Do you or have you ever eaten the salted shell of the peanut?

This is something my dad always did and I got it from him. DH thinks it's the weirdest thing, I never gave it a second thought. :confused3

I used to eat them in college. Now I'll just suck on the shell before I eat the peanuts. I love the shell - nice and salty.

There were two peanuts walking down the street, one was a salted. :)

I never tried the shell of a salted peanut but I would think it would get stuck in my throat. No?

Mmmmm.....peanuts.

I guess I should put my whole answer now...

I do still eat them on occasion. I DON'T eat them at places like Texas Road House because you don't know who's hand has been in that bucket before you. If they are in a sealed packed right from the factory I'll eat them.

It depends on how young the peanut inside is. If it is really young, yes, I've eaten the shell, too.

Man, I miss peanuts. Yummy yummy!

No, but when I was a kid I used to eat even the tail part of fried shrimp - just like my dad did. I don't anymore :crazy2:.

I love to eat the peanut in the shell. I have always thought that shelling peanuts is an awful lot of work for 1 or 2 little nuts. :confused3 Plus it seems wasteful to me to throw away more of the peanut than you actually eat! LOL

I always eat the shell, my DH thinks it is the weirdest food habit I have!

Growing up, I always ate popcorn shrimp (I called them fish legs). When I was 18, my mother and I went out to eat and the only shrimp on the menu was the bigger kind with the tail. I had never had that kind before. Halfway through my meal my mom asked me what I was doing with the tails. I asked her what she was talking about. She pointed out the hard end thing and told me it was the tail and you were supposed to take them off. :rotfl: I don't eat the tails anymore. It makes it easier to eat big shrimp. The only problem is when you leave the tails on the plate, it leaves evidence for how much you have eaten.

Oh, and I have NEVER in my life heard of people eating peanut hulls. I once worked at a pet wholesale warehouse and we used crushed peanut hulls for rodent bedding.

Never heard of it, that's one of the weirdest food habits I've ever heard of. Do you eat sunflower seed shells too if you eat peanut shells?

I have never heard of "eating the shell". In fact, I have been told if you eat the shell, you are more apt to become allergic to the peanut. Granted, my mother could have been lying, but I believed her way back when.;)

If people eat those, I wish the idiots who came in my Blockbuster every night (16 years ago) strowing sunflower seeds on the carpet would have been a shell eater too. I never could catch who was doing it.

Wow! It sounds like you are really serious about roughage!!!

Wouldn't it hurt a little to chew?
(sometimes when i couldn't get a pumpkin seed to open i would eat it shell and all. It was a little gross but i've stopped now.)popcorn::
