Anyway, we have had no power since Monday at 3pm/4pm. It sucks. I feel trapped. Today my dad and I tried to go to a sporting store but nothing, I mean NOTHING is open due to no power. I feel like Govenor Christie shouldn't have been showing Obama places but instead try to get power back on for people in New Jersey.

Apparently on my street the houses to the right have power and the houses to the left have power, but those houses who are in the middle (such as ours) have no power. I wonder why? I am stressed to the max even more then usual having no power to do anything. We have been playing Disney Edition Monopoly since Tuesday... Getting pretty boring. Other then playing Monopoly I have just been sleeping. Nothing to do except sleep when the sun goes down at 5 o clock. It Sucks Big Time.

No Wreck it Ralph for me this opening weekend which means I can not take part in the extra points on DisneyMovieRewards.com. ARGH. I just found out that the local library is open and has internet service... Cue me...I drove in case other people had the same idea and it's only 2 blocks away. I have a full tank of gas which means I don't have to get in those regid lines....

When do you think gas lines will be normal again? I don't know. When will we have power? Rumor has it we won't have power till next Week! :scared1:
I can't handle no tv/no internet. Argh.....

On better note, I just did Online Check it. It was a pain cuz I forgot my password and apparently you need a credit card.

What do you think the governor should be doing?
Should he be out with a chainsaw cutting up trees and rehanging lines?

He's the governor. His job is to govern. His job is to secure you federal disaster assistance, which is what he was doing with the president. I'm sure he's doing everything he can.

I just got power back after five days. In the past year in CT I've been without electricity for three storms and a total of 25 days altogether. I get it. It's frustrating.
But here you are on the internet complaining about your loss of your tv and cable when many people lost their homes/ cars/ lives.

You'll be fine. :goodvibes

I believe Gov. Christie showing Pres. Obama the devestation will lead to funds to help rebuild the destruction Sandy caused. Something Mayor Bloomberg chose not to do. :confused3

BTW, you should thank your lucky stars that all you have to deal with is no power. There are victims that have no homes.

Its a hurricane. I realize its frustrating but there are people who have lost homes and family members. In the big scheme of things and in the history of bad storms, its only been a couple of days . Heck I was without power for 4 weeks after Hurricane Andrew. Your house is apparently on a different grid than your neighbors. After lowly hurricane Wilma , I was without cable/internet for almost 2 weeks.

The governor or the President cannot get your electric back. It will come on as they can fix it. As far as gas, the stations need power and the oil tankers need to get in. The police, fire rescue and emergency services need gas just as much as you do.

I get it, its a pain and its frustrating but patience is what you need coupled with a dose of gratitude that it wasn't that bad for ya :). Ive always said the hurricane isn't the scary part, its the aftermath that is a pain.

OP, I understand all too well your frustration. I hated the gov't officials photo ops as well. It really won't help to get more money to places because there are officials on the ground who see to that. One thing helped me to was to get out of the house and walk. The walls of the house begin to close in on you. As much as I dislike WalMart, they usually have generators. It was a relief to go there and see some sense of normalcy.
Complain away if that's what it takes to relieve some of your stress.

While you are at the library maybe you can find a couple of books to read? :confused3

Sorry, I just had this summer vacation flashback ...

"Mooooommmmmmmmmmmm, I'm bored!!!"
"Read a book!!!!"

I do understand your frustration. But hang in there. It will get better. We just got our power on yest.

My aunt and cousins live in NJ. Some of them down the shore. My one cousin is trapped on their second floor as the water was too high to come down safely and my other cousin got evacuated from his 2nd story apt. as the lst floor apts. had about a foot or more of water.

To pass the time, try writing a list of things you are thankful for.

Pull it out at Thanksgiving and read it around your table. It will really put things into perspective for you.

Last night we were thanking God for hot showers etc.

We just got back internet but no cable. You make do and count your blessings. Help others in ways that you can etc.

Wishing you all the best.

Really? :headache: Wow. I know that being without electricity is frustrating. I have been there and was for this storm also. We just got it back last night. There is plenty to do, we just need to cut the dependency on electronics and you would be amazed at how busy you can keep yourself.

Talk to family members, read a book. help a neighbor. People are dumpster diving for food, they have no home to go to, no bed to lay down in at night, their family members have died. We need to keep things in perspective. While it's frustrating not having electricity maybe we just need to learn to be grateful that everyone we know and love is actually alive! If the worst you have to worry about is being bored, then consider yourself very, very lucky.

I think you need to take a step back. Do you really think the Govenor Christie isn't working trying to get power back on in NJ??? Do you expect him to go house by house and get the power back on himself.

I am usually not one to say things like "be grateful for what you have", but right now given this situation and the effect is having on people, complaining about not being able to use your Disney Movie Reward Points seems pretty petty.

I agree. I know this hurricane stuff isn't familiar to most east coast residents but lots of the country has dealt with this. It sucks but really? Can't see a movie for reward points. I know the OP is frustrated. After a storm (that got NO national media coverage or help) in Memphis I was w/out power on an island for more than 2 weeks. Hurricanes, tornados, flooding...it all sucks. People are working as fast as they can. Be grateful, humble.

If the OP is bored can you help with clean up in a harder hit area? What are you doing to help people worse off than you?

You would likely be getting it faster if this sort of thing wasn't going on:

http://www.waff.com/story/19981857/some-nonunion-ala-crews-turned-away-from-sandy-recovery

There may be a problem with that particular power company, but I've seen dozens of "Alabama Power" trucks throughout the area the past few days. It's too bad that company and the unions here can't temporarily put aside any issues.

Jim

Bye the way, there's plenty of gas stations open in South Jersey with just the normal amount of business. If any in northern Jersey is desparate, it might be worth wasting 1/4 tank of your current supply and drive down south.

I feel your frustration.

A month after dh & I got married in May 2000 we lost power for the w/e. We got our wedding gift money & bought a generator & thankfully there was one at Home Depot. Our neighbors clued us in that power was frequently lost where we live since all we heard was generators running.

We have used it here & there since we bought it.

Last year after Irene we had it on for 8 days. Thankfully those days it was beautiful out so my kids could play outside & I could sit out there with a magazine/book.

The snowstorm we only lost it for a few hours.

This storm, we lost it Monday at around 4:30 & we are still on that wonderful wedding gift, the generator.

My neighbor has a tree thru his roof. My friend down the road has a tree on her roof (not as bad as my neighbor) but she has power.

We are a section of about 50-60 houses that don't have power in my town-there are a few more areas but everyone around us does.

There is a pole that is cracked at the top. It hasn't fallen yet but it isn't safe. Not sure when we are going to have power but I am just about at my breaking point. I know people have it worse then me right now with the loss of lives & possesions.

My kids, like many others have not had school this week either. Thankfully the fights aren't too bad.

To top it off, my dh took this week off so we could paint/fix the cracks/chips in the ceiling. Instead he has been taking our generator to his moms to give her power/heat. I have no problem with that but his lazy brothers I do have a problem with. One just got power during the night & has a generator. Do you think he could of called my husband to say "take my generator to moms" No he just figured my dh would disconnect us & bring ours over. Thankfully I found out he had power via facebook (someone lives near him).

So yeah..going outside now so my kids can play & I can freeze.

We had been powerless since 6:30pm Monday. Just got our power back today at 1pm.
I KNOW it's frustrating-the governer can't do anything more to help the power get back on more quickly though.
Best advice-find a generator. I am seeing that stores are getting shipments. call a friend that has power, ask if you can borrow their generator.
Because we went out and bought a generator, we had the fridge, TV, internet, lights, a space heater..we were 100% fine-except for making sure we had gas for the generator and even that we managed.

Hi!! :cheer2: Haven't seen you around in a while. You are right, that area loses it constantly. Seemed like we were always losing it when we where down the street from you and of course, it's one of the last areas to get it back up and running again.

It's a nice quiet area, but because there is nothing out there but a few homes, it totally gets ignored till last. Hope you guys get it back soon. I understand how frustrating it is and with little ones, it seems even worse!!

That two block walk could have done you some good. Don't worry school will startup again to take away your bordom.

We have been without power, phones, internet (using mobile hotspot and a generator now) since around 3pm on Monday. There are power lines laying across the road which is the only way in or out of our lake community, attached to those lines is a pole that is snapped in half with a transformer dangling. Without driving over power lines we are all trapped in here. The power company is aware and their only answer was to call 911 if we need to leave :headache:

No one has power for miles around us and there are still a bunch of trees, poles and lines that need to be replaced before they will get to us. Gas lines are ridiculously long, our best option is to drive to PA to get gas (after driving over the power lines to leave the community). Getting to PA normally takes 40 minutes, with roads blocked it could be an hour or more easily but it is what everyone is doing to be able to have generator running to heat our houses and have water. We all have wells and septics, no power = no water. Right now I am wishing we had a fireplace or wood stove to help heat the house as well. And now they are calling for a possible snow/wintry mix storm early to mid week next week.

It is not fun but we are all dealing with it. Count your blessings. We are alive and fortunate enough to have the means to be able to complain on an internet forum, how bad can things really be?? We will get through this :grouphug:

And...are there trees down in your area? If there is, get outside and go help your neighbors--I'm sure they're out there cutting the trees and limbs down and clean up the yards. Go outside and help them--carry the wood and stack it or whatever needs to be done. Volunteer to help at a shelter. That's what my cousin's DD is doing up there. Today she is cleaning up the house for her mom because her mom's working 12+ hour shifts at the hospital.

Look beyond yourself and your boredom and help someone else. I'm sorry but you complaining about "not being able to live without TV and Internet" at a time like this is just selfish. You've shared your feeling of low self-esteem on here and I have a lot of sympathy for you. However, now you can look beyond yourself and help your friends and neighbors. And if you do not KNOW them, now is a good time to get to know them.

I'm from Long Beach Island and my heart is breaking for my friends and family up there and for my Island, that I dearly love. I would love to be in your shoes to actually be able to DO something to help besides sending money and prayers. Please, make yourself available and useful--I promise it'll make you feel MUCH, MUCH better. As you give, you actually get.

Since your house isn't sitting on top of you and you have a working car with gas in it you aren't actually trapped. My best advice is to suck it up buttercup. Life is hard and unfair at times.

This coming from someone in a community that got hit but considers herself very lucky that all we endured was a few days w/o power.

How about going to see if a neighbor could use help with yard cleanup?
