I'm taking a solo trip in April 2026. My 5th solo. I usually stay at Port Orleans French Quarter but wanted to try a new resort. I like the idea of walking to Disney Springs. Can someone who stays there give me the pros and cons of staying here? It only cost me 200 more for 5 nights over French Quarter

The con, for me, is it's really spread out and feels very remote, IMHO. If I were doing a solo trip, I would stick with POFQ where no room feels too far from the lobby area. I got lost when I stayed at SSR. If I were to do it again, I would splurge for a preferred section room.

We loved it there. Ended up in the Grandstand section so a brief walk to the main building, as in there is a path that is less than 5 mins to the main bldg. If I was in one of the more distant buildings I probably wouldn't want to stay alone, but that all depends on you. Rooms are beautiful IMO. Buses were easy for us.

It's GINORMOUS. If you're used to staying at POFQ, it'll seem VERY VERY BIG.

The counter service isn't as good as the POFQ counter service, but that's standard resort wide, I always find the moderates have better counter services.

If you want to walk to Disney Springs, you'll want to book preferred.

We stayed here one night pre-cruise and it worked for that, but we were neutral about returning for a longer stay. (also we got a ride from bell services to our room with all our luggage).

I was there for my first few nights (was at a conference, DW came in later) solo and it was great. Yes it's a huge resort but I kinda liked it because I got some added steps in to offset the treat at Disney Springs. Also, shockingly very quiet and buses were never overly full except returning at the end of the night. Limited QS options but with DS across the water and me liking to venture, it worked out.

I've been there solo, often. Most of the negatives I could think of have already been mentioned. One additional plus: it is a very walkable resort. The paths are away from the roadways, and the landscaping has come in nicely. One that may or may not be a plus, depending on you: It will not hit you over the head with "YOU'RE AT WDW!" That might mean "it's not Disney enough" for you. Or, you might enjoy the resort's vibe, which I describe as casually sophisticated.

I did a solo trip there last year, and my room view looked across the street to the Congress Park bus stop. What does that mean? It was a short walk to Springs and really convenient to bus transportation. I was in room 6812 in the Paddock building.

If you like walking / running, there's a path to Old Key West if you want to visit another resort as well. Another path goes to the treehouse villas, though you don't get great views of them from the path (probably for the best for the folks staying there.)

Be aware the spa at SSR hasn't been open since 2020.

It is closer to Disney Springs, but your Disney Transport outside of the Sassagoula River Cruise are buses. No Disney Skyliner or other service to the parks, which is the downer for staying here. Luckily you’ll still be within boating distance if you wanted to say, dine at the Port Orleans restaurants. It truly depends on if you’re up to waking a little earlier just to accommodate bus travel time.

I've stayed at SSR twice. The first time we stayed in a studio in August. I didn't love the resort. Fortunately we had a rental car as it was just simply too hot to even attempt to walk to the main building. We did walk to DS one evening and it was a hike! We were in the closest non-preferred building. I can't remember the exact building.

I then stayed in a 1 bed this July. Again I had a rental car. I enjoyed myself more that trip, but again, without a rental car it would have been difficult. Both times my room was just steps from a bus station however.

I found the food court to be ok, but I prefer POFQ or POR much more on all counts.
