Sad Note

I don't know if this is appropriate to post here, but I felt the connection which made me sad.

Late last week there was a work place shooting at the Jeep Plant in Toledo, Oh and the Supervisor who was one of the targets was a DVC member.

Being originally from just outside Toledo I watched with concern the news reports about the shooting as I have friends who work there. My initial relief in finding out I did not know the victim was quickly replaced by sadness for the family that lost a loved one. Then in this mornings paper I read where the man who died owned a time share at Disney. I immediately got the same feeling I had when I thought it was possible that someone I knew at the plant could have been involved.

I guess I never realized how much of a family DVC had become for me without even knowing it.

I don't really know why I am posting this other than it makes me feel better to share with other DVC members.

Oh, how sad! What a shock to find that he was part of our family at DVC! Condolences for his family--how awful for them that Dad went off to work, and this happened.

That's horrible news. My best friend was, for a short time a couple of years ago, a supervisor at that same location! Luckily, he transferred up to the Auburn Hills, MI facility.

I think what you're feeling is very understandable. I think the DVC is its own family. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Violence in the workplace is always such a horrible thing as you wonder what, if anything, could have been done to prevent such a tragedy. The fact that the victim was a DVC member brings it home to all of us...he was just a regular guy that loved to vacation (probably with his family) at what we consider a second home. It is truly sad and all I can hope is that the surviving family members will be able to use their DVC membership to aid in the healing process.

What a loss. Stories like this one make me value everyday with loved ones even more. Perhaps that's why our Disney trips are so special to me. It's just us being together, enjoying life and each other without the cares of work, school, house, and everything else that is of so little importance in the long run.

Obviously this is sad and our prayers go out to the family. I will point out that a "timeshare at Disney" does not necessarily mean DVC and likely means another timeshare unless they mentioned DVC directly.

I don't know of any other timshares Dean "ON" Disney property.

I read the news report that was posted and it sounds like this man knew the meaning of "spend time with your family..." It sounded like his family truly treasured him. I am not surprised he was a DVC member

To many people "at Disney" isn't the same as on Disney property. That was the point I was making. If you are on timeshare forums, the words Disney Timeshare are used generically and not necessarily reserved just for DVC.

As to what Dean said, I agree. I've mentioned to family/friends that we'll be "staying at our Disney timeshare" and they automatically ask "which one ?" We own at Vistana and also DVC. But to many non-saavy tourists (present company excluded) anywhere remotely "near" WDW is a Disney timeshare

It is truly sad, and sobering, to hear of such a tragedy. Wherever this family's "timeshare" was, it appears that they must have been "Disney lovers" to have invested in vacation property in the area, and that in itself creates a sort of "bond" with the DVC family. In the face of all the sadness, I do hope they can take comfort in memories of all the good times they must have had as a family, and share in the healing of laughter when they are ready to do so again.
