My wife and I are big fans of Indian food. Last year when we went on the dining plan, we were a bit disappointed that despite the diverse dining options there wasn't any Indian restaurant. So we're pretty excited to hear Sanaa, despite AKL's African theme, serves Indian food.

So... what's it like? Is it worth it? We're probably a bit spoiled since we live in an area with a high Indian-American (India Indian-American?) population, so there are so many great places by us, but we're also not too picky. We may not make it to Sanaa on our next trip, but we're definitely wondering if it's worth giving a go in the future.

I have been there twice and would not consider anything I ate with the possible exception of the nan bread to be anything like authentic Indian food. Not enough spice in the dishes that should be spicy, too much spice in dishes that aren't supposed to have so much.

First visit there on May 31 was excellent - the second one on June 26 was marred by service and food preparation issues. None of the friends I went with in June are interested in returning - it was their first experience there. I might not return myself if that had been my first experience, but since it wasn't I am going back in September.

We had lunch there in June, and enjoyed it very much, in large part because we had a great view of very active animals right outside the window, and the server was excellent. The food was good, but not fantastic. Absent the great view and service (and a couple glasses of wine), we probably would have been underwhelmed.

I agree with PP that it is not really Indian for the most part --- I would describe it as Indian influenced, and then somewhat of a senselessly (confused, not really hot) spicey mix of Asian, African and South Asian flavors. We liked the appetizers most -- next time we plan to share a bunch of apps and skip entrees (we're not on DDP, so we're flexible).

You might enjoy it for something different and fun, with great theming, as long as you don't expect full on Indian cuisine!

We have been twice and love it! It is more "Indian-inspired" than authentic Indian, but the food was excellent both times. The first time the service was great, and the second time, even though we had the same server, service was not so great.

We love the bread service, and get all three naan. We tried the appetizer sampler, and decided the second time to just get samosas. We have only been for lunch, so I'm not sure about the dinner entrees, but my favorite is the tandoori fish.
