Sandy in New Jersey

Read a few posts above. These are people who actually know the workers. They're from Alabama not necessarily Huntsville.

Oh yes, the "personal" knowledge. Sorry but crews aren't being turned away because they aren't union, they are being redirected to other places that need the man-power.

As for the OP, you seem to have a lot of time on your hands. It would be a fabulous time to go out and volunteer to help your fellow humans.

I think Gov. Christie is doing a heck of a job!

BTW, the stories of the help being turned away are false!

http://blog.al.com/breaking/2012/11/huntsville_utilities_denies_cl.html#incart_river_default

Gov. Christie just spoke on this, he stated they were in fact given wrong information (meaning that yes, they were told they were not welcome but it was incorrect). So someone someplace told them they were not welcome. It was not from the higher ups or anyone with the power to say that but regardless it happened. It has now been clearly stated everyone willing to help is welcome. I do not think Christie will stand for any talk of anyone not being welcome to assist.

Anyway, we have had no power since Monday at 3pm/4pm. It sucks. I feel trapped. Today my dad and I tried to go to a sporting store but nothing, I mean NOTHING is open due to no power. I feel like Govenor Christie shouldn't have been showing Obama places but instead try to get power back on for people in New Jersey.

Apparently on my street the houses to the right have power and the houses to the left have power, but those houses who are in the middle (such as ours) have no power. I wonder why? I am stressed to the max even more then usual having no power to do anything. We have been playing Disney Edition Monopoly since Tuesday... Getting pretty boring. Other then playing Monopoly I have just been sleeping. Nothing to do except sleep when the sun goes down at 5 o clock. It Sucks Big Time.

No Wreck it Ralph for me this opening weekend which means I can not take part in the extra points on DisneyMovieRewards.com. ARGH. I just found out
that the local library is open and has internet service... Cue me...I drove in case other people had the same idea and it's only 2 blocks away. I have a full tank of gas which means I don't have to get in those regid lines....

When do you think gas lines will be normal again? I don't know. When will we have power? Rumor has it we won't have power till next Week! :scared1:
I can't handle no tv/no internet. Argh.....

On better note, I just did Online Check it. It was a pain cuz I forgot my password and apparently you need a credit card.

Wow, just Wow. Complaining of first world problems in a third world situation.

And I creeped on you and discovered you are an unemployed college graduate! Wow just wow-by this age I would think you'd know better! Get out there and volunteer. Maybe that will lead to a real job in the future.
And a Disney trip in 10 days? Gee, after Katrina that would have been the last thing on my mind with so many people in my area to help.

Sorry, but you need to get out there and help someone so that you'll stop feeling sorry for your situation.

Happy to see ths has been clarified.:)

I totally agree. On Staten Island, a woman had her 2 and4 year olds torn from her arms and drowned. She then had to spend the night (of the storm) on a porch of a random house bc she couldn't find anyone in houses to give her shelter. So, she sat up all night in the rain knowing she had just lost her children.

Think about that next time you're feeling bored.

Thanks for clarifying. I'm following Jersey Shore Hurricane News and they are trying to keep up with all the news while helping people find help. NJ would be foolish to turn any help away. Too many people need it.

My house was barely standing (after 4 feet of salt water came in) after a hurricane in 1989. My daughter was 16 months old at the time and was in an accident 5 days earlier in which someone accidentally closed her hand in a door and took off a finger (which we had surgically reattached). Things weren't so good, but it put things in perspective. I also knew that no matter how bad things were for us, there were so, so many others who would consider us lucky.

I do consider myself lucky that we don't live in area that is prone to earthquakes (since a big one in 1886) or tornadoes. At least we have advance warning and can plan, unlike others who deal with sudden natural disasters.

I know you're frustrated and venting may help, but there are plenty of folks who would gladly change places with you. Things will get better, hopefully for all who were affected by the storm.

Anderson Cooper talked about this poor woman today. Apparently she knocked on a man's door and he wouldn't let her and her children inside because "he didn't know her". What? In the middle of storm, we would leave a woman and her children outside in a hurricane. OMG! What kind of world do we live in?

We were on the Disney Fantasy when it followed Hurricane Sandy through the Bahamas (what a wide and crazy ride). We stopped at St. Thomas to visit some friends while on that cruise. We told them that the last we were hit by a storm here in Maryland, it took over a week to get out power back on. Then, we talked about storms that had hit St Thomas. The last storm that hit St. Thomas, our friends were without power for 2-1/2 months, yes, you heard that right. It takes time. Neither the Governor nor the President can get your power on overnight or even in a few days with the amount of destruction that Hurricane Sandy brought to the United States. Please take advantage of the things that you are offered - shelter, food and clothing. The power companies are working as hard as they can to bring you power. And, I hope that it is soon. You are in the thoughts and prayers of your fellow Americans.

Oh sigh, no Disney movie rewards for you. What a hardship!

I hate when people try to rile others up online by baiting them with silly posts like this (I didn't say the word!). I hate it even more when there's actual suffering going on.

Wow... OP this is a joke right? You honestly are pulling our legs with these complaints... please tell me you understand the severity of this and that you realize how lucky you and your family are...

I really hope this is a joke, if not OP can trade places with my 86 year old Nana who had to evacuate her house of 50 years on Sunday and can't get back on Long Beach Island. She and her DH have no clue what condition their house is in. But they are safe with family and looking at the latest helicopter shots from ABC 6 it looks like the house is still standing where it should be. :beach:

I have lost power for a week in an ice storm where my house got down to 40 so I can totally relate, but this is just totally insensitive. OP can post on DIS boards, so they obviously have some type of access to the outside world and should know what is going on.

Well the houses on both "ends" of our street have power, there are 12 houses in the middle that have no power because the power company says there is no power outage detected. WHAT!!! Grr. I am at the local library and I am stressed out. i know it can be worse but I don't want to twiddle my thumbs any more. Can't go out because i dont' want to waste gas cuz gas is now a problem to get. i just hope all this settles down fast.

Then go help those who actually have real problems because of Sandy. You won't twiddle your thumbs then!

Yo! I have been helping those who are in need, so you don't have to go all out on me. My aunt is down south and we have been helping her and her neighbors. So DON'T go all nasty on me.

DId i ask for your OPINION? NO. I did not.
If you think I am taking this personally, YES i am. I have done more good for people in new jersey then you give me credit for, I donate and help out neighbors and what-not. So DON"T tell me TO stop complaining about something small. Yes I know other people have it far worse then I do, But I too am helping out.

Yo.

Your post was privileged and self-centered, and if you think we went "all out on you" and that our replies were nasty, you're living a very sheltered life.
Whining about having the pleasure of playing Monopoly all week with your family? Really?

Your post was basically the epitome of what's wrong with our society and I was SO happy to see that it upset so many members here who called you out on it.
I know you didn't ask for our opinions, but there it is.

Carry on. I hope your cable's back on!

:worship::thumbsup2 Thank you!!!

I feel like a broken record lately, but here it is again: If you don't want opinions, don't post anything on a discussion board. Write it in your diary and leave the rest of the world out of it!

I hope the OP is a bored 13 year old...that's the only way her posts even remotely make sense.
:confused3

Thank you..yesterday I felt a 'little' sorry for the OP with some of the replies..but when she (?) posted this again today, I almost joined them..AMEN to this reply!

OP, you told us what you've been doing all week in your OP. Not one mention in there about helping out. You said you were getting bored... we gave you some suggestions so you would not be. Take it or leave it.

And as of Gov. Christie's last talk, his home is also still w/o power. You are not alone.
