We were there and saw this gentleman - he really looked like Santa !!!

And, I say again, who are we to say he wasn't (isn't) (might not be) (was for some little kid) (could be for one of us if we lightened up)? :teeth:

I with you VIKI...

Like I said already, to close to Christmas for me to be getting him mad at me. I wanna stay on the nice list!

That is a great point. Disney does not own rights to Santa. They did not invent him. It's not like someone snuck in dressed up like Mickey Mouse. Again, where do you draw the line? It's all subjective. It's Christmas time...people go to Disney to celebrate the holidays. LET THEM HAVE FUN. The guy was harmless and cheers to him for having the Christmas spirit. That's great that he said, "ho, ho, ho." Would you rather him yell at the kids, "GET AWAY FROM ME!! YOU'LL GET ME IN TROUBLE!!" :rotfl2:

He did not have on a full Santa suit. HELLO!!! :rolleyes2 So what if he wore a Santa hat - They sell them there!!! It's Christmas!!!! Duh!!! :happytv:

I do have a white beard (I'm not King Triton for nothing).....does that mean I can't go to Disney World for the holidays??? :confused3
Should I worry about the Disney police if I wear something red??? :badpc:

Some people here are going to get a lump of coal in their stocking on Christmas morning. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

:rockband:

hmmmmmm....I would be more worried if my kids saw Santa hauled off in handcuffs than hearing him say, "ho, ho, ho."

:worship: ::cop: ::cop: ::cop:

EXACTLY!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Could NOT have said it better! :thumbsup2

slightly off topic - DH and I played the Clauses for a community group today. My 6 yo santa-believer got really ticked off that we were telling little kids that we were the real Santa and Mrs Claus. "You guys are LIARS!!!" He was in tears, but he told us quietly because he didn't want to make it worse. :rotfl2:

I can't help but think that the posts on this thread would be different if Disney didn't ask Santa to leave and he behaved innappropriatly. I think people would come unglued and say Disney didn't do their job and shouldn't have allowed Santa to stay.

I would of thought it was GREAT!!! For My DD to see a guy that looked like Santa at the park but now part of the park!! She woul of thought it was him for sure!!! If he did not come in any physical contact to any child what did he do in the wrong???

I am not so sure I want Disney enforcing those rules. Just think about how many costumes and accessories that they sell in their shops.
And what about during MNSSHP? Have you seen some of the costumes people wear? They are at least as realistic as some of the "face" characters, but I don't see them being asked to leave.

My last point is that WDW/Disney Land is the best place to "live the magic of a fantasy" why spoil it now?
My understanding is the at WDW an adult can only dress in a costume at MNSSHP. Kids can be dressed up anytime. This is not Miracle on 34th Street and Disney has the right to enforce this law on their private property.

i had not heard of this rule, and in fact last week saw a mom in a cinderella costume coming down main street with her 2 little princesses. my guess now would be that she had it in her bag and changed at cindy's?

We saw him in AK. Looked amazing and just like "Santa"

It made me take a second look....I tried to get a pic but could not through the crowd...

Several years ago on a trip to MK in December we sat and talked to a man and his wife that looks very much like the guy in the pictures. We chatted for over an hour waiting for the parade. They were both very down to earth people and a couple of the nicest people I have meet. They loved talking to people and the children that would ask. This guy did not say that he was santa but would ask the kids what they thought.

If he was causing a problem I agree with Disney but I would hope they would not jump the gun just because he dressed and looked like Santa.

Merry Christmas to all!!!

1) Damn!
2) I didn't even know that WDW had gotten the copyright for Santa.
3) Guess you learn something every day.
4) Sure hope they don't bring out a line of bowling balls.
5) Us bald-guys couldn't get into the parks due to our appearance.

Last August we began our day lining up at the Epcot gate with an adult surviver of Hurricane Katrina who was so dressed to the nines as a pirate he'd make Johnny Depp look like a landlubber - we talked for 20 minutes or so and he activated his AP and made his way through Epcot just fine. :thumbsup2

You can bet that people on here would be having a total fit that Disney did not do enought to protect their children.

This is a lose/lose situation for Disney. They did what they had to do. Can you imagine if this got good press, you could have all sorts of people showing up in costume, attracting crowds. Sorry, but this was not the place for this man to be putting on his Santa act. If a child approached him he should have said something like he admired Santa so much that he decided to look like him.

Who said he was immediately ejected? He chose to leave rather than give up his facade. The "guy at Peter Pan who blends in with the crowds" is NOT drawing the CHILDRENS' attention to himself like this guy. To compare the two is completely ridiculous. I suppose Mickey and Donald impersonators should be allowed as well? When I purchase our tickets to Disney or any other show, I'm there to see the PERFORMERS not the WANNABES.

For starters the only suggestion that he was was asked to leave and chose to do so came after I posted. All discussion of the event prior to that was that he was kicked out.

And we all know what it means when someone is "asked to leave." It really means "we're kicking you out." Anyone who "chooses" to leave under such circumstances likely does so because they don't see any alternative. When you are asked to leave, no is not an acceptable answer, and most people siomply comply, albeit begrudgingly. Even if they asked him to change his shirt, that's not much of alternative, as how many people walk around Disney with an extra shirt? I'm sure Disney already saw the damage as being done, and wanted him gone, regardless of whether or not he stopped saying he was Santa, because any of those kids who saw him later would still think he was Santa.

As far as the attention he is drawing, he's drawing EVERYONE's attention to him. Child molestors don't tend to draw EVERYONE'S attention to them.

Mickey and Donald are a completely different issue. Mickey and Donald are Disney characters. It's not even like he was walking around in full costume. He had a hat and a t-shirt that said he was santa.

So as long as he's not a child molester, it's okay to impersonate a character? And as far as it being "Disney's character" or not, it's PRIVATE PROPERTY. They have the right to make this policy. Those who disagree or are "sickened" by it are free to join the Santa wannabee at Six Flags.
