What's your favorite meal from San Angel Inn? Everytime I go I get the pollos a las rajas, but I really want to venture off and try something different! Any thoughts? I don't like fish...so none of those entrees for me! I'm considering the Sirloin Con Chile Relleno...anyone ever have it? Feedback would be great !

Thank you :goodvibes

YES! THE SIRLOIN! I also love the pollo a las rajas, but that sirloin is even better. And if you are so inclined, don't forget the avocado margarita.

The menu has changed some since the last time I dined at the San Angel Inn. Last October I had a pork tamale there that was smothered in a red sauce. I can only describe the level of heat in that sauce as "inferno." I've never had anything so spicy at the San Angel Inn before. It was delicious, though I found myself wishing that the restaurant sold horchata to temper the heat.

Ah thank you! I had a feeling the sirloin would be a good choice! ;) I'm so excited to try it now that was just the response I was looking for!! And that other thing you posted sounds interestingg....

did I mention I'm finally fully legal for this trip ;)
EPCOT here I come !!! Sooo excitedd !!

DH and I went there for the first time in May. It became my instant favorite. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the pollos a las rajas.

I imagine the sirloin will be just as amazing. kudos to you wanting to try something different! I'm so boring, i always end up getting the same thing.

Whenever we go we do the chicken dish which is very very good.

They changed the menu some. I had a few beef tacos last December that wasn't on the menu in May :(

I've read about the dishes being quite spicy recently. Any thoughts on the heat level of the new menu items?

I cant remember what its called, but its the Mole sauce.....awesome! its a chicken dish, too!:thumbsup2

I always get the Pollo a las Rajas as well, so delicous! My DH had the Sirloin Asado con Chilaquiles this year and he loved it! I had a small sample of his and it was quite tasty :).

Well, I am still in mourning from the loss of my favorite, the Crab Tostados...:sad1:

I don't even rembmer what we ate when we were there in may, I was so depressed :lmao:
But then, alas, the Avocado Marguerita took my pain away :lovestruc

The sirloin is no longer offered. Here is the latest menu:

I'm also curious about the menu items. Here are the current menu items. Can anyone comment on them?

Mole Poblano
Grilled chicken breast served over poblano rice, with a classic "mole", made with nuts, spices, chiles and a hint of cocoa

Mahi-Mahi a la Veracruzana
Grilled fillet of fresh Mahi-Mahi prepared with capers, olives, bell peppers, spanish onions and tomatoes, seasoned with white wine, and spices, served over poblano rice

Tilapia al Huitlacoche
Pan seared Tilapia fish, served with "Huitlacoche" - corn mushroom rice, and shrimp sauce

Pollo a las Rajas
Grilled chicken breast served with red peppers & onion cream sauce, poblano rice, and queso fresco

Chile Relleno
Poblano pepper stuffed with pork, pine nuts, and almonds, topped with roasted tomato sauce

Lomo de Puerco en Pipián
Pork tenderloin served over roasted vegetables and "pipián" - pumpkin, chiles and almond sauce

Camarones a la Diabla
Roasted diabla-style shrimp with poblano rice, served over yuca puree and cascabel chile sauce

On our last trip alone we ate there and the food was not that good I'm glad to see its gotten better since then. But the table we got was awesome. front and center lagoon and volcano.

Glad someone pointed out the no sirloin, that was clearly my choice. Now I'm not so sure about dinner here. Obviously if anyone's had the newer items, how are they?

It is however, still on the lunch menu, hmm....

Ooh good to know. Another family may be joining us on our upcoming trip and this is one of the places they said that they have to return to. They said it was one of the best meals on their last trip. Unfortunately, I am not a very adventurous eater and also don't understand all of the Mexican meal terminology, so I didn't really see anything that made me hungry (or that I knew what it was!) on the dinner menu. Maybe we'll just book a late lunch. If you book a 4:00 ADR you can still get lunch right?

Not sure about the 4 pm lunch. They also changed the layout

carne asada a la Tampiqueña sounds like it could be a very good meal :). Altho its not on their menu, obviously they're still working out the kinks. But yea after running a marathon, I'm hoping for a very satisfying meal :). Worst case I suppose I drink my calories for the night :).

Just there last week & the Carne Asada a la Tampiquena was the meal we all chose. It was very good. Got the tacos de filete for appetizers & that was very good also. Our only problem was there was a long line just waiting to check in so we waited a very long time for a table. One guy talked to the hostess & asked what was taking so long & if maybe they had overbooked the restaurant......I really don't think she understood what he was saying & just nodded her head yes.....Soooooooo he talked to the mgr. Right in the little part where you check in and wait for your table. He just went on & on & on getting on everyones nerves & the manager was just so nice & patient. We finally got seated & the manager certainly made a good presence in the dining room, walking around & talking to the diners. On his first stop at our table we discussed the change in the salsa. Used to be pico de gallo and now is some kind of chipotle salsa. He asked if we needed anything & 8yr old granddaughter informed him there were no crayons for the kids menu, lol. So he promptly had some brought to her.

I LOVE this place. Haven't been since they've made all of the changes but can't wait to try the new appetizers and, of course, the "old" margaritas.

Not sure about the long tables though.... I've always thought the atmosphere was intimate and romantic. Don't know how romantic it will be sitting at a table with a dozen other people....
