We received a year membership to Sam's as a gift. What are your favorite items to buy there? What are the best deals?

We like the POM brand of toilet paper, Lipton Lemon Iced Tea mix, rotisserie chickens, salad greens, peeled garlic and the hotdogs, pizza and drinks near the exit.

Meat- whole pork loin, chicken, beef tenderloin

gatorade
beef jerky
chips
hummous
cheese
torrillas

Not everything is a good deal. You need to know your prices and what your family will use before it goes bad.

what sold us on the membership was the price of milk and butter! It truly pays for our membership!

now its the price of peanut butter!!

peanut butter is a great deal. We also get granola bars and whole bean coffee.

The fresh meats are usually pretty decently priced (some do have the added salt water though).

I get all of our Pull-Ups, baby wipes, bread, canned foods, frozen snack foods, chips, school snacks (individually packed items and juice boxes), meat, pantry staples (sugar, flour, spices, condiments), detergent, fabric softener, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner at Sam's because they are cheaper than the other stores in our area. I don't usually get any of their fresh fruits of veggies because they are usually pretty damaged in the store and rarely last more than a few days once we get them home.

I would suggest that you take your storage space into account when you are shopping there because it is very easy to end up with more than your can comfortably store.

I buy our vitamins and my allergy meds there. I buy the store brand equivalent of Claritin. 400 pills for $12!!!
We buy dog food, toilet paper, meat, tomato sauce, flour, hashbrowns.

We also just received a gift membership there from DH's company. I will definitely have to check out the allergy medicine prices! Does anyone know if they have children's zyrtec (or the generic equivalent). We go through tons of that with DS! DH also takes Allegra, do they have a generic for that as well?

Not local enough for us to be worth milk and butter.

The only problem I have with warehouse stores is the snack/junk food. We buy stuff like the package of single serving chips and such, but if we get 50% more in a package for the same price, we just end up eating 50% more in the same amount of time.

I am on my 4th day of pulled pork sandwiches for lunch from the 2 Sam's pork shoulders I bought for a party last Saturday. I am pretty much porked out. Gave a ton away, ate for lunch and dinner Sunday, lunch for work for 3 days and there's still a good bit left.

Sam's is good for parties, or if you live close, but I can't figure out how to start stocking up with limited budget. I could spend $3-400 at Sam's and not have to purchase that stuff for a long time, but $250/trip is our budget limit, so we wouldn't have the money for a large run, nor money for other grocery necessities.

Sam's is great for anytime you have to take treats etc, to your kid's school or other events. The snack aisle has lots of things in bulk.

We also get our paper products- toilet paper, paper towel, and tissue from there. Those are things that won't go to waste in our house when be buy the bigger packages at Sam which saves money. We actually make up the price of a membership pretty fast on those things alone.

We actually buy quite a few books at Sam's- both for DD and for me. They can have some really good prices on books. I've also seen good prices on DVDs and video games.

Recently, I found some Kenneth Cole coats there for a really good price and they also had some Tommy Bahama robes. Didn't buy either, but I thought about it.

I just like to browse through occasionally to see what deals might be there. You just have to know what the things cost other places, to know if it is a good deal at Sam's.

was.. Because its usually 10 to 15 cents a gallon cheaper than other stations in the area.

I just filled up for $2.99 a gallon!

Cat litter. 42 lbs of Fresh Step is $12.98
In the fall in stock up on toilet paper, paper towel, kleenex, toothpaste, canned veggies, tide, snuggle, cat litter & health and beauty stuff. Then we are all set till spring which makes my grocery shopping in the cold winter months a lot easier since all I need to get are perishables such as veggies, fruit, bread, & milk.
You will enjoy the membership.

Our regular buys at Sam's:
Milk, k-cups, bread, butter, shredded cheese, frozen pizza, toilet paper and paper towels, diapers.

if your sam's has a gas station - our is always cheaper than nearby stations

I buy just about all of my meat there. I have a business membership so I can go early and grab what's been marked down. I have a freezer in the basement and DH got me a Food Saver for Christmas so it really helps. The last time I got ground beef, it was under $2.00 for 90%.:woohoo: I just used the last of it a few days ago.

I also LOVE their cakes with whipped cream frosting.

Other favorites include, baby wipes, Tabasco sauce and olives for DH's bloody mary ;), pasta, spaghetti sauce, Rosen rye bread, Pub Mix, barrels of pretzel rods, American cheese slices, Country Crock tubs...

Every time I go, I walk each and every aisle because you never know what deal you may find. Recently I got S'more kits (a box of graham crackers, bag of marshmallows and 18 full size Hershey candy bars) for $2.01 a box.

Cheese Balls. No really Sam's cheese balls are a girls trip tradition the ones in the clear plastic container.

Dog Food, K cups, Wine. Allergry Meds

Kae

Another Sam's Club tip is that if you see a price that ends in a '1', that's a clearance price - and when they clearance, they really clearance!

KC:santa:

We buy our dog food there. I can't find it cheaper anywhere else and our dogs love it. I also get paper plates, plastic forks, knives... anything for parties basically... frozen foods, canned stuff & snacks for the kids. They have boxes of fruit snacks that are so much cheaper than in the regular stores. Our membership has been out for about 4 months now but we're just coming to an end of using up all the stuff we bought from our last trip so I'm hoping for a membership from my MIL for Christmas otherwise we'll be renewing it soon after.

Baby formula is a TON cheaper, diapers, chewing gum (my husband goes through it like crazy), meat, milk, generic (adult) Zyrtec, Venus razorblades. I LOVE the bakery at ours, but I don't buy very often (or I'd add an extra hundred pounds or so). We also buy books & DVDs as gifts fairly regularly.

Sorry for posting twice but I wanted to add in that we use the Click & Pull option. We can order everything online and when we get there, they will bring up your carts full and all you have to do is pay for it. It keeps us from impulse shopping throughout the store and spending more money and it takes us a LOT less time. Our nearest Sam's is a 40 minute drive so we "maybe" go there once every 2 months or so.

My deceased BIL bought my SIL a BEAUTIFUL amethyst bracelet one yr for almost half the price the same one was at a jewelry store. So if u r interested I think the jewelry prices for good quality pieces r there.;)

cottage cheese is our biggie. we eat a lot of it. We can get 5 lbs at Sam's for $6-7... it is $3-4 per pound at the grocery store.

Also the kids Clif Zbars, party stuff, sometimes we'll pick up what they are sampling if we really like it.

But IMHO their best deals are on their cakes. A full sheet cake for around half the cost of the grocery store, 30 decorated cupcakes for $13 ($7 a dozen anywhere else).
