Sandy in New Jersey

She's an adult, PP. Read her trip report. I'd have more compassion had it been a 13y/o. Sadly, that isn't the case.

If you are unemployed and living at home, are YOU actually donating food and money, or are your parents?

I agree with other posters that this might be a great opportunity for you to boost your self-esteem and confidence by getting out there and making a difference. While I too wouldn't be out lifting heavy logs, I could easily rake up smaller branches, stack wood, help clean gutters, help cook/clean at a shelter, etc. Think about how much more you'll enjoy your upcoming vacation if you can do something good for yourself and others in the next few days. :)

We have an elderly (very spry, but he is in his 70s) neighbor across the street. We are in MA, and fortunately, were without power for only about 24 hours. He however had a tree bounce off his roof, and land on his deck, taking out one of the railings.

The 1st thing my 15 year old DS said on Wednesday morning was that he wanted to go help Mr. B. He texted 2 of his pals who live within walking distance, and the three boys cut all the small branches off the tree, cleared them away, cleared his deck as best they could, blocked off the ramp leading to the damaged deck, and then raked his leaves.

It kept them busy when they were out of school, but could have gone. Helped out a neighbor who really needed it, and are continuing to learn that it's really "NOT all about them".
It sounds like you are raising a wonderful young man Debster! :thumbsup2 You must be very proud of him.

Sorry, I have a 13 yo & we lost power for a few days because of sandy. Trust me we'd have a come to Jesus moment if she ever sounded as spoiler as the op. I count my blessings that all we had was a power loss & a messy yard.

Oh, me too!!

:thumbsup2 Now that's what I'm talking about. Love this post and I know Mr. B did too. I am sure he could not brag on your son and his friends enough to all who would listen!

Yes those teens give me hope whereas the OP brought chills of freight to my spine about our future..

OP take heed. You are old enough to know better -- you are a college grad after all are you not?

Just to let you know I make money selling stuff on ebay. I used my own $$ to help out. Why do people here seem to have more time to spend on posting negative stuff then good?

i have a PTR going and I wish I was getting as much replies on that as I am getting on here.
