We are going to Savannah, Ga Christmas night & staying 2 days. What area should we stay in? The historic, the market or the river area?

I am looking for a really nice hotel & suggestions for things to do.

Thanks! :goodvibes

We stayed at the Hampton Inn right on the river and it was wonderful! Ask for a corner room and you will have a view of the river out front and the street to the side. Let me find a link--- we were right across the street from steps that led down to River St. and all the shops. Here it is at 201 E. Bay St.

We took a carriage tour of the historic district, shopped at the market, ate at Lady and Sons and Uncle Bubba's Seafood (Paula Deen's brother's restaurant), walked around Forsyth Park and played ball with our daughter. It is a beautiful city! We also drove to Tybee Island. It's been several years, so I'm sure others will have some more suggestions as well!

Basically the market area and the riverfront are considered part of the historic district (when you do hotel searches). I'd definitely plan to stay on the river! While the market is interesting, you can easily walk there from the river and at night the riverfront is the place to be! So much to see and do (and eat!)

I have stayed at both Hampton Inn (not on the river, but across the street) and the Hyatt Regency (riverfront). I'd definitely recommend the Hyatt just for location, but, as a previous poster said, the Hampton isn't too bad either.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at 199 E. Bay Street in November and was very pleased with the accomodations and view, also the hotel included free breakfast.

While you are there try to go to Bonaventure Cemetery, it's worth a visit. Also, we enjoyed the dolphin tour. You'll love the city, it's really stunning. Make sure you walk as much as possible, you'll miss out on a lot of the city's charming details if you only view from a tour bus/trolley.

Thank You....the river it is. This is so last minute for me & I am a planner!

We spent a long weekend at the Savannah Desoto Hilton and loved it! Its in the historic district and is an easy walk to the riverfront.

I got an email form Travelzoo.com today w/ a special for the Westin Savannah River. You should be able to find it on the Travelzoo website. NICE hotel!!!

The Westin is beautiful, but it is on the *other* side of the river, with only a convention center and golf course. You have to take a water taxi across to the side with all the restaurants and the historic district. It's a nice ride, but a tad inconvenient if you are in a hurry!

Where should be eat Christmas night...If I can get a reservation.

Glad to hear, we are staying 8 nights there this summer! :)

OP thanks for starting this thread, I am going to save it for our summer trip!:thumbsup2

Our personal favorite is to find a Bed and Breakfast. We love the ones in Savannah, and they are in a beautiful area to walk around in. Eat at Paula Deen's Lady and Sons for me! Yum!
