This. We went in July when its normally very hot and muggy. But it rained non stop for most of our trip. We would get a few hours where it would stop but touring at times was hard! Still loved the city though.

Savannah is what we call a wet county. Where dry counties you cannot buy alcohol, Savannah you have to.

I can imagine it would get annoying to someone who does not drink at all. Heck, I drink way more than I should and we had a tour guide that was similar in that he wouldn't shut up about booze that started driving me nuts.

They DID go through two prohibitions. They're making up for lost time They're also one of the few open container cities.

All this talk about Savannah is definitely making me consider a return trip - if only it wasn't so far from us for a quick weekend.
