Sanaa Restaurant at Kidani Village

I'm glad it is a table service. Why would we need more burgers and fries from a CS?

Since there is no Counter Service dining at Kidani, I think you can count on there being a fountain dispenser either at the pool bar or around the gift shop. They will probably have pre-made sandwiches and salads in the gift shop as well, along with the usual assortment of grocery items.

Thank you so much, that's great news!

We really like the table service resturants at Disney and had a great time at Boma before we became DVC members. I'm looking forward to trying Sanaa and Jikos next visit in 2010. YUM! popcorn::

Wow! Thanks for moving the thread over to the DVC board. I didn't even think about posting there. Thanks everyone for all the information.

I'm very excited about this restaurant. I'm hoping that they will keep it 1 TS for at least it's beginning months, of course that's assuming it will be on the dining plan. We are staying at AKL from May 9 to 16 this year. I hope that it will be open by then or maybe a soft opening.

dianeschlicht, Did i read correctly that Kidani is opening May 1st? If so than we may get to eat at Sanaa if it opens at the same time.

Last question, will I be able to make reservations for Sanaa? I'm sure if they do take reservations they will only open up shortly before the restaurant is ready to open. If they don't take reservations and the restaurant is open during our vacation, how do we make sure we can eat there?

This vacation is for our third anniversary and my third mothers day. This would be a nice added bonus to get to eat at a brand new restaurant.

Thanks again!

I'm really hopeful that Sanaa will be equivilant to Jiko's. There are plenty of counter service, run of the mill, places to eat. Another restaurant with some more exotic offerings would be nice.

We are certainly hoping for a more Indian flavor with curries etc :)

Claire ;)

Not me! I'm deathly allergic to curry, and I can't eat at BOma because they seem to hide it in everything there. THat's why I prefer Jiko.

I don't understand how folks can go to WDW and afford to eat TS meal after TS meal, even with the dining plans. For an average weekly trip 2-3 TS meals (mostly at lunch) is all we do. But we do many more CS meals. That doesn't mean burgers and fries. There are plenty of other CS restaurants that have interesting items on the menus. I guess it all comes down to where you want to put your money and eating expensive meals is just not one of our choices. Our goal in joining DVC was to make our Disney trips much more affordable and saving money on meals is part of the plan. That's how we can go 2-3 times a year.

I go to WDW solo, and I have a food budget of 1,100.00 and I go for 10 days. I almost always speend it all plus extra, like water, soda, icecream. Soo the food is very expensive!

OP, we are checking in the day you are checking out, and, except for our first night, we will be staying concierge. I have already spoken with her about what ADRs we want, and Sanaa is one of them- she said it would be opening with Kidani on May 1, so I'm hoping she was right!:thumbsup2

I agree with you WolfPackFan. I used to think similarily about people who raved about all the dining options at the BWV/BCV. Yes there's Cape May, SPoodles, Flying Fish (then the nearby offerings at the S&D hotels).....but our family of 5 cannot afford to eat at sit down TS meals 24/7. We maybe splurge on 4-5 TS meals per a week's stay. And it's not just the money on TS meals. It's the time. Eating most meals at TS restaurants would consume a good amount of vacation time for sure. And most TS locations require ADR's 60-90 days in advance and then you become tied to the places you chose to dine at 90 days ago. So 90 days ago I made ADR's for Crystal Palace. I get to the MK and it is packed and I want to park hop but feel I need to stay because my dinner will be in 2 hours. Anyway....there are many reasons people like and favor good CS meal locations.

We love Mara. The African stew bread bowl is awesome. My kids loved being able to run down there and bring pumpkin soup and zebra domes back to the room. My youngest thought the pizza was yum. So count me in as one who will greatly miss having a CS at Kidani. And I agree again WPF....it's not all burgers and fries for CS. We've gotten ribs, ceaser salads, soups, flatbread pizza, pitas......so NikkiBell.....burgers and fries is definitely not what we eat on a regular basis at WDW CS. Like I said, that African Stew at Mara could just as easily be an offering at a TS restaurant.

As far as Sanaa info. I got this from the allearsnet.com site :

Construction continues on the Kidani Village with an opening date of May 1, 2009 for Phase I. All amenities will open in May including the pool, restaurant, and Pembe Savanna. Animals are already in the process of being acclimated to Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I for one CAN'T WAIT to try this new restaurant. Part of the fun of a Disney trip for DH and I is the food! We don't eat out much at home, but look so forward to eating out and having all kinds of food when we're in WDW.

And we like DIFFERENT stuff. I can get normal food at home. I like trying new and exotic foods as much as possible. We'll be staying at AKV in June, so I can't wait to try Sanaa!!!!!

Oh me too.....just not feasible to dine there every night of our vacation.......that's why I think it's nice to have a CS at the resort too.

I know what the wdw site says but when I talked to a cm at ms today she said that sanna would be a signature dining exper., and that there would also be a cs venue.
I'm thinking to myself that it would be strange since there is NO information about anything like this on the website. Just thought I would throw this out there though.:confused3

With all due respect, you think the food at Disney's resturants is "exotic"? It's just expensive and more importantly; overpriced given the quality (As a general rule. There are a very few exceptions, like Yachtsman.). Ya'll really need to get out more. :)

I think I was the one that used the term "exotic" and yes, I do think Boma is exotic and it sounds like the new Sanaa will be also.

What part of Eastern NC are you from? I grew up in Greenville.

Sorry if I mis-quoted someone else. :)

I'm in Wilson. :)

I have to say I'm not excited about it at all. They already have two full service restaurants at AKL, Jiko and Boma - both with exotic food. Why do they need a third one? I would have much preferred a counter service restaurant like Mara.

Right there with you!! With young kids, unfortunately, I have zero use for a table service restaurant. Would love another counter service like Mara.

MiaSRN62, I really liked the African stew bread bowl too. DH had a nice fish dinner there one night. That's what I like about Mara, the kids can always get the nuggets/pizza, etc, but they also offer more than the usual counter service fare. I'm hoping Kidani will re-consider, and offer a counter service place too.
